Crowd Crush was happening. Everyone crushing people against the front gates and pretty much suffocating them. Thats why you see security pulling them over the gates. Ive been crowd crushed before and it sucks. Feels like you got a car on you.

There were lots of people stuck. I helped a girl who was in a similar sit as you - on the ground and hyperventilating with fear. Pushed a way out to the front for her. I can still feel the pressure of the crowd.
I was part of the BDO touring security team and up front on this one. I've never felt temperatures so hot and stifling. It was terrifying for me let alone the poor people we were dragging from the bottom of the crush.

No .. wasn't fighting like that. There was a big crush and people were freaking out. ALso some at the front didn't appreciate the guards efforts to drag them out. At one point Anthony is actually telling the security guys to chill out and not get too rough. The deal was if you got pulled out theyd take you out to the side and put you outside the main area - sensible but not appreciated by some.
Should've been a huge mosh pit. More people get hurt when zombies push to be closer to their idols. Dance and have a good time. Who the fuck cares if they're 10-20 feet closer to their idols. Get a pit started. Sooner or later you can get close to 'front row' if that's all people about.
I was at this concert and remember this very well as we’d been up front for the Foo Fighters and it was quite chilled. Then NIN came on (but on the other stage as BDO had the twin stages) and it got quite tight so once RHCP came on as the head liners everyone rushed the pit. We were kind of stuck mid front and you just had to go with it as it was too crammed to get out. They don’t show it in the clip but Anthony walked off for a bit as he was obv pissed at not getting through to everyone (including security). It mellowed a lot after that so we were able to move back where there was more room to have a bit of a dance. Security was a bit OTT that day as I remember the drummer from Spiderbait jumped off the stage and into the crowd and got halted by security when he first tried to get back on stage! Aside from the crush, which Anthony handled brilliantly, it was one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to. Can’t believe it’s 21 years ago. I’d do it again tomorrow if I had the energy!! 😍😈🕺
I think this is good evidence that musicians can see the crowd from the stage and that a show can be stopped to keep people safe. What happened here? The crowd was getting hectic and the band stopped playing for about five minutes. What happened in Texas? Travis Scott and company saw and probably heard people in distress and ignored them. Camera operators were told about kids dying and did nothing about it. How long would that show have to be stopped for? I don't know how big either crowd was, but maybe 10 minutes? 30? An hour? The band did really well here. Travis and Aubrey are pretty despicable for ignoring all those in danger at their show.

The peppers really handled the situation very well. Unlike Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit a couple of days later, at the same festival. He called the security bullshit, and a girl even died there... Big respect to Anthony for handling this like a champion with his nice white hair. "dont get mean, get nice" ✌🏼

@Theresa L. Dowling This isolated thread is not about Anthony Kiedis!! To answer your comment. You dont know Johns or any of the other bandmembers's personal opinion on what AK did, so you cant automatically call him/them enablers.
I saw RHCP at their next stop on this tour at the Melbourne BDO. They played a very subdued show as I recall, they could have been playing in front of a mirror for all the emotion they showed. I wonder in hindsight if events in Sydney may have lead to them playing in a more low key manner for the rest of the festival shows.
I respect the shit out of Anthony and always have. This just reinforces it. I can't stand people that belittle keidis. Dudes an amazing guy and one of the best front men of all time in my opinion
I was front row at 06 Lolla during the RHCP, waited there the entire day. I made it halfway through their set before I blacked out from dehydration and lack of air. Luckily a security member was there to pull me out. I woke up on the grass to the left of the stage, my pants, shirt and shoes were nowhere to be found. What an awesome night.
easily one of the best videos on the site. Anthony's commentary, half the crowd singing the chorus while the other half beats the shit out of each other, the song choice at a moment like that, John's teasing, "push me up against the wall", the list goes on LMAO
This is why theyre my favorite band they actually care about the well being of their fans some bands would probably try to boost the crowd up or whatever but Anthony really tried the best he could

I wish Travis Scott would of acted like this. Lives could of been saved.
It's a blessing that no one got killed that year at Big Day Out.
stratmad they said 9 are dead..
"Sounds better at the back, is what i hear, better at the back somewhere" Anthony using some humour to calm an audience, he truly is the peacemaker :D
The peppers really handled the situation very well. Unlike Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit a couple of days later, at the same festival. He called the security bullshit, and a girl even died there... Big respect to Anthony for handling this like a champion with his nice white hair. "dont get mean, get nice" ✌🏼
john told Anthony I can't play in this shit atmosphere I bet ,Legend's
While I'm not a fan of Anthony Kiedis as a vocalist, , I have total respect for the way he handled this situation.
Yeah honestly he's hit or miss live and most of the times not that great but his manners are always perfect specially in emergency situations
travis scott was the exact opposite of this gem of a human.
Antoine the swans peaceful af
Jezus Krist
Travis Scott should have watched this.
Fr
Honest moment. I hate it when people compare John Frusciante to Jesus. I mean, he's great and all, but he's no John Frusciante.
..that's the mos blasphemous thing I've read all morning. 🗞
i see what you did there andd i like it!
JAJAJKA
Jajaja good one!!
anthony kiedis said that :)
Clearly no lessons were learned here. Nine dead at a Pearl Jam show just 5 months later in Denmark.
Fuck it.
And a girl crushed to death watching limp bizkit at the sand festival like a year later I think
“Same
How this is possible awful. What music can do with People. Some get Drunk so this is how it looks like then. It should be like with Kids now everyone step back 1,2,3 and another.
I'm sorry, but have to ask an obvious question. HOW does one dIE! at a Pearl Jam show???
frusciante is smoking hot!!!!!!
Ellen kosmo yes.
Ellen kosmo te amo
@Theresa L. Dowling
Why are you posting this link on a thread about John??
To the ts: agreed!!
@Theresa L. Dowling
This isolated thread is not about Anthony Kiedis!!
To answer your comment. You dont know Johns or any of the other bandmembers's personal opinion on what AK did, so you cant automatically call him/them enablers.
😍❤❤❤👏
2:52 "With the birds I'll shaaaaaaaaare... Maybe not..." XDDDDDD
2:54 Chad still playing softly, completely on beat with the crowd's singing. Hell yeah.
Anthony: drinks tea casually*
Crowd: shouts*
I respect the shit out of Anthony and always have. This just reinforces it. I can't stand people that belittle keidis. Dudes an amazing guy and one of the best front men of all time in my opinion
Don't make it worse make it better. don't get mean get nice.
The algorithm never fails with the timing 😕
I was front row at 06 Lolla during the RHCP, waited there the entire day. I made it halfway through their set before I blacked out from dehydration and lack of air. Luckily a security member was there to pull me out. I woke up on the grass to the left of the stage, my pants, shirt and shoes were nowhere to be found. What an awesome night.
went back here after the astroworld incident. travis couldve done something
John is back
😭❤️❤️😭❤️😭❤️😭❤️😭❤️
Concerts do sound better at the back. 👍 🌟
3:56 save my son!
wow thats insane
😲 horror ...
It's like every time they do the solo. It gets better and better each time
John looks so much like Christian Bale here
“Who the fuck came here to fight anyways” I’ve always loved and respected RHCP!
easily one of the best videos on the site. Anthony's commentary, half the crowd singing the chorus while the other half beats the shit out of each other, the song choice at a moment like that, John's teasing, "push me up against the wall", the list goes on LMAO
Only just found this video, what a man, what a band
loved when audience starts singing
"With birds i'll share this lonely view" when they stop
This is why theyre my favorite band they actually care about the well being of their fans some bands would probably try to boost the crowd up or whatever but Anthony really tried the best he could
I was there 19 years ago! the exact same thing happened that day when blink 182 came on stage. That was SO scary. insane lineup that day. BLINK 182, CHILLI PEPPERS, BASMENT JAX, CHEMICAL BROTHERS, NINE INCH NAILS, FOO FIGHTERS. all in one day!! that was one crazy concert!!
Rohan James his back !!! The main man
@@charliefox6987 what??
They should have busted out Porcelain. Instant chill....
Good guy Anthony. Just like the time MCR were in Aus and they stopped in the middle of a song because Gerard (the lead singer) pointed out a girl who he saw fell and was getting crushed.
I love when Anthony hugs John to review the situation before they start the song.
Wow. Anthony is great. I remember Woodstock 99 when he tried to calm the situation too. He's a good man
"This is not the Australian Open, please"
Anthony Keidis is so great in this 😂
Travis Scott brought me back to this, j love how Anthony and John tease the crowd wkth scar tissue, and they force thousands of people too all simultaneously surrender together because they all want too hear the music.
Brings "Push you up against the wall" to a whole nother level
Glad John is back. He definitely belongs in that band and that band only
"Sounds better in the back", yeah that drfinetly worth a shot
Honestly it usually does sound better a ways back from the stage
Damn he sounds so Good live 💗
Don’t make it worse
Make it better
I think that is a good motto for all of us to live our life by
Travis should watch this video
What a great band. John is the legend!
Pulling passed out people from the crowd like it's some sort of harvest. Crazy.
I born in 2000. 20 years after here I'm looking for rhcp past.
