- Bireli Lagrene is one of the most accomplished jazz guitarists active today. His career, which started around the age of 10, has included performances with some of the world’s top musicians. He has shared the stage with fusion guitarist Larry Coryell, fretless bass pioneer Jaco Pastorius, and accordion virtuoso Richard Galliano. Biréli is a master of numerous styles including bebop, fusion, and swing. He is also a multi instrumentalist with phenomenal skill on guitar (electric and acoustic), electric bass, and drums.
However, Bireli’s musical roots lie in the music of Django Reinhardt. Like most Sinti children, he was immersed in Django’s music from a very young age. While growing up in the Gypsy camps of the Alsace region of Eastern France, he developed incredible technical and improvisational skill. His talent was quickly recognized, resulting in performances across Europe as a young as age 10.

Bireli est deja un des plus grand guitariste du monde, mais il est le seul bassiste à jouer "comme Jaco", c'est un incroyable violoniste et je découvre dans ce docu qu'il chante presque comme Sinatra. Sidérant.

37 years ago my girlfriend gave me Inferno, after going to the local record store in Washington DC. It was recommended by a sales associate. I've always loved that album and still play it to this day. And then there are his collaboration (s?) With Richard Galliano. Stupendous!!! Anyway, after all these years, I finally get to see Bireli at the Iridium in less than a week. Thrilled to say the least. I don't understand anything in French more that please & thank you, but this video was incredible. This man is an artist extraordinaire. A hidden gem.
Ce qui me surprend le plus dans ce reportage, car j'ai déjà beaucoup entendu son talent guitaristique, c'est qu'il a une très belle voix quand il reprend Sinatra..., il devrait en faire d'avantage avec le chant ! Si tu me lis Bireli... ;-)
Le hasard des algorithmes fait que l on tombe parfois sur de magnifiques documentaires comme celui-là. Très peu vu finalement et très peu liker super intéressant. Mis à part le talent de Birelli c'est très touchant de voir l artiste, simple et humain. Merci.

I heard him one day and have been trying to tell the world what they are missing. Django was the only other guitarist that freaked me. Im 40 years old. I dont want to offend anyone but I never considered people like this guitarists. Just like Kath and Emanuel they are fully formed musicians. When you play like that you have actually transcended the guitar. Its talking to you. Its beautiful.😍
