Hi, don't ever apolagise for crying, this is real music. This is music with rraw emotion in their voices. unfortunatly, a lot of music being made today doesn't have the raw emotion in the voices because most music has too much auto tuning, especially in today's country. Vince, Patty Loveless, and Ricky Scags are great country music singers. Great reaction, thank you very much.
The purpose of art is to evoke emotion. This song reaches deep into your heart and makes you feel the bittersweetness of remembering a loved one who has passed. Vince wrote it for his brother but I think he wrote it for everyone who loses some special.
He wrote song about a brother he lost and you can feel it it in words and music. It tears me up everytime from first note on. I think of my dad who died in 1992. When I was 16

Vince Gill wrote this for his brother who had died. I lost my twin brother to kidney disease on Sept 1st 2018., they played this song at his funeral. Then I lost my oldest brother July 3rd 2020 to cancer. He also had a twin, my sister Terri. This original is the best in my opinion. Thank you so much for posting this and your raw and heartfelt emotions. I have the same reaction every time I hear it.
If you havent heard George Jones "He stopped loving her today" you should add that to your list. Old school country but very sad and beautiful. I was never a country fan until I got older but I love it now.
That's what real talent can do to all of us. Vince is gifted. He wrote the song then ripped our hearts out with his beautiful voice. He wrote the song for his friend, his brother, Keith Whitley, who was an amazing artist, after he passed. Check Keith out also. You'll love both of them. What a beautiful soul you have. Never apologize for being human
3:03 that’s his voice and this music. Bluegrass is so somber and the instruments with the voice just has a way of reaching in your chest and grabbing your heart
It's OK...this makes me cry (you probably already know it's about his brother). I am a hippy from the 60's...but Vince Gill is one of my favorite artists...country and all...Peace, Health and Happiness from Halifax, Nova Scotia
My uncle died in a car accident in May 1995. This song was released in August 1995. I was driving the first time I heard it and I had to pull over, because I was crying so much. All these years later, I can't hear this song and not cry.
Vince Gill wrote this song after his brother had died. He performed the song at George Jones' memorial service and he could barely sing the song because he was crying so hard. It broke my heart watching it.
He actually wrote this song as a tribute to Keith Whitley after his death. It was not finished until after the death of his brother in which he added an additional verse to tie his brother into the song. Thus, making it a tribute to both.
it was played at my mom's funeral last year...made one of my friends break down and cry as it reminded him of it being played at his grandma's funeral 15 years earlier, and he was very close to her...and yeah, we're in TX

This song demonstrates the amazing power of music and lyrics, second to none! Several years ago a Vince G special was on TV and began to sob like a little baby at the mere THOUGHT of hearing the first note of this song, not having yet heard it. No song has ever moved me more!
I still cry every time I hear this! I don’t know of too many people that this wouldn’t affect. We’ve all lost someone and would love these words to send their precious souls to their next destination.❤️
I can't even imagine how hard it was for Vince Gill to write this song after his brother died. He must feel that grief again to some degree every time he sings it.
