Barred Owls are my favorite species of owl. We have one or two that live in the hollow on our property. I've never seen them, but I always hear them. Their call is so lovely.
Hi Christian, it's so wonderful that you got your first photos and videos of an owl. They are so exciting to see and spend time with. 🙂 Good luck with future Owl encounters, Rudy
Nice video, Rudy. I live in Ottawa too and have photographed a similar Barred Owl a couple of times in the past month. Always a great experience!. Sammy is a lot more talkative though.
I wonder if Sammy is attempting to be polite, even respectful to you, by not staring at you but showing you trust by turning his back. This might be his way of cautiously saying "I know you, you are ok".
I think you might be correct in this assessment. He certainly does not in any way seem to be fearful, threatened or aggressive. I have had other encounters with him where he has shown the same, calm relaxed behaviour.
Beautiful
Thanks vry much, Lucky!
Cheers,
Rudy 😀
