I think you should consider adding “asbestos free” to your purchase checklist. Some of those places had corrugated asbestos roofing. Always check before renovating.

You'll find radon in buildings all over the world at much higher accepted levels and many times not even meassured at all, and that's likely why many foreigners haven't even heard of it, eventho they might have been exposed their entire life. If levels of Radon is high, then install some additional ventilation, problem solved. It accumulates in stale air.

What a shame - I've only been to Sweden once - in Ulricehamn - and it was ages ago. So you definitely sparked my interest, have to admit :))) ✌ What I'd like to add .. if you've found a nice property that seems ok, talk also to locals, check the background a little .. so that there are no noisy neighbors nearby .. such people can be a real pain in the a** in long term, believe me.
You will eventually have to pay for waste disposal services. It is by law, so no way around it - even in the middle of "nowhere" you will have to pay for it. The costs are not astronomical, but you should put aside about 2-300 Euro per year for this. Some get it cheaper, some more expensive. It is partly dependent on what area you happen to end up in.

I note from other channels that some properties come with several outbuildings which is great? Also how far north can you go without getting too extreme?

Hemnet won't tell you which ones are legal to live in permanently. It's also possible to register a sommerhuset as a all year around home :)
