    I sure as hell hope that was ran through a proper cam break in let alone the pistons and rings. Sounds good but hitting that high of rmp's on a fresh rebuild or freshen up which ever is very shacky grounds to me.

    Sounds great... do not rev a fresh rebuild like that. You'll overheat the rings. Look, the crosshatch breaks them in, there is tremendous friction and heat on the rings on first startup. Vary the engine speed, plus the engine has to warm up so the piston skirts make full contact. The pistons remain out of round (all pistons are cam ground) in that setup 'cause the cold water keeps the engine too cool. The skirts make min contact and get torn up. (Damn you're doing yourself a disfavor after all the fine work and money into the engine) High idle it for 30 min, vary the speed, do not idle, coolant in the engine, thermostat in. It's gotta warm up to operating temp during initial break in and always. One or two revs is ok, (actually beneficial) but do not keep revving like that... that poor engine!

    The Chrysler 318 bore and stroke is so close to a small block Chevy 307 everyone puts down a 307 it wasn't made for performance but you can make it run.

      you gotta bump up compression on a 5.2 to ge hp or add turbocharger porting and unshrouding thows intake values is gonna be the first thing i would do to a 318 with higher comp and stock head. magnum will suport around 450hp with higher comp i would think that alot of the 340 360 stuff should bolt right on to

    Cam, compression ratio, , intake, cfm carb... please, gimme some info! I'm building myself one 318 bored to 328 (.06"). Thank you!
    Planning a RPM Air Gap, Holley 600 cfm vacuum secondary, Comp Cam XE268H complete kit with valve springs ans stuff, 9.8:1 compression ratio, Summit 'block hugger' shorty headers, Milodon bigger valves (2.02"/1.6" intake/exhaust), stock heads slightly modded, port match intake heads, 2.5 inch exhaust. Please let me know what do you have in yours and think about mine.

  • @Maverick_Van_Traveller

    Damn, was that 6,500 rpm from a 318? Sounds incredible. Planning a similar build for the 318 in my '83 Dodge van, using the same Summit cam for low-rpm torque.

    • @race-all
      @race-all 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It revs like that because there's no load & open headers.

    • @frigglebiscuit7484
      @frigglebiscuit7484 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@race-all that has nothing to do with it. trans is hooked up, and exhaust is not going to affect the revving. 318s are short stroke with a light rotating assembly.

  • @leafaRPD
    @leafaRPD 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was expecting your engine's specs, but you answered that for the other one. Thanks anyway!
    I'm sorry but... are you sure this is your camshaft? It sound's really meaner than this. I mean, I thought about a Comp Cams XE268H, which is a lot more wild than yours.
    Now I'm really thinking about a Summit camshaft...
