    Hi Simon. Like a few others on here, I came across your channel while investigating the TT scale while designing my future layout, and what invaluable information you provide.
    I intend to do an over and under 4 track layout, and to that end, I wondered if there's any chance of you trying some inclines to see how the locos you have perform.
    Keep up the brilliant videos.
    Thanks

      I've been planning the exact same thing so would also love to see a gradient test for TT locos. Ideally I'd like my large locos to be able to pull at least 5 or 6 coaches up a gradient without too much effort.
      One added bonus is they'll be a lot more room to fit a gentle gradient in TT compared to OO.

    I'm very keen to start building a railway layout. Due to space, it'll either be this TT120 or N gauge. I'd want a steam loco rather than anything too modern but it's funny that it's basically impossible to get a suitable train set for either 'scales' at the moment in the UK! Nothing from Graham Farish and TT120 is all on pre-order (Kato only has US/Japanese ones or the GWR liveried IET). Do these companies not want to take my money?!

    Hi Simon. Good review. I did an unboxing and running session of this train set, and my set has the same issue with the wheels rubbing against the sole bar! I think Hornby should make TT:120 rolling stock and locos 2mm wider, as this would give another 1mm clearance, which is what is required. Although the width would be slightly overscale to prototype, this would not be noticeable as all the other dimensions would be to TT:120. Thanks for uploading.

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Allen, it is annoying that the wheels rub and make that sound. I wonder if it will eventually 'fix' itself by the wheels rubbing the plastic away after a lot of running time perhaps. Thanks for watching 👍

    • @AllensTrains
      @AllensTrains ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimonsShed I have thought that. The simplest answer is to use a larger radius curve! I think Hornby should increase the width of he rolling stock by 2mm. Although they would be wider than prototypical, it would not be noticeable. I notice the sole bars are chamfered inside to give more room; I think if the plastic is left to wear, it would make it very thin and weak. I also notice the couplings are rusty. I am tempted to send SK and email!

    Nice video. I know it's not the "Hornby Way", but it would be nice if the second set had a different curve radius, for example, a second radius, so that you could combine with the Scotsman track to make a double track loop.
    Also, disappointed that you didn't hitch up the Pullmans to see how they all ran together.

    Nice review. Has the same characteristics as my Easterner set, though in addition, the top of the A4 valve gear in mine seems to be bent outwards slightly in one side. I'm also suspicious of the pin on a rear driving wheel projecting out some way. Hope this doesn't come out.
    Overall a lovely model though, and nicer than Blink Bonny imo.

    Hi Simon Nice review, although did you notice the front pony truck lifting off the track in segment 5 at 8.35 and the rear pony truck lifting off the track at 8.41 and when pulling the coaches at 11.29 and 17.43, although it didn't seem to effect the performance at all. Perhaps if the track was fixed down the problem wouldn't be as obvious, good luck with it though, it may get better with time and running etc. Thanks

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes definitely something going on there. The wires on my power track create a bump and the join in the table means half of it is 'uphill' and half 'downhill' so the track is not perfect. Ill have to fix some track down and see if that fixes it 👍

    • @twiggacott
      @twiggacott ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bit pedantic I know but a pony truck has two wheels, a bogie truck has four so the front one is a bogie, rear is a pony. Can’t wait until the Glasgow Show in late February to see these in the flesh on Hornby’s stand

      @@SimonsShedIt's not as simple as it sounds. Cardboard is not good for the environment either. More resources of energy, water, deforestation and very nasty chemicals are used to make it vs plastic. Nor is it infinitely recyclable. After recycling 9 times the fibres are too short for it to be recycled further. Plastics can be recycled indefinitely using modern techniques.

  • @OrSomeBricks

    Thanks for another great video. I wonder if the coach noise comes from the Kinematic couplings rubbing against the coach floor when they reach the curve in the track?

    • @davidwatts1871
      @davidwatts1871 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video, enjoyed watching it and looking forward to the rest in the TT 120 series. I bought the Eastener and was rather worried because all the videos I've seen people have had some real problems, items that have fallen off and they don't know which part it is. And like your set the coaches make a terrible noise on the radius. Mine arrived yesterday and I tested it last night and while no bits had fallen off the loco the coaches do make a terrible noise. Sounds like they are dragging an injured animal behind.
    I'm putting my setup on a 5X4 ft board and have ordered all the track packs. I'm nor too keen on the Hornby layout with all the track packs so may have to order a few extra track pieces. No idea yet what the layout will be but no rush as the packs will no arrive 'till later in the month so it will be March when I get them.

      Cheers John yes the Gaugemaster controller is great, its so heavy and solid it feels like it will last forever! Quite a few times I''ve been servicing/fixing n gauge locos on the cheap DC train set controllers thinking the loco is not working when its actually the controller being unreliable so it will come in handy 👍

    I had a bit of an issue when building my R3 180 curve from my new Scotsman set, in that though I took very great care to fit the individual curved components tight against their neighbours, I found, after fitting six, that the rotation was greater than 180! Anyone else found that.
    Tomorrow I shall scribe out individual 30 degree sectors and make sure that I get parallel opposite straights.
    Thanks for the video. Nicely done!

      Thanks Peter, I did find myself adjusting the track pieces slightly to get everything to sit correctly. Maybe Hornby designed in a bit of a gap between pieces to allow for expansion/contraction? Not sure! Thanks for watching 👍
