It's okay if you don;t understand the proofs as to why things are or why certain statistical/econometric methods do the things they do. For the majority of applied work in the actual workplace, you don't need to know the maths and proofs behind these things, you just need to know how to check if an assumption holds or is violated, and then know the solution to deal with it. If you don't have time to apply the solution you just note the limitation in the work. Remember, executives and leaders don't really know or care about the technical aspects, they just want to see the results and the finished product.
