Tab Baldwin has been around for quite a while, different country and different league... he knows what the national team needs to do to compete on any international tournaments. Meanwhile the Pba is stuck in the 90's, the mindset of Pba coaches are just good for Pba, they can't understand how to compete outside the Philippines. Tab Baldwin is the best coach for the national team, he can develop the young ones and change the culture and mindset of the whole nation. i am hoping that every basketball coaches on any league, school, regional, city competition should have the same thinking as Tab. we should change the whole culture and politics in basketball.

Wala tayong magagawa ksi si chot reyes masyadong malakas kay pangilinan, si pangilinan yta ksi ang mas malaki ang investment na ibinibigay para sa national team. Ang nakaka bwisit jan is nag excuse sya na di makaka pag coach february because his players are not available, solutions ginawa ng SBP? REMOVED him as coach instead of lobbying for the players he wanted. That's what fcking Management should do, fix the structure of the program.

Marami akong napanood na ADMU games incuding vs UE or Adamson kung saan walang tao sa arena at kitang-kita mo ang laro at naririnig mo ang communication ng players sa court. Ganda ng disiplina ng Eagles under Tab. Maganda sana if mahayaang mag-develop ng team si Tab.
Nung nagka-corporate job na ako, nag-talk minsan si Chot Reyes about leadership and management sa company namin. Parang puro lang galing sa morning texts or Instagram quotes yung mga advice niya. Coach Tab is the best coach for the ph dreamteam, and thats undeniable. The SBP should grow and be more competent on it's duties and stop politicizing for the good of ph basketball. Lots of talents are already available and the SBP shouldn't waste this golden opportunity. This is make or break time for ph basketball!

There is much to be said about this issue. We have all heard from a host of people (SBP, Coach Chot, etc.) re the reasons for Coach Tab leaving the Gilas program. However, have we heard anything from Coach Tab himself? I don’t think Coach Tab is the kind of guy to leave something he started and showed so much promise for the flimsy excuse of focusing on just one collegiate program. (Which he was already doing simultaneously) We each have our suspicions on the real reasons for this but as we have no factual evidence, that’s all they will remain to be, suspicions. One thing that hurts for the countless Filipinos who support the Philippine team aka Gilas is the loss of a coherent and practical program that had already produced surprising results in the short term. Growth was visible individually and as a team. Everyone was excited for the next steps in the process. Beating Korea not once but twice was a distinct marker for the possibilities in the future for Philippine basketball. Maybe it was politics or simply the egos of some powerful personalities in local hoopdom but this certainly looks and feels like another step back from the improvements we have all seen. Statements like “Korea did not send their A Team in the last window” made by some people have seemed to be preparing and conditioning us the fans to expect losing to Korea in the coming window. I lament the state of our basketball program. Subject to the whims and caprices of the winds of politics. But, as we’re not the ones with the power, we can only stand by, hope and pray for the best.

Coach tab focuses on international competition but coach chot is on pba and its system, kaya talo kasi hindi focus sa national team, dahil sumisingit sa pba focus, dapat focus lang sa international nilalagay sa national team tapos paglaruin sa international invitational tulad ng ginawa ni coach tab, kaya lang binuwag ng SBP at nawala si coach tab, napulitika na naman SBP dahil si manny pangilinan ang isa sa namumuno rito at nakita na naman ang favorite nyang si chot na nagbalik sa coaching at sa tnt pa. Kaya ayun, napulitika na naman, sayang lang coach tab, basura na naman gilas nito.

Do not blame Chot Reyes only. It is the SBP and the PBA. Remember the Gilas Cadet program- kailangan mag sign sa PBA para maimbitahan ang player to be part ng Gilas. Eh ang PBA depends on the caliber of Gilas cadet players, otherwise mawawala na ang marketing appeal ng PBA. Professional basket league in the Philippines is the "big" problem to amateur basketball. Putragis, Senate investigated it/them- no positive result-politics and corruption. Take a look at Will Navarro, and they do not want him to play overseas. The remnants of Tab Baldwin players go overseas--kaya they unceremoniously remove him from being director and coach. Yong prospective first round draftee are all Gilas cadet, at karamihan ay nasa JB league or KBL. PBA tickets sales are dropping. Then kailangan ng mga players ng Gilas program ng allowances to practice and for a living. It is all over! It is obvious. Noon malaman natin we will be hosting Work Cup, dapat that early we made plans and have created the 24 player pool. Put them in the bubbles early on immediately when there was easing down of travel restrictions.

Kaya ito balik na naman tayu sa ibaba, ang walang katapusang cycle of rebuilding! Kung tutuusin maganda na ang naging plataporma ni coach Tab! Marami tayung mga batang manlalaro na may ibubuga talaga sa internasyonal at uhaw sa eksperyensa... Kaya lang ibinalik si chot pati ang plataporma binago!

How much "continuity" are we talking about here? If we're talking likes of Isaac Go, Mike Nieto, Bellangel, yes, they may have been in the program for years, but, are they really world cup prospects? For me, definitely not.
So, which real prospects from tab's "cadets program" have really been there for quite a while? First to come to mind is Justin Baltazar. Tab did a great job on him transforming him into a wing player, no question about that. Next would be Kouame. But, to me, he's still a big question mark. If he later on gets recognised as a local (something that's actually possible), then i can say he's another key piece from Tab's "long term" program. But, if not, then he'll be contending for the lone naturalized player spot and, to me, skill-wise, he's very very raw. Next to come to mind are Dwight Ramos and Carl Tamayo but, they're quite recent additions to tab's pool and were actually original members of Chot's 23 for 2023. Kai Sotto was very key to our fine performances in the two most recent fiba tournaments but, kai is a product of something else. He even only had a few practices with the team prior to the FiBA asian Qualifiers.
The rest, are either just fillers (Go, Nieto etc) or lost to competitions namely the overseas league's and our very own PBA (Heading, Oftana)
I myself was taken aback by the suden departure of Tab but, it is what it is. It was supposed to be a very good program but, as always, the ideal rarely happens. It's just very hard to sustain. It requires so much money to keep the good ones on the program, also, COVID happened. See, except for those 2 recent Fiba tournaments, what tournaments have we had? I think the solution is to keep a 12 man seniors core of PBA guys with international experience and keep another 15 to 20 non-pba guys. Have them play one system that can be implemented by any coach.
This way regardless of who is available to play they have familiarity of the system.

Maraming factors ang dapat I consider sa development.Tulad nung Gilas 1, dapat talaga e yung best mix of players kasama pati at least 1 month preparation.tulad rin nung 2014 fiba Asia championship, Maganda yung preparation pero kinulang tayo kasi wala si Junmar,Japeth,Lassiter, Clarkson at Lee. Sakin talaga best preparation with the best players tapos continuous na lang yung Pag kuha sa mga batang players na May pinaka magandang potential at of course dapat magaling yung coach,staff at scouting.
Sports politics is the reason why successful sports program doesn't progress and maintained in the philippines. When will the officials do effective in their jobs and leave the qualified coaches and players do what they do best.
Ctab reason for resignation is vague or shall I say too shallow. The imbedded crab mentality on SBP officials & their politics on club owner ruined the program. plus factor of some inmature Ph basketball coaches. Their pride is more important than the success of the program. They can easily say na kaya din namin yan, bakit aasa sa foreign coach, they can't accept the fact words from the mouth of Ctab. The officials can easily shrug off the voice of the fans but they can't do a good program without Ctab. Gilas is battled in a long time disease when they discover on how to cure they simply denied on it.

And he was making incredible progress heading for 2023. And just like that it burned down bc of politics. The gilas he built was youthful, fluid, and most importantly, respected. We were competitive at most and were pushing teams to their limits and just like that wala na ang progress. As a kid that watched gilas all throughout my life, this is really heartbreaking. This will forever be my "what could've been".

Maski naman ako kung player ako i would go outside for my devlopment and better salary at dahil alam ko how bullshit ang politics ng basketball dito. Think of it as a mini boycott ng players and fans sa pba kasi nakaka suka na.

Mas makakabuti nga mga international league experience for gilas eh. Pero bakit inalis si coach tab nung nagsialisan mgaplayer niya for japan? Kasi di nakikinabang ang PBA.

Isang malaking kalokohan na gusto na lang ni Coach Tab magfocus sa Ateneo campaign. Yes, nagkaroon ng exodus ang mga young Gilas prospect natin to be overseas players. Yes, na-real talk ni Coach Tab ang system ng PHI coaches. But hindi maikakaila na si Coach Tab talaga ang may matinong system to run a team, a possible upset for Euro teams. Yun nga, nakaka-frustrate na we will be back to zero (at the minimum) kung kailan crucial na ang preparation for WC hosting.
By the way, sobrang hanga ako kina Robert Bolick, Dwight Ramos and Thirdy Ravena to chose to play for the country to pause their career paths.
