+Hevian S my issues is with the whole "your animal" thing, surely your can't own a living thing. Do what burn it freeze it pierce holes in it, dosent matter it's your property. No hunt it kill it eat it but don't own it's whole life and existence that for me is the worst thing, possession, there is a natural way and branding isn't natural
+Camilla Johansson And ear tags can be removed. Excuse me... what do you think you can propose to offer a solution. And dont say nothing, beacause nothing results in theft with no leads.
how can you call it humane? these are animals not humans lol and BTW who gives a fuck they are animals they can take hot branding, people need to stop being pussies.
I think you need to chill out buddy and carry on with your own life. You've never lived on a farm in your life or been close to one I'm sure you know the best way of branding cattle lol. Just chill out and live your life and let these people do what they do, cow is more than capable of taking branding FYI. Bye.
A very clean process. No burnt hair or flesh like hot iron branding. Cow didn't seems to be in any stress. No open wound that would cause any kind of infection.
+Rdrake1413 haha yeah I hope you become in face with reality cause your God killed almost everyone in the whole world his own children. But yeah beg for his forgivness
With hot branding, a rancher actually causes a third degree burn which is very painful to recover from. A freeze brand destroys the color producing hair follicle and the hair grows back, just white. Mustangs in the US are freeze branded as well as many race horses.
Anyone who had ever had a cryo treatment at the dermatologist's office will tell you that it does not hurt. It's just a strange sensation. This is not torture, and it is not inhumane.
cryo treatments are usually done on things like skin tags which are jutting out of your body, this brand is being directly applied to the skin, this almost certainly hurts but is it as bad as hot branding probably not
Believe me I understood you, I'm just saying boiling is 212 degrees, red hot is close to 1000, if not over 1000. I was just being literal. No need for insults
That chap has a steady and firm hand......good work.....what a relief ......thinking about days long gone when Alfred Wight ak James Herriot still made his rounds in the greater Thirsk area... A big hello to all country people....and to all city slickers..:educate yourself before you write nonsense...
Helped with a lot of freeze branding of horses, Done right the horses hardly try to pull away! Hot branding they jump ,they kick and they have to heal. The freeze brand does not need to heal and the white hair is totally pronounced in 4 to six weeks. Horse hide is much thinner than cow hide. The taste and smell of burnt hair avails it's self r through memory to me even after 20 years
Gorgeous looking R2s yes? Very well looked after girls to be in that condition. Awesome to see caring farmers out there looking for better ways for the cows and workers to I'd them
Ear tagging punches a hole in their ear. Hot branding burns the hair and hide. this is the most humane way of marking cattle. It doesn't hurt. the cow just didn't like someone messing with her.
Camilla Johansson ear tagging is literally punching a hole through their ear. go and get a rook or tragus piercing and tell me that doesn’t hurt. freeze branding is literally just like putting an ice cube on your leg for a few seconds.
we try and calve them down somewhere between 2 1/2 and 3 years but its not an exact science. Milking is a bit tricky at first but they soon get used to it
Are there different marks left? Like can you visibly see the difference between this and a traditional brand? Because that would make identifying cattle so much easier if they look completely different.
I guess some folks haven't heard of the Farmfreund Cattle Immobilizer. Can be used on all livestock. Goes under the tail and a small electric pulse immobilizes the animal and they feel no pain and they don't jump around so injury to animal and people is eliminated.
its not a little tingle. That shit still hurts if you dont believe me sprinkle some salt on your arm and hold an ice cube against it for 30 seconds. no its not as bad as a hot brand but its still painful
It's better than having a tag ripped out of your ear and have your ear bleed isn't it?It's a shame our farm does ear tags though,we are interested in microchips though.
lasers would leave an open wound, this method does not so is much better for the cow and cheaper for the farmer as they don't have to pay for antibiotics if the brands get infected.
Just an idea, since laser's been used every where now days, from removing tattoos, to surgery, to dentistry etc... Also, if the cow would get a prior local painkiller shot so don't feel pain? How about that?
the reason they brand the cows is if someone steals the cows out of the field the people can take out the ear tags but u can't take of a brand so the police can return the cattle to the owner
learned something new! Why doesn't the man doing the branding label each numbered brand on top of the wooden handle with indelible marker, as this would remove all guesswork and avoid a possible pain in the ass (for the cow) correction? Thanks for sharing.
thefunkyfarmer Hope you are kidding me. Look in the rest of euro and you won't see a single diary cow freeze/fire branded. This is nothing but a sick way to do it.
+Marc Wersäll Google the thickness of animal hide. Out of interest, are you A vet? An Animal Health Expert? Agricultural Policy Maker? Also google Codes Of Conduct for the Agricultural Industry in Britain. You will see that we are the tightest regulated livestock industry in Europe, if not the world with regard to what we can and cannot legally do.
I understand the importance of this. But it does hurt, it's not just "a numbing sensation" I have held an empty glass beaker that *had* liquid nitrogen in it, a few seconds after I poured it off, and my fingertips felt like they were burning!!
People still do this to horses, become less common now because of microchips. It is still a necessary procedure in the dairy industry as what happens if a cow lost both of her tags? You would have no idea who she was, keeping records on cows in the dairy industry is vital for so many reasons, if you loose her tag number, especially in a big herd, it becomes a complete headache for the farmer/herds person. Medicine records especially.
I wonder if it would make sense to stick them with a little local anesthetic to take the edge off before this just for humanity's sake. Would probably get pretty expensive though.
Tagging cows ears is not branding. Its labeling what cow it is and where it belongs. Branding is Like a signature so if your cattle gets stolen or lost you can prove that it is your cow.
I meant to say what stunning heifers you have shows they are treated and well looked after at what age will you start milking them and is it hard to do at the start.
Aww. I miss the screeching and bawling and kicking and smoke and stench. Yes, I witnessed it. I have had skin tags taken off with liquid nitrogen and it does not hurt one bit.
+funkyfarmer I didn't get through all the comments, they got tedious. But can you explain the numbering system. I heard something about it and the eartag. Also, it looks like always right buttock, what do you do on cows that are white there? Cheers!
you can but ear tags aren‘t permanent and often can do more harm than good. they can be ripped out if a cow does something and a thief can rip it out to steal the cow. brands are much more humane and safer
Okay m, so I don't mean to be rude I I know somebody going to say something mean most likely but at 3:26 the man says "they used to do it with fire back in the old days" and it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way because many bra dings that I have gone to use fire branding for efficiently and I am sorry if you do this because of the types of cattle you have. And maybe the people I know use fire branding because of where I live but I believe there is nothing wrong with it and neither is freeze branding.. It's just when you say the old days you say it as if it was not very good that's all, the brandings I go to are very fast and we use fire because it's fast.
We would say 'in the old days' here in the UK because nobody in this country does it with fire anymore so it seems old fashioned. I don't think fire branding has been done in this country for 50 years. The only time we see it like that is on cowboy films
thefunkyfarmer In my home state of QLD, Australia, it is a legal requirement for cattle to be branded. Last week 176000 went through the abattoirs, and I would be surprised if anything but dairy culls were freeze branded.

Hello you faceless troll :-)
+Trio 3 Are you done crying?
I pray that God can forgive you for your evil thoughts
+Rdrake1413 haha yeah I hope you become in face with reality cause your God killed almost everyone in the whole world his own children. But yeah beg for his forgivness

Sheena Allen can you do it to your skin please. Tell me it doesn't hurt.
Lauryn Lechtenberg They don't understand what's happening, and it's an odd sensation. It would be strange if they weren't trying to get away.
Sheena Allen ever had a wart treated with nitrogen goodluck in saying it doesnt hurt after that treatment you idiotic american
i think this is way better then a boiling red hot iron branding
boiling is much much cooler temperature than they would brand cows with..
Can you not see how i put boiling red hot together theres no punctuation read it again please and it makes just a bit more sense in your little brain
Believe me I understood you, I'm just saying boiling is 212 degrees, red hot is close to 1000, if not over 1000.
I was just being literal.
No need for insults
Then you know what i meant. Trust i know the differences
Sorry
nothing like reading a bunch of comments from butthurt vegans about inhumane cow branding right after eating a two-pound steak.

no plans for electronic tagging at the moment. this works really well for us and like you said makes it easy to know their tag number
Just a thought but why doesn't he mark the handles with the numbers instead of having to guess
Yes that would be the logical thing to do
Gorgeous looking R2s yes? Very well looked after girls to be in that condition. Awesome to see caring farmers out there looking for better ways for the cows and workers to I'd them

thx god its not hot branding beacuse that is defenetly painfull
Luka Terbuc Actually could this cause frostbite since it freezes the hair on contact
that is awesome! i never knew you could freeze brand a cow
does branding hurt them?freezing AND burning?? i have heard no because of all the layors of skin they have
i dont think the cattle feel any pain with freeze branding, not so sure with hot iron branding
They dont move or anything so I can assume not but I didnt know
spongebobcrazy123
Get your eyesight checked. They were clearly in pain.
Tepadj
get YOUR eyes checked they would of squirmed in pain
spongebobcrazy123
And they did.
here in sweden, a tag in the ear is doin good, dis looks kina unnecassery
+Gustav Andersson we only do this to the dairy cows as it makes identification easier for things like when they are bulling. We also use eartags
+Gustav Andersson it doesn't hurt a cow or bull it just is a little uncomfortable like stinking a finger in wax
well here in America people are assholes and rip out the ear tags and steal your cattle so we brand them because you can't rip out a brand
and we use hot brands "like the old days"🙊
We just put tags on our cows on our farm
It's just a tingly feeling man says as cow screams
Are there different marks left? Like can you visibly see the difference between this and a traditional brand? Because that would make identifying cattle so much easier if they look completely different.
The sounds kinda sounded like the cow sound in minecraft
oh my god fuck off
Does it not hurt as much as regular branding
Jay Casey no
ThatDankDuck it wasn't a question
I guess some folks haven't heard of the Farmfreund Cattle Immobilizer. Can be used on all livestock. Goes under the tail and a small electric pulse immobilizes the animal and they feel no pain and they don't jump around so injury to animal and people is eliminated.
Yes thats about it
It's better than having it done by a very hot one
D Bee meanie
where
+D Bee youre an idiot
its not a little tingle.
Sometimes the tag can get ripped out by the cow rubbing or gettting in caught on a tree or a post
Thanks for the video, that was very interesting
_Because this doesn't hurt the cow or anything._
_smfh._
It doesn't seem like a painless process, is it?
21st century, no one invented a better process for branding?
Like, using laser or some thing else?
+szaki its the best option out there at the moment
lasers would leave an open wound, this method does not so is much better for the cow and cheaper for the farmer as they don't have to pay for antibiotics if the brands get infected.
Just an idea, since laser's been used every where now days, from removing tattoos, to surgery, to dentistry etc...
Also, if the cow would get a prior local painkiller shot so don't feel pain?
How about that?
+szaki yeah, cause let's spend 100 grand on narcotics to make the cattle feel better 😒
+szaki it's not that serious. They aren't amputating a damn leg
How am I here? from watching hagard garage to this what
Luis Sanchez I was watching q dogs getting branded so it makes since why I am here
Lol
Umm you clicked on the fucking video that's how
LMFAO same thing happen to me
Lol
the reason they brand the cows is if someone steals the cows out of the field the people can take out the ear tags but u can't take of a brand so the police can return the cattle to the owner
Nope it's about -78 degrees Celsius and that's the dry ice and not the liquid they are sitting in so the liquid would be warmer
If I find this guy, I WILL DO THE SAME TO HIS ASS
you wont your a kid behind a keyboard
What age are they when you freeze band them a year or so?
cheers
learned something new!
Why doesn't the man doing the branding label each numbered brand on top of the wooden handle with indelible marker, as this would remove all guesswork and avoid a possible pain in the ass (for the cow) correction?
Thanks for sharing.
+K2shadowfax i've no idea
So which is better freeze branding or the heat branding??
I would say freeze branding
Corleesha Taylor Fire branding is faster, and less painful.
Cran Tindle-may sure shoving a white hot piece of iron on a cows ass is less painful either way they are both inhumane
Phyllis Mervenne Lol, Agreed
+Green Pulsar except for the fact that cows have intensely thick hides unlike humans and it does no permanent damage other than the hide mark
why don't you paint it
wouldn't be permanent
pieter post they could use sharpies
thefunkyfarmer isn't this a little cruel??
pieter post don't you think if it rains then the paint or sharpy will come off.
PierceTheHorizon better than getting brands in a fire and that really hurt plus it doesn't hurt the cows it just feels unnatural to them.
Why u do that, how would u like it it I done that to u?
why so many brands for that one? is he in a fraternity?
Sure a tingling sensation
Why do they brand the cows if they already have ear tags for identification? ?
because you can't read an eartag from behind, and you can't read the freezebrand from in front. the eartag is mostly for government use.
If a cow has no brand, it’s easy to steal, ear tags can be removed, a brand can’t
So much easier to ear tag
That's ok for beef cattle but you need to freeze brand dairy cows so that you can identify them for a.I
thefunkyfarmer Hope you are kidding me. Look in the rest of euro and you won't see a single diary cow freeze/fire branded. This is nothing but a sick way to do it.
Marc Wersäll Lol ok I'll brand you lets see how you feel about it then.
Daniel Bargas and a lot quicker to brand with hot irons
I have been branded. Don't hurt much
Does it hurt them?
thats much better than doing the heat one
i saw the branding in Family Guy but this seems humane. dunno why about the dislikers not knowing about branding
2:29
cow: oh shit!
Geo Bob lololololo
does that last forever
Yes
good I just want to make sure those cows don't have to be uncomfortable more than once
morgan wood how vegan can you be
I'm not vegan I just care about animals
what the hell is your problem
do u like paint markers or something that doesnt hurt as much if u do it to the cows do it to your self
plenty people have done it to themselves, and paint doesn't stay on.
Is it painful?
I don't think so, they just get a numb bum
thefunkyfarmer Haha, I just realized that right after i posted my comment! XD
+Marc Wersäll Google the thickness of animal hide. Out of interest, are you A vet? An Animal Health Expert? Agricultural Policy Maker? Also google Codes Of Conduct for the Agricultural Industry in Britain. is that somerset
I understand the importance of this. But it does hurt, it's not just "a numbing sensation" I have held an empty glass beaker that *had* liquid nitrogen in it, a few seconds after I poured it off, and my fingertips felt like they were burning!!
maybe so but just remember that cow hide is much thicker than the skin on your fingers

Use heroin
Does that hurt them?
Gymnast Connor not as bad as hot branding

I think it would be much simpler for both parties to use a small bit of anesthetic..Although I can't tell you what to do.... :(
I meant to say what stunning heifers you have shows they are treated and well looked after at what age will you start milking them and is it hard to do at the start.
are you using dry ice??
yes
This seems a lot more human than hot branding.
humane*
How many cattle have you got?
Well it's better than heat branding. It's not excruciatingly painful
Aww.
I miss the screeching and bawling and kicking and smoke and stench.
Yes, I witnessed it.
I have had skin tags taken off with liquid nitrogen and it does not hurt one bit.
Look up the word:
Facetious.
Do you like sheep ?
+Tractorboy 135 they are ok
Cold branding is a lot less painful for the animal compared to hot branding.
id rather get heat burned for a few secs than cold burned for a dam minute
+funkyfarmer I didn't get through all the comments, they got tedious. But can you explain the numbering system. I heard something about it and the eartag. Also, it looks like always right buttock, what do you do on cows that are white there?
Cheers!
+thefunkyfamer spelled your handle wrong. Oops.
yes the number on the cow matches the number on the ear tag. We don't really have a problem with white cows
Poor cow🐮💕
It's better than branding then there burning the flesh, but I don't like it either 💕🐮🐄
I like dis video
Bless the humane people! :D
cant you tag there ears?
The numbers are put on the rump so you can read them from far away. That wouldnt work on their ears
thefunkyfarmer oooh makes sense
you can but ear tags aren‘t permanent and often can do more harm than good. they can be ripped out if a cow does something and a thief can rip it out to steal the cow. brands are much more humane and safer
Who steals cows vegans?
Nice
So this is less cruel than heat branding ? 😨
it's like an ice cube on your hand for a good 20 seconds. much less damaging than heat branding which scars the animal and can possibly get infected
+Alissa The Editor yes, it is much less cruel
+Bauppi ty guys 👌🏾 for answering
***** Sadly, ear tagging isnt a secure method. just clip the tag off and it can be claimed by someone else, cant clip off a brand now can you?
You sound like the funky prepper
Yes, these are much, much more humane than hot branding.
why are you doing this? because you don't use the numbers, or do you?
so that we can easily identify them when they are in a field
ah!, thanks for letting me know!
thefunkyfarmer
can't you easily identify them with their ear tag?
Not if they are in the field you have to get up close to them
Freeze brand better than burning painful
wow without burn
Okay m, so I don't mean to be rude I I know somebody going to say something mean most likely but at 3:26 the man says "they used to do it with fire back in the old days" and it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way because many bra dings that I have gone to use fire branding for efficiently and I am sorry if you do this because of the types of cattle you have. How about a tag in it ear
the likes and dislikes are the same lol
why dont u brand with fire? its much better
Apparently much more painful
A. K. It's a lot more painful
the cows are filling bad but when we try on a cow there fill yhe heat
there was discomfort, but way less pain the a hot iron , but gotta tag em som how
Yo tanta fcked up why can't you just put a light chain on them with the number?
let's play find the vegan safe and fun for the family
iam gonna do this with my chickens
Have You Ever Sprayed Someone W/ Keyboard Cleaner?
I'm thinking about the cow that comes after 99
I american we use the ear tag system, and it seems like branding cows that way is a waste of time and painful full for the cow. Because I know I would not be very happy if someone puts a freezing cold rod on my butt
Jacob Neiman They're not very happy getting the kids killed and eaten either lmao
Poor cow does not even get chance to move..
The cow barely noticed and went off to spend it's day happy in a meadow. Freeze branding is not very painful and just makes fur grow back a different colour. At most the cow felt a bit annoyed.
Se mueven mucho, habría que inmovilizar más, o de lo contrario poner un tranquilizante
why don't you put tags!!!
That's horrible, y'all should just put a sticker on them.
I feel bad for those cows
this is so mean to the cow 🐮!!😭
not enough! 70 - 80 milking plus followers
4:31 of this video..the cow screams NO!!!!!!!!!..I bet this shit hurts like crazy..
you have no clue what the cow was saying, and you think it hurts, because you want it to, so you can complain about it.
I suppose they use calf tables to😂😂😂
I just feel bad for the last cow, he has the largest number meaning more burn......
C0n4n Tr4n every cow would have the last 3 numbers off her tag branded on
Woo funny
could've used sharpie on the cows.
