    Makes my heart glad to see the 'old arts' have not been forgotten. I did this kind of stuff when I was 10 and that was 60yrs ago. We did have access to the glues back then so we just made the bands and pocket out of one piece of inner tube.

      That is so awesome! I'm glad I used to do all this kind of stuff growing up. Cheers mate! :)

      Yeh, that’s exactly what I just wrote, no need for resin and the pocket cut as one piece in the rubber.

      back in those days it was actually very risky to roam around with one. only "truant" had slingshots.

    Thanks. We used to hack away at the local park to get that slight asymmetric shape to rest that half way up the index finger to give a firmer grip and prevent twist on firing.

    Thank you, this would be great for ground baiting!
    I'd probably need a slightly different pouch, however.
    Nice work. XxX

    • @MyNameIsLukey
      @MyNameIsLukey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I think it would suit that perfectly, a bigger cupped pouch should scatter some bait really nicely! Thank you! :)

    Use 3 thinner strands of rubber and braid them together and you'll get more power out of it.
    Well done mate! Brilliant.

      Now that is a super cool suggestion! I think I will have to do that, Thanks mate!! :)

      Instead of cutting the tube into long bands cut them the other way... into rings. Start with thicker ones and then progressively smaller ones. Link them like you would any rubber band with a catchers glove palm leather for the cradle. How we made them in the 70s and 80s and went hunting with them. Careful....they ARE deadly

    Hi Luke,
    Nice project!
    In addition to your slingshot, I would think about a forearm support to relief your wrist. Never thought about yet?
    I had some smaller version of a slingshot about 40+ years ago.
    Nowadays in Germany it's like the Netherlands: forbidden for some decades.
    Wouldn't stop me from building one, it's just the game "Don't get caught". 😉
    Well, I do medieval reenactment. Onsite of such gathering (mostly inmidst nature) it even may be legal.
    BTW: Inspired by that hobby, I built my own English Longbow (like those found onbord the "Mary Rose"). Has some decent 60 pound. 🏹🎯
    Maybe a nice further wood project of yours... 😉

    Carfull Luke those rings are light casting and can snap off and launch back at you, an eye bolt will take all manner of stress, wear goggles, the elastics can nail you in the eyeball👁 nice rig and lots of fun🎯

    To be able to add power and accuracy I'd recommend to get the rubber attachments a lot further down and closer to your hands (=shorten the limbs!)
    This way your projectile and sighting line will be a lot closer to your natural pointer finger sighting line and the shorter leverage above the handles pivot point is easier to hold steady.

    • @MyNameIsLukey
      @MyNameIsLukey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense! I will have to modify it just a bit. thanks for the suggestion mate! :)

  • @roberthopgood1894
    @roberthopgood1894 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If you used 1 long piece of the rubber and slide the pouch on it so the rubber goes behind the pouch
    You will have a stronger unit that the pouch will not tear from
    The pouch will not need to be as thick, either

    Luke, you didn't show where you electroplated the copper onto the steel. Or did you use copper paint?

    • @MyNameIsLukey
      @MyNameIsLukey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah yes! It was just a bit of spray paint, I did it before I installed the handle. :)

    Great exercise in mechanical energy storage. You could also look at a spring storage for a treadle or flywheel. Good work.

    nice slingshot, you may want to cut down/round the pouch corners. To add strength to the pouch where the rubber attaches Ive laid string around the edge of the duct tape between layers.. slapping yourself in the face when a pouch breaks is no fun!! Im on my 5th version of a sling shot for my 4 and 5yo grandsons because their hands are so small they cant get a good grip and cock their wrist. The last set of chained rubber bands, 3 links of 2 bands per link seems right but the pvc pipe frame/handle was still too big. The other day I found some orange tree cuttings with decent forks Im hoping will work

    If you taper the inner tube to the right shape it will give you a much faster projectile.

    The wooden handle didn’t need resin to be used just drill a hole slight smaller than the metal cut or chisel a couple barbs onto it and a bit of glue and tap it onto the metal. Re the rubber the inner tube could of been cut so the ‘pouch’ was included in the one piece of rubber.

    Don't laugh. Super Glue would stick your bands together. The stuff adheres to Rubber really good. I've repaired swim fins with the stuff.

    • @MyNameIsLukey
      @MyNameIsLukey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did think about using glue, as we have some super strong stuff, I was just a bit unsure so I went for the old thin rubber strip trick. But repairing swim fins with it is awesome! Thanks mate! :)

    Nice. Slingshots are illegal in holland now for 20 years or so. When it was forbidden you could turn it in and get a reward for it. Maybe still so.

  • @grahamh4960
    @grahamh4960 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Next step...SLINGBOW. To be used with caution. I am sure they are legal but best check. Very powerful Bows and xbows are legal in UK so don't see a problem. Check on laws for these. I have xbows much more powerful than a slingbow and they are legal. Check age restrictions.
