He blew the radiator, something that could have been very easily avoided by checking the engine temperature gauge. The rule of thumb for the W140 is 90 degree Celsius is the optimal, if you see 100 try to cool the engine (shut off A/C and relax on the gas pedal) , if you see 110 pull over immediately and 120 you're going to blow the radiator.

Guess it is a factory requirement to force to rev up the engine right after you started it... and reading the other comments, this whole thing was about to kill this car... and now the uploader is happy as we get annoyed and commenting LOL
Not using the turn signal, not checking the temperature gauge especially when driving at high speeds/load... Head gasket is most likely gone at +130°C water temp, head and oil temp was most likely even higher.

IT was toast already and he knew. He has started enough Mercedes diesels to know this engine was doomed. I think he performed the task at hand perfectly! Blow the motor!
Why revving it high before it has oil pressure, not to mention before the oil has reached the camshafts, the piston squirters and all bearings of the crankshaft? 🤦♂️ Just stupid people rev a 4-stroke engine above 3,000 rpm within the 1st 30 seconds after start! There is clunking noise from the beginning - you ignore it. 😵💫 You hear clearly when entering the highway it's not running right/"round" on all cylinders - you ignore it. 😵💫 The coolant temperature exeeds 100 °C - you ignore it. 😵💫 When the coolant temperature is at 120 °C you see the steam - and then it's the guild of the car? 🤦♂️🤮
The engine was already problematic from the factory, because the rear cylinders tended to overheat due to the routing of the water channels, and the cylinder walls also tended to break. If I remember correctly, experts also advised against revving the car higher than 4000 rpm over a longer period of time because of this problem. He also does everything right in this situation: he lets the car roll so that the airstream continues to cool it and he turns the ventilation up to the highest temperature. I strongly suspect that this video was intended to send the engine on its last journey.
@@Sha-Ayo It dissipates heat away from the engine, so it can help cool it down, but it was already too late in this case. Water was boiling in that engine.
Not sure what the armchair experts in the comments are moaning about really. Driving at that kind of speed you want to be spending most of your time looking ahead, not at the instrument cluster. The car was only genuinely overheating for 20 seconds or so before he noticed and started to scrub off speed, a few seconds later he turned the heater on to try and use the heater matrix to aid in cooling, then safely exited the autobahn and parked as soon as he could. Some of you are acting like he drove for several minutes at 200kph with the needle buried in the red and steam billowing out of the vents. Just stop.
I think the failure may have already occured prior to this video. It probably has a bad head gasket, which would help explain the trouble starting and the poor acceleration. Unfortunately the block may have cracked hence the steam. These aren't by any means quick in the first place, but the acceleration should be better. Most people prefer the 3L over this engine.
The 350 Turbodiesel is not a very durable engine, the longer stroke compared to the 3 liter version did not do it good. And the OM603 Turbo does have problems with cracked cylinder heads, plus a tendency to overheat if the cooling system is not 100%. That said, keeping an eye on the temperature gauge *and* the warning lights would be a good idea. By the way, the transmission in this thing is a 722.3 that is not electronically controlled. When it slams into gears, it's due to a faulty vacuum system.
yes, it was the biggest OM603 specially overbored for the W140 - it was a complete disaster, especially given the virtual indestructibility of the MB diesel lineup at the time...

@@Alessandro-nq3tm Keeps the water pump running and coolant circulating - assuming that these subsystems are working correctly, at least.
If you shut it off, the coolant stops and the engine can heat-soak, allowing the hottest parts to be damaged by the overheat.
Poor S-Class…I wonder for what reason you push the old lady so hard, it was clear that something was wrong from the beginning on.
Imagine giving your car to someone and they blow it up on the Autobahn cause they don’t check gauges as they’re driving, lol.
Fly high neglected engine
the three warning lights at the start were a dead giveaway
6:02 at least he cooled the turbo, which may not even have been working
Bro made sure the engine heated enough before he decides to shut it down
298000km and she's gone. Unhealthy to start with and not checking gauges, not putting on the heating (if I see correctly), etc. Ouch!
The fact fact that he did not shut off the the engine immediately drove me nuts
the w140 is my dream car, sad to see it in such condition
Nekem is! És már a garázsomban is van.
Kívánom, hogy minnél hamarább meglegyen neked is! A legszeb S-classe.
It hurts to see this W140 not taken care of. From the start, the engine sound was way off, even after 290,000km, with proper maintenance should be as strong as an OM617.
Már az elején világított a hibajelzés...
This cannot be called a failure. This is violence)
this man broke the unbreakable
He blew the radiator, something that could have been very easily avoided by checking the engine temperature gauge. The rule of thumb for the W140 is 90 degree Celsius is the optimal, if you see 100 try to cool the engine (shut off A/C and relax on the gas pedal) , if you see 110 pull over immediately and 120 you're going to blow the radiator.
You lost my subscription today. You are not a car guy, you are just a kid that want to blast on the autobahn and thats it. You had the low coolant light, you had the temperature rising and you didnt care. I hope nobody else shares a car with you.
There was no engine failure, you deliberately destroyed the engine. Correct your title.
MERCEDES-BENZ E 220 2001 DİESEL.🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
yeah it's so weird and unexpected to see it overheating..!! redlining an old diesel at 4.5k rpm for long
Guess it is a factory requirement to force to rev up the engine right after you started it... and reading the other comments, this whole thing was about to kill this car... and now the uploader is happy as we get annoyed and commenting LOL
Not using the turn signal, not checking the temperature gauge especially when driving at high speeds/load...
Head gasket is most likely gone at +130°C water temp, head and oil temp was most likely even higher.
whos driving? and why no seat belt? whats with the weird 2:03 ive never seen much annoying thing in under 3 mins. dislike
1:38 bro didnt even signals when exiting the round about or any other round abouts , poor truck! throwing hands at this point, bro actualy wore hand gloves . im so cringing
That 3.5 diesel om603 engine has a problems with overheating
Did Coolant tank cracked open ? which is possible by old car s
The temp dail shows 100 degrees already hiting 120kmh, so at that very moment to step up max speed considering engine seizure, is a bit crazy....
2:53 297000 km 🎉🎉🎉🎉
IT was toast already and he knew. He has started enough Mercedes diesels to know this engine was doomed. I think he performed the task at hand perfectly! Blow the motor!
lmfao you got mad at the seatbelt 1:05 🤣🤣🤣
Why revving it high before it has oil pressure, not to mention before the oil has reached the camshafts, the piston squirters and all bearings of the crankshaft? 🤦♂️
Just stupid people rev a 4-stroke engine above 3,000 rpm within the 1st 30 seconds after start!
There is clunking noise from the beginning - you ignore it. 😵💫
You hear clearly when entering the highway it's not running right/"round" on all cylinders - you ignore it. 😵💫
The coolant temperature exeeds 100 °C - you ignore it. 😵💫
When the coolant temperature is at 120 °C you see the steam - and then it's the guild of the car? 🤦♂️🤮
I had a 1983 300D that was way faster at accelerating than this.
Clearly this engine was not in order from the begining.
No way that thing passed TUV
Good reaction, turning on the heater and pulling over quickly.
Why turning on the heater?
@@Sha-AyoBecause it gets away plenty of heat from engine
@@Sha-Ayo to try cooling the colant, but i think it doesen't have much effect

350 turbodoesel Head Gasket a big classic failure
Not sure what the armchair experts in the comments are moaning about really.
Driving at that kind of speed you want to be spending most of your time looking ahead, not at the instrument cluster.
The car was only genuinely overheating for 20 seconds or so before he noticed and started to scrub off speed, a few seconds later he turned the heater on to try and use the heater matrix to aid in cooling, then safely exited the autobahn and parked as soon as he could.
Some of you are acting like he drove for several minutes at 200kph with the needle buried in the red and steam billowing out of the vents. Just stop.
Under no circumstances should temperature exceed 90C while driving highway speeds. It was possible to catch that earlier on.
Hallo Topspeeder.
"Mercedes W140 S350 Turbodiesel *ENINGE FAILURE*" Enigne failure :D You should fix it :)
Engine failure
@@dominiqueroudier9401 Yeah I know :)

The fact is they taking home after the damage 🧿
I feel like he did this on purpose for clicks.
As far as I remember the 3.5L diesel in the W140 and W126 was the only crappy mercedes diesel during that time
yes, it was the biggest OM603 specially overbored for the W140 - it was a complete disaster, especially given the virtual indestructibility of the MB diesel lineup at the time...
I like the way the engine was pushed gently to top speed.
2:55 The car has reached its 297,000 km.
er hat sich einfach nicht angeschnalt
What a driving. 100m of emergency lane just to weave in an empty motorway 😂. And then crawling to a mere 190 downhill. 80 hp left with almost all dashboard lights on. Nice write off.
The engine literally fried the moment the light came on, I would have turned off the engine. This repair must cost a lot.
The most important thing is the driver had a glove. It is a musthave nowadays like hawk tuah.
At last on average drove cars over 200kmh over 200.000km without a problem is crazy
Would you like replace engine. And Start new 1000hp IS project ?
You noticed straight away that the engine was running poorly, but you didn't care.
You had the warning light on the dashboard since you started driving, if I remember correctly those lights are warning lights
And you heat 180+ km/h with dead engine 😂
This one was a complete failure and honesty it was sad to watch. It didn't deserve such treatment.
