They, in fact, share a mutual respect and even affection for one another based on tremendous common ground and shared goals. Not to overstate, there are differences, most notably on the issue of climate change, but that's evolving in some ways. This alliance and the friendship that has emerged between Macron and Trump are good for both nations. Try to see Trump as Macron does. Take a personal leap beyond the rhetoric and the partisan spin and you'll start to see that there is momentous progress being made.
