Great video. I prefer the linear supplies as they are more repairable by the ham end user. In the past I had an Astron linear supply fail and I called the factory and they helped me troubleshoot my unit. Turned out to be a failed bridge rectifier. After that it was an easy fix on my part. I have used Astron supplies since the early 1980's. They support their products.
I have several Astron power supplies. I have a RS-50M I purchased new from the Portland HRO store in 1990, it has been in continuous use ever since. I have not had a single failure or the supply showing any signs that the caps may need replacing.

I have several and they all around 20 years old or older. RS70-M RS-50A and more. I have fixed a few over the years and just basic problems . like solder joint break on buss bar on 50 and 70 amp ones . Just the weight and moving them around can have that happen. And power surge problem from mains. Usually the MOV inside burns up takes out fuse . And broken fuse holders. Be careful with the big ones. Sometimes a 723 reg ic goes bad. usually from a line surge. or poor grounding. RF getting into shack and supply. and with the linear supplies the pass transistors have postave voltage on them. Watch hitting outher metal . I just has a RS 35M come in for repair. The coax fell off dest onto heatsink and sparked onto the 2N3771 transistor blowing the fuse and the rectifier inside. Also I had to replace transistor because a hole was blown threw when it arcked over. it tested good but had a hole blown threw the case. They make 3D printed covers for them. printables and outher have the 3D files . I have a repeater cite with a 50 amp Astron supply with battery hook up built in. 20 years running. never failed. Has AGM telcomm 100 AH batteries (3) . The battery only last about 3 years or so. 200 watt VHF and UHF linked system on that supply . Astron is great stuff made in USA and they have parts if you need them . The 240V model will run 50 and 60 HZ . Used all over the world ! HRO is best place to buy them . great factory tour ! 73
I have 3 astron supply Fred repair one of my supply I going have Fred go thru my old astron 35 amp have him install new parts replaced the capacitor because they are old kc6nfv
I called Astron about an Out of Warranty power supply....we talked, they sent me two power transistors which I installed but it didn't fix the problem.....so I sent it in and they needed to replace something else and they didn't charge me for repairs or shipping back....Who does that....
What a Cool American Made Power Supply!
Have an Astron RS-50M,, RS-50A, RM-35M, and numerous RS-12 units. Thanks for the interview!

Get them now because once trumps tariffs go into effect, they will be so expensive that no one will be able to afford them.
