    Well done Jimmy. I love the way you are so normal with no pretensions. Hiding your mess and then showing it to us is an example.

    Pro, 😂 my rear end 😆! Velcro has hooks and loops!

    Jimmy! SO CLOSE???
    For later 411. The "fuzzy side" of Velcro is called the "Loop". While the sticky side is the "Hook".
    In fact, as your episodes go World Wide, Velcro is a brand name for the most part in the U.S.A. In other countries the system is called (Ta-Dah) Hook & Loop binding.
    Otherwise a "memorable" episode. If ever I need a shot of the "Backside of the Moon," I know who to call.🤣
    OH! One additional thing. When it comes time to paint your fascia board confided this. Painting a continuation of your scenery detail down the front. It will give occasional users a deeper depth of field. And Pee-Wee's will giggle at the "land stuff" coming down to where they can see it.
    Love to your beautiful bride. Extra cuddles to the TWIN DIY BABES.
    Grumpy Jim

    Hi Jimmy, fascia and curtains make the layout look much more complete! Looks great!

    Fascia and curtains make a BIG difference. I used the hardboard that was white on one side and for my curtains, I used landscape cloth (for weed control), which I attached to the back of the fascia with clothespins that are hot glued in place.

      Did the same thing but used both hot glue and yellow carpenters glue to hold clothes pins. Granted Velcro is nice but way more expensive.

    I think it’s worth doing as soon as the point at which fascia installation is feasible. Tidy things up and just makes working around the layout just more enjoyable.

    Fantastic! Looks great and will use the curtain idea on my layout.
    I use a straight edge clamped at either end of sheet material to get a perfect straight cut.

    Great work Jimmy. Will definitely be following that when I get the chance. Stay safe, see you later. Jim L

    I used landscape fabric for the skirting.

    This is definitely on my to do list. I actually bought a 4x8 sheet from Home Depot and had them rip the boards for me. Keep in mind that each cut, your loosing 1/8" from that saw blade. Our H.D. will rip anything down to 12" minimum. That saves a lot of time trying to do it yourself and it's a FREE service they provide. I am sure Lowe's is the same way. Once mine are installed, I plan to paint mine black as that wont be an eye catcher but should make the switching diagrams more noticeable. - Jason

    One suggestion would be to curve your corners. You can wet the hard board thoroughly to make it curve to very a tight radius.

    So not that it really matters but "Velcro" is actually a brand name, and the product is called "hook and loop". So the rough side is the "hook" and the soft side is the "loop"....the more you know!!! Love your videos btw. New to all this and they are helping me out so much!

    I enjoyed the video even though I won't be using facia, (built on cabinates).
    Drinking: "San Francisco Bay' K-Cup coffee. Expensive but the pod is 'compostable'.

    I need to do this on my HCD layout. That's the only way that I can see to mount the plugs for my DCC system.

    Can you still work on the underside of your layout if you need to?
    Looks nice!

      @DIYDigitalRailroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! The panels do not get in the way and are fairly easy to get off if I need to.

    I use the same hardboard it's $11 for a 4x8 or $5 for a 2x4. Prolly the only time I use a jigsaw is to match the landscape.

    My experience at Home Depot was that they don't do a good job ripping the tempered hardwood. If I were going to do it again, I would go to a lumber yard.

    Nice idea. I'm currently trying to do similar with some slightly thicker wooden boards and, well, they're kinda warped. Hardboard would have been much simpler, but I'm part way there now so I guess I'll get the plane out and keep going :D
    On velcro, I've always heard it called "hook side" (scratchy) and "loop side" (fuzzy), but I'm in the UK so terminology may differ over there.

    • @sturnie1
      @sturnie1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are correct about hook and loop

    That's like adding a tie and a suit jacket. It looks great! Since you mentioned 3d printers, which type of 3D printer would you recommend: filament or resin?

    • @DIYDigitalRailroad
      @DIYDigitalRailroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Filament for less detailed items, resin for detail.

    How do you add holes for mounting DCC plugs or turnout controls? Very well done. I have no talent when it comes to power tools.

    • @DIYDigitalRailroad
      @DIYDigitalRailroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on which controls I do. This is why I made the panels easy to remove.

    What about cabinets under the layout for storage :-)
