Thanks for this guide Andrew. I used it as a very close template for my conversion but have also added a C20 motor. It's now my best RC plane by far, with the ability for long slow glides at one trim setting, and fast flight at another. A few things that did take me a while to get right before it was controllable (explanations for the benefit of your other viewers): - The pitcherons need a lot more travel for elevator input than for aileron, I'd suggest 3:1 or more ratio between them, otherwise it's too sensitive to roll. - The aileron control needs 50% or more differential (the trailing edge of the wing moves up more than the opposite wing moves down). This is equivalent to mixing in up elevator. - To be able to achieve a loop, I had to have the leading edge of the wings able to pitch up a very large amount, so with the servos centred my wings start pitched up and I also have differential on the elevator to stop them pitching down by as much. It might have been possible to instead fit the tail in the opposite orientation, but mine's glued in now and I don't want to risk damaging it to try.
It's such a versatile little glider. Good info about the extra elevator required in pitchers mode. Mine is now conventional acro sloper configuration now with ailerons, elevator and rudder. Not tested like this yet
I love how universal Lidl is now, that I can say "Ah, I see you've been to the middle aisle before!" and it's approving nods all around! From the UK. And great vid!
Nice one Andrew. You did a proper job than I did last year. The wings are wiggly from the beginning. It flies though but never stable. Still have a new one in the box from last year. So I will give it a try.
Really nice mod. These sell out so fast now that I have missed out on them both times they went on sale here but a friend converted one to a twin engine diff thrust model. There are so many things that you can do with these
In some countries Lidl have an online purchase option so it might be possible to obtain them that way. There are also a number of Facebook groups which might have members willing to sell a surplus one
Thanks Robert. I have never tried piton setup before, seems to work well

Robert yesterday I bought glider for remote conversion in LIDL Bežigrad. They were on sale last week... Do you know of any good places for soap soaring, I am based in Trebnje region?
Brilliant! I had tried to get one shipped from Germany but as it turns out they couldn’t. We have a similar glider in the USA but bigger. I and my father in law have put some small edf’s in them, lots of fun. We are getting some Lidl stores here now and will have to look for one of these here. Nice work, love SpeedsterDen’s stuff and had seen his last year as well.
Bought six of those recently. They make for very cool conversion projects together with kids. Next project: Put a little motor on each pitcheroned wing and enable differential thrust. This will propably create one mad flat spinning machine ;-)
Nice neat build, i think i need to keep a eye the lidls leaflettes for when they have them on offer again, i normally fly quads so ive got various bits of radio gear and batteries laying around my bench, could be a cheap summer project. Great vid. All the best matey.
Andrew, LIDL stock them for a few days at the beginning of our summer and that's it. The concept of LIDL is that they stock the special items once a year and the items arrive every Thursday and Sunday. Their hot glue sticks are really good.
You'll have great fun with the glider. Pitcherons enable crazy fast roll rates when everythings maxed out. It'll slope in 5 mph to 35 mph winds (when 110g of ballast is added). My version differs from Soren and your approach in that the carbon rod is embedded in the wing by boring a hole through the centre section and then into both wing halves. The panels are retained with R clips so easy to break down for transport. The centre section and horizontal stab are not even glued in so it'll pack away in the box it came in
Great mod. Love it! Always wondered how to make pivoting wings. This a nice simple design mod. 🙏♥ BTW: "(pivoting wings)" should be part of video title.
very similar but smaller (19" wing span) I modified with 2.4ghz 3 channel helicopter guts. 7 x 20 mm motors in short lengths of carbon fiber arrow tubing provide thrust and differential steering, a 6 x 12 mm motor on the boom near the tail providing up/down "elevator". it flies a LOT like a normal 3ch plane, more so than most might think. it cost under 25 bucks
Do you have a qx7 radio setup guide for Wingerons? I'm having a tough time getting my receiver to make the correct commands. I can get the receiver bound, but can't get it to control the servos. Can I change the channel settings without having to rebind the receiver? Thanks in advance.

@@AndrewNewton thank you Andrew. I recently got a slightly smaller one of these 30 inch wingspan and 34 inch fuse on Amazon. Have you seen one this size? Seems identical just smaller? Also the cg on it is about 75% back from the leading edge which I'm amazed it seems to glide well with this so, so I was thinking of keeping it there for my conversion? I want to go 2 channel so either bank and yank tailless or pitcheron can't decide 😜 loved the way the pitcheron conversion is so clean and efficient also the way you did the wings as a whole rather than splitting them first is brilliant.

Ooh canard will be interesting
We have a LIDL in my town, but we don't have these cool gliders in here. Cool mod!
They are only stoked once a year, this years came in Thurs 23rd May
Hello Andrew, how wide is the central part of the wing in cm ? Thx
Ben.
16cm root chord
Very cool Andrew.
Wow!!! Way cool!!!!
Looks very good so far.
It flies better than my camera can record

Very nicely done
LIDL supermarket UK ... then it was a german lidl product I guess ... which I missed - nice upgrade
I built one myself the Speedsterden methode and it flies great.
What happens if the pivot line is flush against a fuselage?
As long as it's not rubbing or obstructed it should be same

What keeps the wings from coming off just the friction and the control rods?

I like the idea of having the full wing as aileron!

And elevator.
very cool, i missed them when they came to the uk, so may be next time

A pleasure to watch
And no motors!

It is a bit confusing. Left leading edge down to roll left, both leading edges up to pitch up. It rolls much faster than it loops.
Well to avoid mistakes I will formulate my question in another way.
Which position must have the leading edge of the wings to go up

Just a sloper initially, need to investigate these pitcherons, maybe a motor on the second fuselage
Very popular in the rtno group again
Cutting ailerons would work too right?
Yes, that is the more common method
These models need more dihedral if you are going to fly them free flight. Apart from this major fault they are well designed.
what motor would i use if i wanted to do this (which i do)?
Something tiny like 1804 size
Very good!

That was some simple mods. Hope it slopes fine.
