  • John from www.growingyourgreens.com/ visits a gardener who barely works in his garden nowadays yets has tons of food to eat in Las Vegas, Nevada right off the Las Vegas Strip. Las Vegas is one of the most difficult places in the United States to grow food due to its extreme climate.
In this episode, you will learn how you can grow an enormous garden with very little work.
First, John will give you a tour of the little work garden at a mobile home part, so you can learn about the specific plants that can easily grow with very little input on your end. You will learn about perennial vegetables and annual vegetables that will readily re-seed on their own, so they plant themselves, so you don't have to.
Next, you will learn how you need to set up your garden so that it can work without you. You will learn many of the different elements that are required to grow food without you having to show up and tend to your garden every day.
You will learn how having a microgreens business helped him to make his little-work garden a reality by mulching with the flats of his microgreens after harvest to put coconut coir and some ungerminated seeds into his garden.
Finally, John will interview El Toro Loco to learn more about his secrets to having an abundant garden with very little work.
After watching this episode, you will learn how you can grow lots of food in a small space with very little work.

@The Butcher don't rely on others or the system to take care of you. We should take care of ourselves - it's our personal responsibility to. Only what we can't do ourselves should we rely on the gov't for, and even then we should try to avoid relying on them as little as possible.

I’ve learned so much and my garden is loving John Kohler. My pocket book loves him too. I’m not spending money on things that don’t work and my yield/harvest has doubled. Thank you John. Appreciate you!

Love how he uses trees, wood fence, concrete wall, lattice, and the tall building to create a cool shaded diffused sunshine environment protecting all of those tender plants from the same bright white hot sunshine & late day heat that we suffer from in Orlando, FL! The different types of containers using steel girder, plastic pallets, wood boards, compost mulch really do a lot to also protect the roots from any hot nutrient-poor dirt, sand, or rocky soil and plant-eating ants, nematodes, grubs, pocket-gophers, etc...also a problem in Orlando, FL. Thank You Guys!

Ok, props to the guy for what he does. To the trading and knowledge he has gained in the years he has been focusing on health and healing from the natural abundance of the land. The last 5 minutes was at once a little painful, yet extremely amusing to watch all of the textbook psychological maneuvers that we have been taught as social creatures to fall absolutely into the abyss.
What I have come to realize today.... I was today years old when I realized.... that no social stroking or behavior mirroring or language mimicking works on John. It just doesn’t. The patience that John showed while all the attempts fell flat was absolutely outstanding. I hope the guy goes on to do very well for himself. John will not notice either way, because he is a terrarium of his own genious.

I am in the process of converting my drip system from using 1/2 in poly tubing with the emitters in the tubing to 1/2 in poly where I place the adjustable emitters. That way you have control of how much water is placed in a specific place. Really important in the desert. The proof is in this man's beautiful full garden. Those plants are so healthy!

I’d imagine the secret to this is the right soil, since everything is in a container it doesn’t have to deal with the desert soil at all. And of course the extreme sun is counteracted by the tree shade.

you know whats an interesting feeling? Until last year, Ive never known what a plant is by looking at it... sure, of course I know general things like a rhododendron or rose bush etc. However, greens all looked "the same." After two seasons, I watch a video like this, and before he says it, I will look at a plant (and if i grew it), I will be like, "hey.. that looks like xy or z"... and then when im right??.. it's a kinda cool feeling. :) When i saw the russian red, i guessed it. It's weird, the baker creek seed package shows the russian red as like purple... but mine look green like this guys. I have been org-fert'ing every other week.. so im not over or under doing it with nutrients, but... I wonder if they need more phosphorus?

Any thoughts on Dr. Tim LaSalle approach of increasing soil microbial diversity using the David Johnson-Su compost making method? He explains "The Wonderment of BEAM" in the video 'OC CRFG May 2021 General Meeting'.
For example, on the Chico University page "How to Build Your Own Bioreactor", it seems to follow the Allan Savory grazing ted talk.
BTW, I also recommend the University of Oxford page "Is grass-fed beef good or bad for the climate?"

    • @juneramirez8580
      @juneramirez8580 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I have found that pest predators come into my garden and for the most part take care of the pests. Found a tiny black and red ladybug eating the aphids on the milkweed. The milkweed attracted hundreds of aphids but kept them away from the veggies. Praying mantis also eats insects. You can buy egg clusters to put in your garden. Found predatory wasps also in my garden. Just realized not all bugs are actual pests. Hand pick what you can. There are recipes of soap sprays you can also use. But you do need insects to pollinate your garden. And just grow extra to share with the pests that survive.

This was great. The only unfortunate thing (and very UNNATURAL thing) is that he relies on municipal water for watering the garden. Please try to find people using dry farming methods or simply harvesting rainwater that do not use automatic irrigation systems. THAT should be the goal- emulating the way NATURE does it and not having to be dependent on BIG BUSINESS/utilities or Uncle S in any way shape or form.
