Thank you! great video. I removed the passenger fan only 8mm socket. Disconnected one of the small coolant hoses crossing the "pull out hole". Disconnected the dryer line going to the compressor. Then unhooked the lines on the compressor taking off the 13mm nut. I pulled the power steering hose back and bungied it out of the way. Disconnected the compressor clutch electrical connector. Then removed all three 10mm bolts starting from the bottom. I did everything from the top as I moved all the hoses out of the way to get to it easy. For the compressor bolts i used a ratcheting box wrench for the tops and a 3/8s ratchet with a 10mm socket for the bottom. Then twist the compressor to remove the bolts, remove the triangle plate, and pull it out pulley side first. Did it all from the top, no jack. Just clear the lines out of the way first as you should be replacing the dryer and orifice tube as well.
This totally worked for me. Saved a ton of time. I didn't take the triangular bracket off, but put a jack and wood block under the oil pan to slightly lift the engine. That gave me just barely enough room to pull the compressor out the hole. I didn't have to drain the radiator or take any coolant lines off, other than the tiny one from the plastic coolant tank. This is a far better solution than snaking the compressor along the front of the engine.
John Larrick. Glad it saved you time. I didn't have to drain cooling system either. One hose bent out of the way and one disconnected at the top ( the thin one ). Wooden block and jack is great idea ! Used that method before planty of times just not this time. Would probably save me extra time by not removing the bracket
All the videos I've seen today don't show a visual step by step on how to remove one of these bad boys... Guess I'll be making one tomorrow... Great video though my friend I'm going to be using every step that you used
There is a large hose in front of the bottom 2 bolts of the compressor on my 2000 sable with the duratec engine. Was there a hose in the way when you did this? I didnt see one when you were showing us the engine bay.
I Kinda Suck At Fortnite . On 24-26 seconds into video you can brifly see a large hose that I had to bent out of the way. May be that the hose you are describing
anton alexeev I have the same engine. That is a power steering hose. I'm talking about a hose down at the bottom in front of the bottom bolts of the compressor.
I Kinda Suck At Fortnite , honestly I do not remember, but I did not disconnect any power steering hoses that's for sure. I do remember that one of bottom bolt was kind pain to get to. I could have used Gear wrench and not socket on it.
I have 2003 sable and yes the hose was in way at bottom. Could see it but not get to it. Someone had to go from the top while I watched from under the car to tell them they were flush on the bolt. And had to be a particular ratchet and extension etc to work. Was a bitch
Yes, that is a coolant crossover hose you see at the bottom and yes. To one of the 2 bolts from the top, the one he was talking about in the video has to be gotten from the bottom.
This is exactly how me and my dad did it last night without disconnecting any hoses or anything. Only took out the one fan. And brought it out same way but top up. Was a bitch. But now the new one seems a hair fuckin thicker or something. Dunno if it's gonna go back in through that same gap
What a rip off. Because you know dealer will charge for that amount of time and I guarantee mechanic is not going to take that time to fix it because mechanic will do exactly what I have done and many people done
You saved me a lot of time and headache of thinking about draining the cooling system and removing all the other stuff. Thank you so much.

John Larrick you lifted the engine without removing any bolts?
You can get about 1/2" of lift without unbolting the motor mounts. It was just enough.
John Larrick perfect thanks man

I have a 2007 sable and the technician told me he can’t get the compressor out he have the car for a week
Any advice
Sorry for late reply. Just noticed you comment. Hopefully your tech got it done

The job calls for 6.3 hours to complete.
