"Least" Bell's Vireo

A male perched and singing. "Least" Bells Vireo (Vireo bellii pusillus) was formerly abundant in the riparian woodlands of California's Central Valley and low elevation riparian streams in southern California and northern Baja, Mexico. It was one of California's most abundant birds in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but was reduced to just 300 pairs by 1986. The decline was driven by the separate and combined effects of habitat loss and brood parasitism by the exotic brown-headed cowbird (Molothrus ater). It was listed as an endangered species by the state of California in 1980 and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1986. A shy and secretive bird, Bell's vireo (Vireo bellii) is more often heard than seen. While the plumage of this small songbird varies with location, it is generally described as being rather drab in colour. There is little difference between the male and female Bell’s vireo, with the plumage on the upperparts ranging form dull grey to green, and the underparts from white to yellow.

There’s a group of Least Bell's Vireo that come to my outdoor water fountain and bathed and drink water in it , at first sight they stood out from the rest with there yellow stomach and grey wings and appears bit larger than the others , didn’t know what species they where until I recently read a article about them almost going extinct
