I actually watched this video for you Thomas that happened to lead me to Chris now. Been a fan of yours for over 12 years now when a friend of mine in drumline showed me a DvD you made teaching rudiment skills on the kit. Fantastic work.
I understand why he chose Lang for this. Not many drummers can play this complex drums and put out that clean double bass sound without triggers or samples. 10/10 Will watch again (and practice like a madman for a couple of hours).
Chris has a brilliant video on metric modulation that ALL musicians should watch, not just drummers. I'm not a percussionist in my primary loadout slot but damn it was enlightening and it will literally change the way you're viewing and hearing things, mostly because he gives you the most important bits of all - how to get back to the regular song AFTER you're in the groove. Lessons on getting OUT of trouble are at least 100x more valuable than lessons on how to get INTO it. If a teacher can get me to visualize basically in my molecules the *feeling* of something, then I will be able to perform it. If I can produce it at least once, then it's possible to make whatever it is I'm trying to internalize finally mine.
Exactly and the polyrhythms are ridiculous absolutely ridiculously insane!!!! To Masters at their craft.. no doubt my mind two of the best in the world...
Thanks for doing the reaction so quick. The full listen through followed by further examination is an interesting dynamic. It was also a trip seeing my comment in the intro. Keep up the great work.
love how you mention the clean singles on the high-hat by Thomas but don't mention the perfectly clean trading back and forth of quads on the bass drum. That shit blew my mind and youre all like "oh yeah clean high-hats, noice" it's okay it melted my brain too 😂 absolute kickass shirt btw!
It's awesome seeing two drummers seemlessly flow in, and out of that double bass section. Thomas is great, but Chris still holds the title for most consistent kicks. You can slightly hear Thomas' inconsistencies at certain parts, but he was excellent! 👍🤙
LMFAO! ... okay,, ..so the 3rd person who isn't in the room ..and the shocking glancing .. then introducing your names backwards... Kudos for making this one fun .. creative and I like that humour ! =) keep at it.. =)
If you couldn't see the feet, it would be hard to believe it's real. And it's really funny how TH-cam can take you on all sorts of crazy journeys. I like reactions to singing too, then was obsessed with the Pneuma-Tool video, then it lead me to this channel, now I know who Lang and Turner and Anika Nilles are and have lots of awesome stuff to listen to. THANKS!
Chris and Thomas pure power and intensity Love drum duets One of my all time favorites are Terry Bozzio and Chad Wackerman both former Zappa drummers especially when they play Zappa's infamous (Black Page) Love to see more videos like this Amazing 😍😍 musicality
@@AndrewRooneyDrums thank you really, your channel is killer and It’s opened me up to so many talented drummers I would have never known about. Also you were great in Die hard.
During the so called "surgical" section, the stack hits are split in places, which to me adds a whole new level of complexity to that section, As if it needed it anyways lol.
Hey man. Great vid again. I don’t ever post or comment but love all the drummers you choose and make videos for. I would just like to throw a drummer out there for a band called “Barn.” You should check him out, one video you could check out is Predatory Live, by Barn. He’s an amazing young drummer. Though if you did make a video at all in the future on this lad, you’ll have no choice but to compliment on the whole band. Thanks
Hey Andrew, I've recently discovered Mathias Biehl. He has a small TH-cam channel and a great cover of "Haken - Messiah Complex". He also has several Dream Theater covers, but I thought you may enjoy Haken musically. Would be a great intro of the band to your channel and I'd love to see your and your viewers' reaction.
How about something completely different... let’s say the live version of “Smile and Wave” by the Screaming Headless Torsos. Absolutely AMAZING percussion work.... And the band is crazy good...
Not sure how I missed this one, but how would you pick? They are both fantastic. I think Thomas Lang is a bit more flexible as far as playing different styles of music. Only saying that cause I've never heard Chris step out of playing metal. Both of them are amazing.
I know it's off the subject of the reviewed track, but I thought you'd really like this short video of Neil Peart talking about his gear setup... th-cam.com/video/EJqxiWmH76E/w-d-xo.html

i'd rather have play thomas something more dynamic. this is hard to play no doubt but thomas could bring so much more to the table. just in the kick dynamics alone
Thanks Andrew! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Sir!
Thanks for being amazing.

You’re a humble master Thomas! (Chris ain’t too shabby either!)
You guys are sick !!
Hey! Thanks for reviewing and I’m glad you liked the track :) I’m ALWAYS stoked to talk drums, so count me in :)
That'd be amazing bro!
Can you hit me at andrewrooneydrums@gmail.com if you get a minute?
We'll get it rolling.
Thanks again for the inspiration Chris
C'mon Chris this isn't even fair bro, a lot of other metal drum videos will be kinda boring now! So freakin good!
Very inspiring, love from Scotland dude! 🤘🖤🤘
@ChrisOAA how can we best support the album now that the indiegogo campaign is over?
Really, we need an 20 min long ensemble with Virgil Donati, Matt Garstka and Thomas (again).
What Thomas says at the end is awesome and enlightening as to how difficult this was. He did 9 takes, and he liked the 7th one the best.
Yup! If it’s hard for Thomas... it’s hard
In the description of the original video it states that Chris did 5 takes and Thomas did 7.
@@the6ig6adwolf it says it was their 5th and 7th attempt. Did not say anything about how many they actually did.
Love that it feels like a pseudo-drum battle but the switching is so complementary to each other. Such a unique feel to a drum video.
Glad you dug it!

I backed Chris' Indiegogo solo album and it was money well spent. Everyone should back Chris...and subscribe to Andrew's channel too!
Thanks Benny!
It's as if When Neil Peart passed - all his cumulative skill was transferred upon the next generation - and they all levelled up.
Nice sentiment but the new generation has been leveled up for years. Dudes like Neil walked so dudes like Chris could run.
The next generation is terrifying LOL
That Flight of the Conchords Tee though ;)
