I first received the XL blocks. I loved them so much that I asked for (and received) the pan set and 24 set pencils for my birthday . They are great when out and about sketching. For the pencils, I prefer to simply take the colour off the pencil with a wet brush rather than drawing/laying down the colour on the paper then adding water. I have also scribble onto a porcelain palette with the pencils and mixing there. The XL blocks need frequent re-wetting, but simply dipping the brush in water first is enough.
@@Kyarartist it does. Something I tried just last night: I got a clear plastic cutting mat (very thin) from Dollar Tree. One side is very smooth and the other has a very slight tooth/roughness. I scribbled on the slightly rough side with the pencil a few Colin's. I added water and it transformed into the smoothest light wash, it was amazing. My brush simply drank up the wet pigment off the surface. It worked even better than on my porcelain palette. Bonus, I can cut a piece of this and put in my pencil tin for an on the go mixing area. I haven't tried it with my Derwent Inktense blocks yet, but a confident it will work well.
Oh I love these for landscapes ❤
Those colours would be good for urban sketching/painting ❤🖌
They really would, I'm hoping to use them as such when I go on my next holiday

I may have to get myself some XL Blocks to test out for myself

Lovely colours. I prefer bright bold colours, yes I am trying to be good but so many sales or new items are tempting me lately.
Go for it, I have the pencils, I really like the colors
Sales are far too tempting! There are so many amazing products out there.
And bright bold colours are absolutely lovely!
I don't know if those colors have some sort of shimmer when they dry, if the have graphite that would be something to expect.
There's a little of that graphite shine when the pencils are first put down, or you don't add water at all, but once wet it definitely goes away.
The XL blocks tend to keep more of the shine.
