it depends on stats and scalings, greases are a flat buff so if you have low stats then greases will be better but if you have high stats then spells/ashes of war will be better. greases have to be farmed for, spells can be used infinitely and usually last longer than ashes of war so generally the ranking would probably be spells ashes greases
ashes like flame spear are super cool and good but if its a ranking of buffs then i think its fair to just be looking at the buff part of the ash and its pretty short compared to spell buffs. looks great tho i love the messmerflame effect, when the dlc dropped one of my biggest complaints was no messmerflame spell buff since in the base game fire is already the only element that doesnt have a spell buff (bloodflame and blackflame dont count)
I love these weapons, they're so fun to use. The Cirques kinda remind me of the Uroboros's eye weapon from Lies of P, which is my favorite weapon in that game
@@user-jx6rf9zc5ler backhand blades aren't really a historical weapon. The falx most definitely is and would be a bit silly to change it's historical use
@adamnave1078 You won't believe at what I'm bout to say, but... Elden Ring isn't actually about historical accuracy. Because, you know... things like Giant-Crusher and Bloody Chiken leg as a weapon can't be historically accurate. Same shit with Backhand blades, Claws, Whips, Reapers and pretty much every weapon class in ER. Because if ER was historically accurate, you could only use shield with spear as most efficient build in history
Absolutely loved the Smithscript blades for the my first run through the DLC. Being able to infuse bleed and fit in the odd projectile depsite it not being your turn to attack made the experience very easy for me.
My first playthrough of the DLC was with Cold Backhand Blades mostly and I felt like getting carried a lot of the time, oneshotting bosses at several occasions. The charged heavy attack and the weapon art are such amazing tools and dmg can get very high in NG++
Smithscript weapons have a nice perk where if you infuse them with status they inflict the full status build up regardless of fall off damage, used the spear on bayle resently, safe and free way if getting frost bite especially as a phantom where you have half healing
The OG backhand blade is OP, is DPS is just behind power standing curvesword but it lighter, and we can equip another weapon with special effect such as the turtle shield. And the ash of war blind spot and swift slash are just OP, I can only dodge PC radahn X attack with blind spot.
Once again, bullshit boss doing her bullshit combo canceling shit because she has to be bullshit, as if I need more reasons to hate this bullshit girl boss boss,oh my god, my hate for this bullshit boss only gets deeper everyday......
People forget with these curved sword you can cancel the charge attack with a dodge. That also goes for this smith script weapon. It’s pretty cool and soamable.
I've only really used the "generic" Backhand Blades so far, but they are indeed busted. I've enjoyed them a lot on my RL1 run because the really low weight matters more at low Endurance and the deflecting-guard counter approach works well for me at lower risk (once you get the hang of deflecting, which takes some practice, but is generally easier than parrying, IMO).
I've never really liked power stanced curved swords. I don't know why, but it just doesn't mesh with me. But I really enjoy the backhand blades for some reason! Intellectually I have no explanation for why, but whereas I avoid curved swords to this day I really like bleed infused backhand blades. :)
I like smithscript cirque with the bloodhound step and Miriam's vanishing spell in my offhand in pvp. Its fun when the other player has some crazy movement with skills or spells too it becomes a literal anime battle sometimes😂
Smithscript rankings? I never thought I would swear by the throwable knives but holy shit are they viable now. Combine them with a dueling shield or the smithscript small shield and you can have a lot of fun. The fact that I can roleplay as almost every Avatar character now is just amazing. Just wish we had a nonlethal acrobatic takedown build for some Ty Lee roleplay.
still sad about the random nerf they gave to all the smithscript weapon elemental infusions, it was such a cool niche for them. Granted it probably was a bit broken, but we already had the erdsteel dagger (which didn't even receive a matching nerf) so idk.
The smithscript weapons feel like they were inspired by the hatchets from Nioh 2 which have the same heavy attack property of being a ranged attack. In Nioh each weapon has three stances each with their own move set so the hatchets have three different heavy attacks that all throw one of both the hatchets. However, in Nioh 2 the hatchets' heavy attacks are actually usable. High stance has the same heavy attack as the smithscript axe, the middle stance has the same heavy attack as the smithscript cirque, the low stance throws the hatchets at the enemies feet which admittedly isn't that useful. In Nioh 2 though they have even more throwing attacks, and most importantly none of the throwing attacks suffer from poise damage reductions. They have a throw that functions like the smithscript shield, one that throws them in circles around you that fan out as they circle around you (like diablo 3's crusader), and my personal favorite is a throw attack that has the weapon spin around you closely hitting anything that comes close (think of attacks with nunchucks irl). With that last attack if you time the next attack right you'll bat the hatchet you threw around yourself at the enemy like it's baseball. This attack right here does stupid amounts of damage. Anyway my point is that the hatchets in Nioh 2 seem like they were built with the throwing attacks in mind while remembering the throwing attacks are the highlight of the weapon category. The heavy attacks from the smithscript weapons in Elden Ring feel phoned in tbh when compared to the hatchets from Nioh 2. The game also has the Splitstaff weapon type that's a staff that can extend like Goku's from Dragon Ball which pretty much accomplishes the same thing, but that's not something Elden Ring has a version of.
fyi backhand blades have the best rolling attack frames and moveset in the game (even better than daggers) pair it with quickstep with leda's armor + crosstree talisman and you get a busted weapon
The only time I've seen Cirque Blades be good in gaming was in Kingdom's of Amalur Reckoning where they were OP as hell, lol. On another note, while playing against Yoda I've found that Blind Spot is a terrible aow to use and he just bounces around it and I swear he punked me so bad I switched weapons mid fight haha.
I absolutely love the script cireq but I absolutely hate it in arena because if I see someone using it the 9 out of 10 people literally do nothing but jumping R2. I take that as being a troll. Even though it has short range. The tracking is great. If you put bleed on there, literally two jumping R2 have half your health is gone with the right build therefore you don't need no skill. God forbid if they increase the range on that.
Here, I'll rank the throwing blades so you don't have to: S tier: Kukri A tier: Fan Daggers C tier: Poisonbone Dart Throwing Dagger Bone Dart D tier: Crystal Dart Smithscript Dagger
I think you should remake your all weapons video into n actual normal ranking, in the future someone looking for an all weapons ranking would not like to watch it the way it is.

Dude are you INSANE???? The running heavy of backhand blades does ALOTTTTT more damage than the running attack of powerstanced curved swords. Not just alittle bit more. ALOT. Actually, it does more damage than JUMPING attacks of curved swords, even with lower AR. Let me guess. You only tested it in the Omen in the sewers. Well the curved swords get something like a headshot on running attacks in these particular enemies and inflates the numbers. Test it anywhere else. It is not even close. In general STOP testing damage on the Omens. They have weird weak spots that give very inconsistent results.
@youwy Unless they stealth nerfed it it is not the case. Not even close. I have not played in a while but i have spent about 100 hours just comparing these 2 weapon classes.
@@youwy Just tested it again against the same Banished Knight. Backhand Blades - 638 AR Dual Bandit's Curved Swords - 677 AR - Backhand Blades heavy running attack - 1192 damage - Dual Bandit's running attack - 986 damage - Dual Bandit's jumping attack - 1088 damage As i said not even close. Even with lower AR, backhand blades heavy running attack does more damage EVEN against Dual Curved swords jumping attack. If optimized (Leda's armour + lacerating talisman), the gap becomes even bigger (even if you optimize for jump attacks with curved swords).
