    Steve, wonder if alittle bit of pipe dope coating on top gasket flange would helped bring together alittle easier!

    One of the connections with the wire nuts just fell apart,maybe that was why the fuse was blowing,bad connection??. Taco,made in Cranston R.I.,LITTLE RHODEY🎉

    This is very real life. Things often turn out to be tight and difficult and it's nice to see how it really is. Question is, what happens when the pipes expand when they are hot? Might it crack a solder joint due to the high stress?

    That old circulator was blowing fuses because the starter switch in back of the motor was not working, usually because of over oiling and it was full of oil. So, it's good that you replaced the whole thing otherwise if you just replaced the bearing assembly you would have still had the problem.

    Instead of using those old style large area somewhat hard flat gaskets and doing the double gasket trick, you could use the gaskets that came with the circulator, which have less width and more height and are softer, and sit in the machined groove in the circulator flange. The new style gaskets will seal better against the corroded surface of the pipe flange. Once tightened, the metal of the pipe flange will also come cloesr to touching the metal of the circulator flange. So it will also fit better.

    Hindsight is 20/20, but you could have considered sweating in a slip coupling above the new circulator to make it easier for you.

      I own a grunfoss one dated 1981. I think they've been out for a while lol.
      Here in Germany they are banning the low efficiency circulators, because landlords don't swap them for high efficiency ones and just bill renters for the power they consume. The high efficiency ones pay for themselfs in power savings multiple times over their lifespan.

    Steve: At 13:48 of this ovie you are installing the replacement circulator pump. I see that the labels are differently placed on the two pumps, leading me to believe that one is pumping up while the other is pumping down. Am I correct in this guess, or what is going on that I don't understand.

    • @jeromewhelan6723
      @jeromewhelan6723 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OK, about 20:00, where you have removed the motor and impeller, I see that the pumping direction is "down", or return, so I'm OK. I didn't realize you could just rotate the motor/impeller assembly arounud on the pump body.

    Recently, my mother’s boiler pump got a small leak from the bearing housing. Old Bell and Gossett. Took a picture of the pump plate and sent it to a comp specializing in those pumps. Damn thing was built in July of 1947!! Original Burnham holiday boiler and pump. Still trucking. lol.

    You should put jump drives instead of yellow cards and spray paint them yellow and right on them don't remove no more righting and much more room for information 😊 PS attach it to a empty yellow card and all other repairmen will have to plug in with their phone or tablet.

    Question: Why double gasket the bottom instead of scraping it off and only using one gasket on the bottom?

    • @biker55555
      @biker55555 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The single gasket isn't thick enough to fill in all the imperfections in the bottom flange. So instead of creating more work by changing the bottom flange, he simply doubled up on the gasket thickness. He mentioned the bottom flange being very crusty (not perfectly flat) several times.
