John Major owes this man a lot for saving him 27 years ago. MP's were plotting to remove John Major until they received a call from him begging for help and support. It turned out it was Rory Bremner who had phoned all these MP's doing the impression and they all thought it was really John Major so decided to back off from their plot.
With all his faults, Major is the only living PM I think it would be pleasant to be around, perhaps with a pint of real ale. Bremner's interpretation of him is epic.
He actually did buy me a pint once. I was in a Fleet Street pub, and looked across, obviously knowing that I'd recognised the PM. He just beckoned me over and we had a chat - just like a typical pub encounter with anyone - except that he was PM!
An excellent impression of the 'grey man'. The only reason he became Prime Minister was that Lady Thatcher made him her protege`- and she did that without realising that he was very far to her political left,
