As a Jersey native I have to salute Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin for reaching those 2 finals with The Nets. I'm actually still pissed off at Byron Scott. The first finals against the Lakers the Nets had no chance, especially with Jason Collins guarding Shaq in the post. But the Nets could've beat the Spurs. The Nets had Dikembe Mutombo on the team, but Byron Scott had a personal issue with him and hardly played him.
So instead of putting 7'1 Mutombo who was a known shot blocker and very clumsy on Tim Duncan and keeping him on Duncan until Mutombo fouled out, Byron Scott had Kenyon and 6'9 Aaron Williams guarding Duncan. Duncan was abusing Aaron Williams in the post and Scott still refused to put Mutombo on him. That was one of the most boneheaded coaching decisions that I've ever seen. It also didn't help that Richard Jefferson was ice cold on many important possessions. Salute to Jason Kidd though. That Nets fast break from those 2 finals years was must see tv.

Obviously, Tim's supporting cast was much better than KG's outside of a couple years in Boston.
So, the quality help D for Tim was better and more prevalent.
But, KG vs Kenyon in 22 games went.
    KG 20.4/12.2/4.4
    Kenyon 15.0/6.7/1.7
And Tim vs Kenyon in 26 games went
    Tim 20.3/12.0/1.7
    Kenyon 10.8/6.2/1.6
So, I think that a large part of what Kenyon was feeling was that his and KG's DAWG mindset were similar, so he didn't have to go anywhere else in his head to play him. Just try to meet his DAWGedness.
While Tim's game plan and thought process was different, so it made him come out his A-typical shell. Which was harder.

Nope. Overall SKILL?! Nope, ever saw timmy as a point forward? Ever saw timmy lead the spurs in assist? NO. TD had the better career, but not skill. Go see your facts. TD had the better team and organization but KG was better with overall skill. But nonetheless TD is the best PF of all time.

lol, Duncan went 24, 17, 5, 5blks 50% fg in the 2003 finals.... Also, that was an overall looooow scoring series with probably a really low pace: Only 1 game had a team score over 100 points.
Whereas, Martin shot 34% from the field, rofl.

KG seemed to settle if not outright like the occasional 15foot baseline J. Timmy wasn't shooting that if he could help it. He wanted that banker and he was gonna get that banker. Self-confidence and pride vs. efficiency. I'm sure Duncan had similar pride in his ability and skillset but I'd suggest he had more restraint and control.
