Epic ride from this man on a heavy bike. Especially riding up the river bed. That takes guts & a pinch of madness. I get the same thrill, but with the occasional off, it takes it's toll on the body. Great video 👌👍 Thanks for sharing your experience.
Photo at 22:39 for me Darryl.👌 Wow that is nasty to have that happen, lucky it wasn’t Blackie. Wasn’t that a surprise to see the horses up there, what a way to travel. Such a slow pace and time to take in all that scenery. Hey, it has to be blowing hard when you think you could surf those waves.😂 Merry Christmas to you and your family and look forward to seeing more videos in the new year. Darrel RtB
Morning Darrel and Merry Xmas to you and your family. Yes the horses made my day and what a way to suck in the ambiance. I've got one more to upoad and that will finish my February 2024 series. I'll head down to the South Island Feb 4th 2025 and do the west coast. No plans, just grab Josh Martins adventureguide, com and do what happens. I'll go alone and enjoy myself without having people that can't be relied on tagging along. Cheers
@ awesome mate, look forward to seeing your next episode and your next adventure. The west coast will be a big change of scenery from the McKenzie country, you won’t be short of content over there.📹 It’s good to sometimes go on your own especially if you are filming and using a drone.
The clay cliffs are better viewed from a distance, beautiful all the same close up. Shame about your shoulder incident, but good call to head out while still able, nice episode mate
Yes the cliffs look awesome when looking across from the Omarama Lindis Pass road. I had to use my left arm to lift my right arm onto the throttle and I wasn't too uncomfortable. I was able to ride back home to Napier. It took a solid 8 months doing the physio exercises every day to get things back into shape again. Thanks for watching Ham
@@peterdawson7775 Hi Peter and a Merry Christmas to you. I've got one more vid to upload to finish the 2024 Sth Island series I did if February. I'll be crossing to the Sth Island again 4th Feb 2025 and head down and up the west coast. Watch that space. Yep eight dilligent months of daily physio exercises got me back in action but my shoulder won't ever be the same, Long as I can ride ok that's all that matters. Cheers
I was thinking you might have to do the physio on the shoulder as i did my shoulder in and couldn't raise my arm , took a few bike rides to get the shoulder ride fit after months of physio , so well done Darryl 🎉. @@kiwiadventurer
From the first crossing at Monument hut stay straight, don't go right it gets deep that side. If you see markers (road cones, put out by the locals) follow them. Next hut up is red hut, worth the effort. Once you cross the river and the nor'wester blows, wind is not the issue but the rapid rise in water level.
Morning Anthony, Good information and speaking from experience. I had done my home work and was aware of the correct route. After the first crossing I was enjoying river bed riding and assumed I could cross back onto the tussock plateau where the track was further up. There was a vague 4x4 trk heading towards Red Hut and I wasn't interested attempting that side of the river, especially on my own. Thanks for watching and Merry Xmas to you
Hey Noel, Merry Xmas. Conditionss probably looked worse than reality. Riding was pretty easy and not very challenging to be honest. I wasn't filming when I fell over. I was on the 4x4 track on the tussock platau and was almost stopped, The back wheel was on the radius of the tyre track and slid 6 inches sideways. It was rediculous. Anyway mate, thanks for your support these last few years
