I see people saying they do 12 instead of 14, dispite it having enough space for 14 (6 on each arm, 1 on each torso side) is there a reason most people stop at 12 instead of doing 14?

I did some quick/dirty testing and 12 Small X-Pulse Lasers did about 11.42% more DPS over a 30 second test period compared to 14 SXPs if you ran two extra double heat sinks instead of SXPs. That build also necessitated running a standard engine so you'd lose less cooling if you lost a side torso than you would using a light engine. Mind you I normally run 14 SXPs with a Tracking Computer II, Beagle Active Probe, and a woefully inadequate single jump jet for those times when I just gotta fall down and want to preserve a little leg armor because folks sure focus on the legs on my Crusader. With a Light Engine 300 and light ferro I can just barely fit all that in. Trying to fit in an extra two heat sinks would mean switching to a standard 300, removing the TC2 and BAP, and shaving off half a ton of armor. I'll freely state that my own experiences with 14 SXPs show the mech has a very hard time staying cool (you can overheat even while a cool shot is running post CS-nerf) without ducking and weaving, and as short as the ranges on SXPs are it's hard to break contact at times. At the same time point blank is often burst-or-be-bursted so sustained DPS over 30 second intervals isn't always a great metric, and if you don't (over)commit early you can fire on reduced or removed armor thereby allowing the TC2 to really chip in. Frankly it's probably six of one, half a dozen of the other in the long run, but I can see players preferring 12 with better heat management over 14 and going for bursty/critty combat.

The Thunderbolt 5SS with 7x Medium X-pulses and max size XL Engine with speed tweak is also a blast to play. I mean you could just use a smaller LFE engine instead like a normal person though.

Well that map is the best map (hottest) to heat scale test a build on.. And with a little trigger control it passes the test of being a big nasty beastie...
I slapped some Medium X Pulse on a crab... It'll take working together with teammates to make it worth it in most cases...and that means it's pretty meh in quickplay. Put two HAG30s on my Kodiak along with 2 heavy LLs and 2 ERMLs... Made me wish I just had ERPPCs instead. It's not worth pairing it with lasers when the longer ranged punch suffers for it. That said, running ERPPCs will feel weird with a slower projectile speed...might still be an okay build, though. Dunno if there's much more I can do with them, unless I were to run 4x HAG20s and just alternate firing them...That sounds like hell to manage target selection for, though, considering gauss charge. My favorite setup by far was putting two Binary lasers on my Hangover alongside three ER Medium Lasers. felt pretty okay. Had a blast playing that alongside the NGNG crew tonight!
My sound mod breaks the sound of X pulse so I dont hear them at all. Watching a few vids has made me realize how nice I have it. I would like to see them add a mechanic that the cooldown improves the longer you shoot,. It would ramp up like the RAC but in this case that would be a good thing.
The Stalker 4N also has the same IS Large Laser HSL +1 so you can fire 4 Binaries at once. Plus the arm mounts are higher (if you go 2 in each arm) so less body to expose.

I have only recently picked up Mercenaries 5(Played 2 - 4), and am soon going to get Online, and I noticed one thing being new to the online Battletech community, and that is, only cool ass folk play mechwarrior.
It's interesting that pulse lasers in MW4 worked exactly like X-Pulses in MWO, and actually slowest pulses in MW4 were the X-Pulses. I think it's neat how they are done in MWO, though i would like them more to just shoot one hitscAn beat instead of a "burning" one with low duration. But either way its cool.
@@ghoulbuster1 the Crusader 6T might be able to boat them properly, but light mechs don't really gain much benefit from a ton of facetime unless you are playing below Tier 3 lobbies. They seem a bit underwhelming in comparison to Blazers effectively being 2 LLs in one Energy Slot and HAGs being Clan MRMs that have actual accuracy.

I like the sound of the binary lasers. But the rounds have become way shorter. yeah patchday and so on. but i got killed within 4 secs with a full health atlas by 3 guys.

Someone needs to make a tie fighter laser sounds for them ,then it will be cool! pepega gaming industry is so lazy when it comes to sounds ,all of them sound lame without mods.They were to lazy and cheap to pay someone to do it properly as usually!

If you haven't tried it yet i wholeheartedly recommend the SR-4 with 4x C-H.A. Gauss 30. That crazy high burst damage is just simply disgusting. XD
I just did 12 Sm X-Pulse Lasers on a Crusader 6T. It was GLORIOUS! The heat isn't too bad, you may not have the fastest engine but it's good enough.

I put 8 on my PXH-1K, 4M 4S. Quick enough to run around and burn down mechs. Feels like an oversized pirahna.

You need to try the MAD-4A with 4 binary lasers it is hilariously good.

@@DarthTach 5 actually, the Blasers have a HSL of 3 off the rip, and both the HSL quirks stack.

I believe so. I know for sure that cool down skills and quirks work with it.

Imo no. The damage is not worth the heat they build up. Imo
god no they're really bad imo, better DPS but horrible peak damage, with even more heat than normal pulse.
Absolutely not. You have to rly stare down enemies w/ x-pulses, while normal pulses still have alpha potential.
