@@josepheapen6142 unless its a newer scooter with maybe a built in safety, you shouldnt have to grip the brake to kickstart it. if it still doesnt start after a few times (10 max) you definitely have another issue. worn spark plug maybe? carb clogged up?

I've hated and thought I had a faulty starter for FOUR YEARS until this video. Sheesh. Thanks internet!
Internet says "You're Welcome" lol. P.S. This bypasses your starter motor, so you could still have a faulty starter. The starter motor connects to your starter solenoid which connects to your battery. So if it starts fine by kickstart, but won't electrically, it could still be one of those items. 👍
@@NewScooters4Less I'm in Chicago and we just have dramatically dropped temperatures. So it wasn't quite getting it. It would take about 10 starts and the battery would start to give before ignition

Correct. when starting with the electric start you need to pull a brake handle, but with most all scooters that we carry, you do NOT have to pull the brake handle when kick-starting.

My lance pch 150 has a so heavy kick start, I need to stand on it to move it down. It looks so easy in your scooter. Do you have any idea why?
Because this is a 50cc. It takes more compression to turn over a 150cc. Thanks!

Do you turn off the ignition completely or the kill switch first when you want to turn off the scooter??
It doesn't matter. Most people use the kill switch as an emergency turn off and just switch the scooter off by the key, but you can shut it off with the kill switch no problem. If you do, just make sure you turn your scooter (power) off by removing the key afterwards so you don't kill your battery and make sure you remember to put the kill switch on the circle before trying to start again. Hope that helps!

That is along the lines of what's happening to my Taotao 50cc. It was bogging down and wouldn't go past 30mph until I adjusted the ideal screw. I tried kick starting it, as electric start wouldn't even make a sound. When I pressed the kick start, the gearbox or possibly something other made a horrible stalling sound and the speedometer light went dim. I hope it's something minor.
aginstNWO I would pull off the transmission casing and see what is going on. If it is making horrible sounds, the gears probably aren't lined up correctly. Thanks!

Mine have electric starter and kick start too.. Can i use just the kick start always to make the lifespan of my battery longer?
It might save the battery life a little bit, but you will probably wear out your kickstart gears quicker, so I would just use the electric starter 😎

Yes it does, though it can be much tougher if it is completely dead. Your foot becomes the manual generator instead of the battery. You're still generating the energy. Scoot Safely!

Hey man I was gifted a bike from my grandfather but he had no key I was wondering if they key would need to be chipped in order for this to work?
Nope. There is no chip in this particular scooters key.
@@NewScooters4Less I just bought a really rough old 1986 Yamaha CE50 as a project; broken key switch, no battery, etc. Question: does the scooter need a battery installed in order to be KICK started? I checked the fuse, changed the plug, and tried to hot wire the bike just to get it started, but I have no spark. Do I need a battery? cdi/coil/new sparkplug wire? Appreciate you!
@@ogbigtsbikesandstuff887 a battery is not needed to kickstart it but it will be really tough. If you don’t have any spark, it’s not gonna start anyway. Definitely gotta figure out why it doesn’t have spark. It could be a coil, CDI, stator. Gotta narrow it down for sure. Start with the basics first. Make sure it’s nothing faulty with a kill switch. Hi Guys. I have the kymco agility 5cc Scooter. It has started every time by the Electric start. But on Friday 22/9/2017 UK time. I just made a Wining Sound and nothing. This Is after 2 Months In the Shed no use. I Pumped the Throttle, Held In the Brake lever and Used the Kickstart to no avail. Everything You should not do. This was advise from forums and Video's on Here. Then I came across Yours this Morning, 24/9/2017 UK time. I took It to a Flat surface, Turned It on and (Following the way You did It) and on the Third Kick It started. Ran It up and around the Estate by Me. Go back and tried the Electric start and First Time Every time. Thank You so Much for this Just Amazing. I will be following Your Video's for any problems that may arise. May be awhile as this Is a Bomb Proof made scooter that has a BMW Engine that Is used In there cars. I would highly recommend one of these for a Beginner as there will be Little maintenance. I suggest You getting a hold of one. And It Is 4 stroke so no need to wonder, (Did I put Oil In) Lol. Thanks from the UK.

You do not have to use throttle. Thanks.
On bikes with the enrichment pump on carb, a couple quick twists of the throttle grip squirts some fuel into the intake to help with cold starts, this is done before attempting to start with kickstart or electric ignition.

Boo! Sorry to hear about the issue! When was the last time it actually ran? There are too many possibilities without having more info. Some include:
1. If it was running just recently and now you have no sound, low electrical, etc. it could simply be a dead battery. You should be able to kick start the scooter, but if the battery is super weak it can be really difficult to get the scooter to turn over.
2. You might not have spark at the spark plug. No spark = no start. You would probably want to have a tech take a look at it if this was the problem as you would need to trace the problem and it could be a coil, cdi, stator, spark plug, etc. problem.
3. If your scooter has been sitting for a long time, it's probably bad fuel, clogged jets in the carburetor, and more. It would need to have the entire fuel system cleaned out.
Hopefully some of this helps, but more details would probably help us solidify what the problem is more than likely. Thanks!

If the kill switch is on the X, it will not start. So definitely check that!

Was wondering i have 49cc Tao Tao checked battery it's charged fise is good but not getting any power at all . Do you have any idea what it could be it was fine till took the battery out to charge up but when i hooked it back up nothing at all
Check to make sure the ignition is plugged into the wiring harness. I have seen them vibrate loose or become undone from people trying to steal the scooter. Also, sometimes the solder on the back of the ignition can wear and come undone. Any loose connections at the ignition itself would create this problem. Start there and let me know!
I am starting my scooter for the first time in 2months...The cell starter battery is dead trying to start ..I tried so many kicks and it still didnt work..Please help
Replace the battery or hook it up to a battery tender so you can get a good jump. Then choke the scooter at the air filter. You probably have some stale fuel too. Thanks!

I managed to start a Scooty Pep after almost 2 years. I think fresh fuel, starting spray and some stubborn kicks helped. Maybe new battery helped too, though I used the kickstart. They say the really volatile parts in gas are also easiest to ignite. So, when the gas goes stale, first those volatile parts evaporate and the remaining liquid becomes somewhat lazy : )
You squirt the starting spray/starter fluid around the air intake. That should be somewhere near the air filter housing.

I just got a Baja moped 06 and kick start gets stuck and it has no battery but we jumped it (me and guy I got it from) and it rides well. How to I get kickstart working
Garrett - Sounds like you have an issue going on in that crankcase cover (where the kickstart gear is). There are a series of bolts that you have to remove to take that crankcase cover off so you can see the transmission / belt, etc. Once you remove it, you will probably find one of a couple things... A broken spring / stripped gear that is not allowing the kickstart lever to pull back up automatically when you kick it down like it should OR gears that just came out of alignment and need to be adjusted and greased back up. Start by removing that crankcase and see if you can see any issues once you take it off. Let me know! (hope that helps!)
Hmm, mine doesn’t work. What does this indicate as my moped won’t start up even though it did yesterday and went for a ride on it. Came to go on it today for work and it just wouldn’t start up. Any suggestions.
Did you check out other videos? Is your battery dead?I hate to ask the basics, but scooters usually won't start for one of these reasons... The engine is not receiving fuel, it's not receiving spark, or it doesn't have compression. Start with those. Thanks!

My Peugeot Speedfight 4 is a pain to kickstart. I find it works best to partially hold open the throttle until it starts then close the throttle after a few seconds. How long does the scooter need to be sitting for it to be the best option to kick it into life?

New Scooters 4 Less - Well this is what im asking ive heard that you should really only kick start the scooter when its been sitting too long without use. How long is too long?
Don't let your scooter sit for more than a month. Fuel starts to go stale and the carburetor can become gunked up. These are carbureted machines (well, at least the one shown above it), so you really don't want them sitting around.

Hey Divyani! Most side stands on scooters are kill switches themselves - we recommend setting your scooter up on the center stand when you try to kickstart it 👍
So you don't pull the throttle at all when you start it? I was told to pull it slightly before starting to get some fuel pumping. I don't even know... Is that bull?
So many people lean over the scooter and yank on the throttle over and over. This isn't helping. You can turn the throttle a couple times, but kick starting as shown is the proper way to do it. You do not have to keep pulling on there throttle while kick starting. :)

New Scooters 4 Less Just a little update, was kickstarting for about half an hour today like shown with no luck. Didn't even sound close. Tried it *while* pulling the throttle, started second kick! It's a pretty old bike, Yamaha Cygnus X 2006. Although other tutorials show your way to also be right, seems my bike is just not going for it.

Hi there I've got a issue with my Chinese scooter. Working fine till yesterday. No spark at all. New cdi new coil. Still no spark. Was raining yesterday when it broke down. Could that be a issue. Maybe rain got into tank.please help
Mark! What's up man? Sorry to hear... Did you pull the spark plug to see if you have spark at the plug or are you assuming you have no spark? If the CDI and Coil are good and you still have no spark at the plug, then you have a stator problem more than likely (its like the 'alternator' for the scooter). Do you know how to check for spark at the spark plug? Let me know!

Hi we have a taotao 50 . the key won't turn to the on position. Is there a saftey feature i dont know about?
Nope. Should turn just fine. Is the steering locked? You would need to unlock the steering column by putting the key in and pushing in and turning to release. Then you could turn it to the on position. Hopefully that's all it is. LMK. Thanks!
I have a TaoTao 49cc scooter. It only has 59 miles on it, I drove it to storage and has been there for 2 years. Now it wont start. The lights come on but it makes no attempt to start. It makes no noise whatsoever. I tried to kick start it and nothing. No trying to turn over noise or anything. What could it be?
Alexandria Summers Was there has left sitting in your scooter during those 2 years? I would replace the carburetor fuel lines and fuel filter after draining out all the gas that was already in it. You need 93 octane fresh fuel and then put in a new battery and you should be good to go.
you mean gas? OK. I had this problem just before I stored it. That was why I put it in storage so it cant be old gas.

Jon Spencer From my experience, remote start on Chinese Scooters is a terrible thing to have. Half the time they don’t seem to work right and if they do, there is typically an alarm system associated with it that jut drains the scooter’s battery. My best suggestion is to not use the electric start and remove it completely. It starts just fine without using the remote?

hiya I got a sukida 125 sportsman 2 and the killswitch stand keeps coming down a mechanic just told me that when the bike is running and going it keeps coming down and stopping the bike and it won't start that was before I found out about the killswitch stand lol how can I keep the killswitch stand up so that it doesn't affect the bike going any help please thanks
You should be able to purchase new springs to keep your kickstand up. Sounds like you may be missing one or two or they are really worn out. You could always disconnect / bypass the kill switch in the kickstand, BUT if the kickstand keeps falling down, driving with it down would be VERY dangerous. That's the reason for the kill switch to begin with, so I would highly recommend fixing your side stand. Thanks!

laylowfans Definitely check the spark plug boot and make sure it didn't pop off the spark plug. It could have come loose when hitting a bump or something and this would keep it from having spark. What if i have an alarm with remote start?
This should still work. I would disconnect and get rid of the alarm system, especially if it is a cheap Chinese one. They typically do nothing but drain the battery of its power. Thank you!

Yea my adly gta 50 hasn't ran for about a month and I can't get that to run again. It starts up for about 1 second after the kick start then it dies.
Try pulling the brake handle and pressing the yellow button and just hold it for a solid minute. See if that does it. Try not to give it any throttle.
Have you topped it off with some fresh 93 octane fuel? This may help in this process. Otherwise, you are going to have to try and clean the carb out, but if it has only been sitting a month, this may do the trick.

Pablo, in the event you can't start it with the electric starter, you can turn the key to the on position and pull the kick start lever out and give it a good push through. This is how you kick start the scooter. Hope that helps!
is it bad to kick start your scooter every time that you use it?
Hey! Not necessarily. The only problem is that you risk stripping down your kickstart gears over time. If the gears get worn/stripped, eventually your kickstart may not work either. It would probably be best to get the e-start working just to prevent that from happening, but you're not technically 'hurting' the scooter or anything :)
Does the BWS50 have this feature?
I'm not familiar with that model, BUT MOST 49cc scooters have a kickstart lever like this.

Not all scooters have one. So, yours may not.

Sorry to hear that. You may have a different problem... Check the kill switch. Is the side stand down, too? If so, make sure it is kicked up (some of them have kill switches in the stand). Do you have fresh fuel, etc. too?
