I set my reg at 2200 psi and I use NSA 20.1 gr -.2165 dia slugs, AVS slugs in .216 and .2165 up to 25 grain down to 17.5 grain, FX slugs, and 18.13 and heavier pellets without any issues in accuracy. I adjust my speed with the hammer spring and no need to touch the reg. I don’t know how Nova Vista does it but from my NV Liberty/Alpha to my Avengers both long and bullpup in .22 and .25 calibers hold their own with my high end guns out to 100 yards. Maybe I hit the barrel lottery every time. Or maybe they have a good idea how to make ammo friendly barrels.🤷♂️💯 These barrels like .216-.2165 the best from my experience after 4 years with NV barrels. I hope this information will be of use to you Gert. God bless and stay well.
I can second that on the 0.2160” diameter being ideal in an avenger barrel. Most slugs I’ve bought are a little smaller diameter, 0.005”, than what’s listed on the box, except for the FX hybrids. If it says 0.2170”, then it is exactly that. I’ve had great groups with pellets, of course, but the NSA 17.5 and 23 gr 0.2160 slugs did the best. My calipers measure them as 0.2155”-0.2160”.
Nice video, love the fact that you tried to get slugs to group, when all along the JSB 15.89 worked out to 1000 fps. Wonder what heavier pellets would do through this rifle?
Try jsb knockouts. And funny because both my avenger bullpup and long rifle are not at all ammo fussy. By the way nice video... its all about trial and error. As ive found out many times. And dont be afraid to try other brands of slugs... impulse air and zan Projectiles are flat out awesome. But keep up the good work.
Nice video Gert and I really enjoyed your conclusion, after 4hrs of faffing around why not just stick to pellets, great groups, better shot count and what more do you need. The pellets at 1000fps didn't group badly, that was surprising
I enjoy your work on the videos. I'm pulling my hair out trying to find a .25 cal slug my fx maverick likes. It's definately a lot of trial and error. Glad to see I'm not the lone ranger on this.
@@heithwatkins yes and no, the majority are doing exactly what you're saying. Hi Gert, thanks for the video. I used to get good accuracy with the 23gr Javelins and H&N 21grs with my Avenger (rifle) at around 820 fps. It's been a while, but IIRC, that was with reg at 140 or less. Took quite a bit of tuning to find the right balance between reg and hammer spring.
Great video Gert! I've been having GREAT results with the Nova Vista Behemoth/Air Venturi Avenger shooting the Nielsen 17,5 grain .2175 slugs. Like sub 1/2 inch at 50 meters great. Reg at 2700 psi/186 bar, hammerspring maxed out, speed ends up at around 935 fps/285 m/s. Speed stays very consistent as well. I tried various other lighter slugs of around 21 grain, but it just doesn't get them up to speed. It liked almost all the pellets I threw at it, but it really loves the JSB 18,13 grain, and the Snowpeak 21 grain , even out to 100 meters. Do keep them video's coming please!
Wow that is very high on the regulator. Unfortunately the Nielsen slugs are rediculously expensive in South Africa, almost 300% more expensive, thus not a viable option, not even to test as the price doesn't warrent it. @@AimSmall Thanks for the reply Gert. But strange that the NSA's are that expensive in SA, here in the Netherlands you get a box of 400 17.5 grain NSA slugs for 22 Euro's, about 390 Rand.
