It’s funny because I’ve been trying to decide between Colombia and Peru for the last year and I saw one little pic of Guatemala and booked my ticket next day 😂 - very excited and always great to see black women solo travel. I’ll definitely have to look into the ATV ride
South America is very different then central America. Much more diversity in things to do and see. I found peru to be simply amazing and pretty unique. It was a very different landscape then anywhere. Very good food and I found it inexpensive and good value. Cartagena Colombia is a wonderful long weekend spot. Believe it or not but the people of colombia are super nice and helpful. I absolutely loved it. Santa Marta, minca, solonto were pretty cool. Medellin was pretty cool but a little seedy and you had to be more careful of pickpockets and bag snachers. Bogota, I wouldn't bother, as it's bad with crime right now. If you want a party and to salsa for a weekend, cartagena. I saw many black Americans there. A lady next to me on the plane home explained it was to explore African history plus it is nice. Peru is somewhere you go for a more long adventure. It's 13 times the size of florida. Flights in country are cheap and often the easiest way to get around. Busses are the best in the world. Get ready for native American culture and history to go along with breathtaking scenery. The people are also very nice and helpful. If you want more specific info on where to go and what to do, I can help. Ecuador was another favorite of mine. Banos de Santa Agua was one of my favorite towns ever. So much adventure and eco tourism for very affordable prices. Enjoy wherever you go ladies!
Hi there, I usually don't comment on TH-cam videos but after watching yours end to end I felt compelled to write a comment to let you know how much I appreciated your perspective of a solo traveler in Guatemala as well as how proud of my Country you made me feel while listening first hand from your experience travelling on your own and learning about the culture, the people and overall the country as a whole. As a Guatemalan national leaving abroad I felt so proud of hearing of such a positive journey you had there and hope you can go back soon for an extended stay in the country of the eternal spring, kind people and beautiful colors. With love from a Guatemalan.
I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. To this day, Guatemala is my favorite country I’ve visited. I would love to go back for a longer stay, especially to spend time in the community learning and connecting w the locals. It was beautiful, from the people, the food, culture, nature, etc. Thank you for the love. Much love to you and the amazing people of your home country 🇬🇹
Anita, thank you for taking the time to share your experience in Guatemala! I just love your personality and how you appreciate the world around you. Remain blessed.
You are a very beautiful and wonderful girl.. Thank you for finding beauty on our soil. You are always welcome in Guatemala and am sure with your attributes you had lots of friends behind!
I appreciate your review so much more than any of these other videos. It feels honest and not pretentious like a lot of these other…um… you know lol. Also, you sharing your unique and candid experiences helps fellow explorers. Thank you
Wow, I was looking for a Guatemala travel vlog and this delivered x100! Love your style, how informative and authentic you are, and your evident appreciation for the place. Thanks for taking the time to share so much 😊❤
Oh my T-Mobile didn’t work right initially arriving in Gua so had to wait a few hours for my phone to calibrate or something to make calls. So be prepared maybe hopefully won’t happen to you.
I am currently solo traveling in Colombia and I’ve been thinking of going to Peru next, but now it might just be Guatemala! Thank you for this video. New sub and fellow solo traveler. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. 💕💕
Hey I contacted SiMoon Tours and they have 5 different ATV tours. Can you please tell me which one you did ? I would greatly appreciate it. I’m going next week. Thanks 🙏🏽❤️
Because I was solo they put me on a different tour but I think the actual one I did was this one below. I would look through their listings on TripAdvisor and view the itinerary to determine the one you want to do! www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g295366-d15102561-Antigua_Sky_High_Adventure-Antigua_Sacatepequez_Department.html
I’ve been to Guatemala 5 times and there was an earthquake every time. My Guatemalan friend even asked me to always put the mirror down since there are earthquakes so regularly.
Thank you for watching! Just go to their website guatego.com and you can enter your pickup and drop off location details. They communicate via email and WhatsApp.
Thank you for going to my birth country. I'm always happy to see Americans experience my culture. About immigration I went to celebrate my parents 51st anniversary in March and also got stop in Immigration and I was born there so believe me it wasn't racial. Just an FYI I think you would have enjoyed going to Tilkal, Livingston and Puerto Barrios that would just to added to your total experience. One last thing you have a super dope vibe so your welcomed back in Guatemala anytime you want 😊.
Thank you so much for your kindness and sharing your insight. Guatemala has my heart forever. Still the best country I've visited so far! I will definitely look into those other areas as well.
Definitely the lake!!! It’s just absolutely breathtaking and peaceful, Antigua is more city, historical, colonial vibes so just depends on what you like. Both are beautiful.
Make sure you know how you’re getting from the airport to the lake because it’s even further away from the airport than Antigua is. GuateGo should have some options. Thank you so much for watching, I appreciate your feedback! Lmk if you have any other questions.
Hi, the Airbnb was really nice w great views and it was no more than a 15min walk from everything I did in Antigua but it’s not right in the middle of everything either. I did fine w/o a car or uber service in Antigua.
One of the Safest in Guatemala. There are cameras EVERYWHERE and they are tough on crime. Guatemala City is another story. However we didn’t have any problems. The locals say there is a lot of theft in the city.
My experience was great! No weird stares or anything like that. Everyone I met was super friendly. It's the best country I've ever visited to this day.
hi anita! thank you so much for sharing your experience in guatemala. i very much appreciate how you go about traveling and submerging yourself into the culture that you are surrounded with! as a fellow black female solo traveler, you have made me feel a lot more confident about diving into central america solo! i loved seeing that you had such a beautiful and welcoming experience. i have not yet touched central or south america and this video was helpful! one question for you, if you don't mind? did you take a shuttle from lake atitlan straight to guatemala city airport? did you use guatego for that, too? how long did this take? thank you! the only thing holding me back from booking is the traveling logistics once i hit the ground. thank you in advance and happy holidays! :)
Hi, lovely! Thank you so much for watching Guatemala City Airport which was about 2-3hrs. I went to Lake Atitlan via a tour and the tour company was nice enough to provide me with a shuttle to Lake Atitlan. I simply asked and they made it work. The ride from Antigua to Lake Atitlan was about 4hrs. They had to pick me up at 6am. Hope this helps!
the fruit thing is the same in New Zealand 😂I live here and they don't like people bringing fresh fruit and vegetables into the country because it could introduce new pests and diseases to the wildlife here. It seems strange at first but you just have to declare that you have it, if you don't there can be a fine you have to pay. I think its probably good to check when you travel somewhere new if you can bring fresh food with you :)
Yes, we had about an hour to explore and each of the activities don't take too much time unless the lines are long. We went to a different restaurant right after so didn't need time to eat at Hobbitenango.
You shouldn't bring fruit or anything like that when entering a new country for agriculture reasons. Those dogs are meant to sniff those things out. We have them as well at our airports. :)
Thank you for watching! Right now I have just been filming on my iPhone 14 bc it’s the easier/affordable route but I’m sure it can be difficult to listen to for some. Do you have recommendations for when I do decide to upgrade?
Oh my T-Mobile didn’t work right initially arriving in Gua so had to wait a few hours for my phone to calibrate or something to make calls. So be prepared maybe hopefully won’t happen to you.
Hi! My cellphone plan provides coverage in Guatemala. I have T-Mobile. I did have to pay a few cents extra per minute for calls and internet when I wasn't on wifi, but it didn't break the bank.
@@anitaasworldd thank you I really appreciate you responding back so soon!! Also would you say traveling solo is a good choice or not? I’ve been there once and I traveled in private shuttle but I’m considering doing it differently this time.

Hi Anita! Once question - how did Antigua feel roaming around? I'm thinking of going solo as well. Did you feel safe etc.?

I want to go there I am told it’s very far away and I think there is a boat ride needed to.
Hello! Did you exchange currency, if so. How much do you recommend for Lake Atitlan & Antigua
I did not but I wish I did because most of the local vendors only accept cash. I would check the current exchange rate and go from there.
