You’re only seeing a snapshot of a one small area in Philadelphia, Kensington Avenue and a couple of surrounding streets. The rest of the city is quite nice!
@@joananthony6323 Kensington Avenue and the surrounding areas has always been a medium to long socioeconomic district. It has had a checkered past surrounding drug use, racial segregation and discrimination and very questionable government policies and leadership! That being said, in the 1950’s it was a thriving urban community with a mix demograph. The streets were lined with retail stores, restaurants, grocery shops and other small commercial businesses! As for employment, in the 1950’s Philadelphia was the hub of the US textile industry, and the Mills were located in the Kensington Avenue district! The community continued to prosper until the late 50’s to the early 60’s before manufacturing was taken off shore to save on costs! Since then, the district, the community and Kensington Avenue has slowly declined into what we see today. Rows of abandoned buildings, businesses and homes with the majority of the population now drug addicts, dealers and the homeless! It’s a very sad tale but it one that’s being heard in many other cities in the US. If you want to dig deeper, there’s website, photo galleries etc on the net!
The cities in the Eastern United States resemble what they were in the 70s and early 80,s dirty, crime ridden, drugs and danger, businesses leaving, the pendulum has moved full circle!

@@hettyphilips I understand your frustration and I agree, the community shouldn’t have to put up with it! Unfortunately drug addiction is exactly the same as any other addiction! Tobacco, alcohol, gambling and drugs are the top 4 social issues that have plagued society for thousands of years, and I promise you, things will never change! Of course they can be managed but there isn’t a silver bullet to solve the problem because humans are the ones causing the problem! Mayor Parker is laying the foundation for a better management system but it will take many months to see any progress.
@@bran1886 I agree, a change in state and local government would certainly throw a cat amongst the pigeons, but the likelihood of that happening is zero!Philadelphia has been a Democrat strongholds for around 70 years. The reason for this is simple, the voter demographic in the city is pro dominantly blue and the reds are out numbered! In saying that, newly elected mayor, although being Democrat, has certainly made her presence felt and is spearheading a campaign to clean up Kensington and the city’s drug problem! But the community needs to be realistic in their expectations. Drug use is a social issue which is created by a group of individuals (in) the community. This is why they can’t be solved, you can’t stop people from doing dumb shit! As I said earlier, I agree with you, the leadership certainly needs a good shake up and nothing meaningful will change until that happens! In my opinion, all levels of government need to take a more authoritarian approach to drug management in the country. Laws need to change, crime must not go unpunished and people should be held accountable! Their rights and freedoms removed until they are fit to return to the community as productive citizens! State governments should also be held accountable for every cent of federal funding received and should not be allowed to undermine Federal Drug Control. The November elections will be an interesting one. The Trump Administrations campaign has 15 pledges to solve America’s woes. These include immigration, drug trafficking, education reform, national guard management etc! If elected, the 2024 elections will be a defining moment in American history, and has the potential to change how the world views the American Nation, and its ripple effect will be felt for generations! 5:15, was the cop just standing over the poor guy until you reached closer to him? My glasses aren't doing me much justice these days 🤦🏽♀️A damned shame, if that's the case 😢 We've been having the same issues up here, in Montréal, since a lil before the pandemic started. It's a lot worse now. Instead of the addicts claiming a few métro stations (downtown), it's past the dt area, and up to 4 more stations have been claimed. I just found out that we have our version of Vancouver's East Hastings alley; ours is called Allée du Crack (crack alley; how original). It takes up a few streets By 2019, crack wasn't really crack any longer. I lost a dear friend in my life due to smoking what he thought was crack, then. There were traces of fentanyl in his system. He'd started smoking about 6 months prior to his death. I wish we could've seen the signs earlier. It's terrible how the homeless are treated, and there aren't enough resources or enough qualified workers to help them. This epidemic was amplified by the pandemic. It's fkn scary fr fr Keep doing what you're doing, spreading awareness 🙏🏽🙏🏽 I wish to do the same for the greater Mtl area, up here, eventually. There isn't that much of any up and close exposure here. We do deal with a lot of gangs de rues (street gangs), especially s@x trafficking. It's pretty fkn bad up here, too. It's mainly Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver - now Ottawa, too - that gets a lil more coverage on the fentanyl crisis Anyway, this shit's been up here for a minute. It's gotta bounce out from everywhere! I'm praying that this epidemic gets healed and rid of, for good 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Legalise it all and have it provided to them so the cartels and criminal underworld make no money but on the condition these people move into specific areas designated for their lifestyle. There is no fixing these people unless they want to be fixed and clearly what we are doing is not working. Separating those who want to participate in society from those who don't care at all is a necessary start
An ice cream truck playing music in the background is sad!! Who would let their kids out around that!?!? 😬🫣 So many people bent over tying their shoes…need to switch to Velcro, crocs or slip-ons! 🙄🙄(insert sarcasm) I partied in the 80’s…thank goodness those days are long behind me, I’d be scared as hell to buy anything nowadays!! 😬
I have to give them credit. It's 100% better than it was - at least visually. Every street this dude walked on was trash covered from building to curb. Don't see that here. Tents? Not here. Are a few stragglers in the area - sure. That's expected. But the concentration of people that have been in this three-five week zone is about 5% of what it was pre-cleanup. Do they need to do more? Absolutely. They need to get people to take over those empty businesses again. The tents at least used to hid the roll-down gates during the middle of the day showing how many of those businesses were no longer existing. I'm sure most people want 100% turnaround instantly . Things in the real world just don't happen that way. This is a huge win for the Mayor and the city. Now, if the degen's are now occupying a different area of the city and will turn that into the next Kensington - that would be a nil. No progress - simply maneuvering things for a political snapshot. They need to keep up with this - and not just for a month or two. It took about 2-3 years for K&A and the area to absolutely go down the drain. It often takes two times that to get it fixed again. Kudos to all involved and I really hope they stick with it.
I agree, Mayor Parker has achieved more in her first 130 days in office than previous mayors combined for decades! A key promise in her election campaign was to clean up Kensington Avenue which she has delivered. The addicts and homeless are gone and the trash has been removed and all the sidewalks have been pressure washed. It’s certainly a vast improvement and pleasing to see! But the community must also be realistic in their expectations as well! Cleaning the streets and moving the addicted and homeless on was the easy part. Now the real challenge starts, managing the problem in a sustainable way! A lot of comments focused on the fact many of the people have only moved around the corner and into surrounding streets, which is true, but the encampments are gone. This step was very important because Parker is now enforcing loitering laws. They are constantly being moved along by law enforcement officers, if they settle on the sidewalk, they are arrested! This strategy is the first step in managing the addicts! When they loiter they’re arrested, then they’re offered 30 days rehab or 30 days in jail it’s their choice! For those who choose rehab, during treatment they offered assistance to take advantage of all the government benefits and programs to aid them into recovery. For those who chose jail, they face withdrawal with prison based treatment! When they are discharged from rehab or released from jail, they can either choose to continue their journey to recovery or return to the streets. If they choose the latter, the cycle begins again, loitering, arrest, rehab or jail and release! Eventually they become overwhelmed with the cycle and start making better choices! The process has its limitations, but it’s another step in the right direction! As for Kensington Avenue, there’s a lot of talk about rejuvenating the whole area, council buy backs and redevelopment etc. I doubt it will return to its original status as a residential and retail hub but it will make some sort of comeback! Only time will tell!
You cannot solve this problem over nite Kingston has long way to go these people had lose hope they just waiting to die This addiction is a deaths sentence soon of later it will take them out. The city really doesn't no how to fix this.

No, it won’t be fixed unfortunately! Addiction has plagued society for thousands of years! Tobacco, alcohol, gambling and drug addiction are the top 4 social issues that humans cause! The only difference between them is 3 are socially acceptable and 1 is a social taboo! 3 are controlled by the government and 1 isn’t…. and as we all know, people love shit that shouldn’t have!!! When Mayor Parker took office in January, all of the out of state addicts and homeless were sent back to where they came from!
It's happening everywhere.
Just the beginning...
Easy to judge. Hard to live. “Judge ye not…lest ye be judged.” It ain’t easy. Blessings humanity. 🙏🏾😪
Wow imagine maybe the family’s seeing this video how suffering seems her children’s out there😢
The ice cream truck is playing Little Brown Jug !
Where are the toilets?
There aren’t any, they shit and piss anywhere they can, sidewalk, gutter, vacant lots, gardens, etc. The whole place stinks!
There was one video a guy made like this but he was in Los Angeles and he had to wear rubber boots because of so much human waste (poop, pee, vomit) on the sidewalks everywhere. This is happening all over America and it's sick and sad.
Buy a large piece of farm land..tiny homes...force the addicts off the street..put em in the tiny homes to detox..have basic medical in case of a bad detox..6 months maybe they all be farmers growing food for themselves n the community.some will obv not make it..but a lot would.time and no access to anything except tools n food and water to drink would see a change I think.
Every public servant around there should be fired and jailed!
Dang! This place is just a hub of activity!
Some things are unfortunately beyond repair.
Some people though are self-righteous because they never had to experience poverty or addiction. Jesus loves them as well as those self-righteous people.🌴✡️
05:20 that is grim
Hey what's worse fentanyl or narcan?
Narcan gives the individuals a 2nd chance of another fentanyl over dose-!!!😉 Must be a world record for a narcan recovery-???🤔.
It's changed so much it's like a different city
You’re only seeing a snapshot of a one small area in Philadelphia, Kensington Avenue and a couple of surrounding streets. The rest of the city is quite nice!
It must have been a nice area once Probably 20 years ago
@@joananthony6323
Kensington Avenue and the surrounding areas has always been a medium to long socioeconomic district.
Stay tune 😅
Wow.
ohhh 😱 alle wieder zurück gekommen (?)
The cities in the Eastern United States resemble what they were in the 70s and early 80,s dirty, crime ridden, drugs and danger, businesses leaving, the pendulum has moved full circle!
6:37 Studge & June (Doc)
7:08 Love Birds at right side.
They are hardcore addicts, sell drugs as well.....won't get rid of them as they love the lifestyle
Unbelievable 😮😢😢😢
Everyone will be back when they get out of jail. There’s nothing there no reason for police to be there. I see it all the time out here in Seattle.
Shame on the state the people in the community store owners for not speaking out to clean up the area
It will never change up all work together sadly its a shame the store all where they huddled at have not did nothing of course not money is they target when people gone wakw up dont help to try to clean up the streets and still have a store
It's the local store owners helping them boost
Hey, it's all about Tolerance !
They did and it's fallen on deaf ears. Instead they get prevention points handing out needles.
Everyone was offered help. Only 38 took the help. Law enforcement & care groups have to keep trying. It will not stop until they are ready. The help is there. One at a time. One is better than none. Just sad 😂.
I agree, I saw it happen and all the support people were there! Going by the comments, people need to understand what’s happening on Kensington Avenue is a quick fix. Nothing will fix the cities drug issues so it can only be managed at best! What Mayor Parker is doing is laying the foundations to do just what!
Dope boy dope get back out there 5'0 still around so move like a soldier to many costumers greetings from the imperial city the southern hemisphere amazon descendents no zombies here
Clean? Where?
No matter how much you move people some are lost anwill never be seen forever😢
It is up to the local community to reclaim their area back and move these addicts elsewhere.
What does that solve? You’re just moving the issue and turning it into someone else’s problem!
@@ronferguson9695 It is unacceptable that families have to witness this, people power makes all the difference, especially at election time. The authorities need to come up with a solution for these addicts. It goes on because it is ALLOWED to go on.
Then do something about it, you keep voting Democrat in Philly, what changes? How about putting some fear into them and voting for another party to scare them straight so to speak. Until then they laugh at you and continue to have DAs who won't prosecute criminals, the drugs will keep flowing and everyone on TH-cam will whine and complain.

I understand your frustration and I agree, the community shouldn’t have to put up with it!

I agree, a change in state and local government would certainly throw a cat amongst the pigeons, but the likelihood of that happening is zero!Philadelphia has been a Democrat strongholds for around 70 years.
Just food for thought 💭
All they need now is for Amber to so up again. All is back as it was.
I live here when this neighborhood was predominantly white and was clean and prestige, now look at it😢
never-ending ! fentanyl !
Очень печально 😢
А че такого,Бидон вечно под кумаром ну население решило не отставать
It better now excellent
5:15, was the cop just standing over the poor guy until you reached closer to him? My glasses aren't doing me much justice these days 🤦🏽♀️A damned shame, if that's the case 😢
We've been having the same issues up here, in Montréal, since a lil before the pandemic started. It's a lot worse now. Instead of the addicts claiming a few métro stations (downtown), it's past the dt area, and up to 4 more stations have been claimed. I just found out that we have our version of Vancouver's East Hastings alley; ours is called Allée du Crack (crack alley; how original). It takes up a few streets
By 2019, crack wasn't really crack any longer.
It's fkn scary fr fr
Keep doing what you're doing, spreading awareness 🙏🏽🙏🏽 I wish to do the same for the greater Mtl area, up here, eventually. There isn't that much of any up and close exposure here. We do deal with a lot of gangs de rues (street gangs), especially s@x trafficking. It's pretty fkn bad up here, too. It's mainly Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver - now Ottawa, too - that gets a lil more coverage on the fentanyl crisis
Anyway, this shit's been up here for a minute.
Can't turn a sows ear in to a silk purse that is so sad
An ice cream truck playing music in the background is sad!! Who would let their kids out around that!?!? 😬🫣
So many people bent over tying their shoes…need to switch to Velcro, crocs or slip-ons! 🙄🙄(insert sarcasm)
I partied in the 80’s…thank goodness those days are long behind me, I’d be scared as hell to buy anything nowadays!! 😬
😂😂 good good 😂😂😂😂 tying their shoes 😂😂😂😂
Philadelphia Take Care of These People!
You can’t take care of people who don’t want it
The people have to want it. I have seen interviews where addicted people say it is to easy to stay because they get food & clothing every day.
@@kidcopper7941 but it is heartbreaking! This the Price of Freedom!😢😢😢
its darwinism
Was that music being played by a business as a deterrent?
Sad. There's even a daycare in that area😢
Look good
Зомби захватили город? А где же власти где законы?
I couldn't live that life.
You cannot solve this problem over nite Kingston has long way to go these people had lose hope they just waiting to die
This addiction is a deaths sentence soon of later it will take them out.
The city really doesn't no how to fix this.
It seems to be a slightly thinner crowd of those poor zombies out there and a little less debris. Otherwise not to much change.
Not in a mean way but I would be scared to death to even drive through down there this shit is wild and sad it's like nothing I've ever seen unbelievable 😮
Of course they back they not gone go too far a way from the fetty were else they gone go 🙄
Masalah nya rada hayal itu sudah tidak ada lagi kita isap pun sama seperti air sahaja kerana pertandingan sudah tidak ada lagi sudah selesai dan pemanang nya mereka yang berjaya sempai ke garisan akhir
They went somewhere
At least it doesn't look like it did until a few years ago.
Doesn’t look that much different to me, maybe minus the tents, but that’s it

Funny, as MGT and the repubs want to abolish the FBI
I'm sure trumpty dumpty would do a great job taking care of it!!....🤣🤣
Cop chasing the ice cream truck for a cone
Living in a town of 3,000 people, I sometimes wonder if kids who were raised here might think of the closest "city" (pop 85,000) as being.... A hellscape of open-air drug markets with a rampant homeless population who only hacve themselves to blame, with the ubiquitous hyper-militarized police force waiting for a chance to baton them. --Given the limits of our experience, and the extent of the world that we get to see in our lives... every place inevitably looks different to someone.
These are the same ones who were school hall walkers
Still not planning a family vacation .
What's the point of cleaning one section! if the rest looks like a garbage can.
What did they expect?
I don't think this problem is ever gonna get fixed smh sadly
What else is new:???🤔.
Just food for thought 💭
Only 2 minutes into the video doesn't look like a whole lot's change.I'm sure that clean up that they had before the camera.Since the world is watching i'm from florida and i'm a recovering addic myself and I never in the world seen anything like this
I thought they were sent off to Ukraine... 😢
Таке добро потрібно Америці.
It won’t change there! Few more weeks and it will be the same as before
week cleaning end
Guess who's back, back again ...
?
Perhaps the ice cream vendor-???🤔.
It was meant as a joke ... the addicts never left ... they moved over a block and now they are filtering back.
Aa you meant all of them. I thought just some excact person.
Slim Shady😊
This is so disgusting 🫣 😤
Are they back yet?!😄😅
lol, love to see it
