My family and I were on a trip at Dubai in December 2018, and the hotel we stayed there (Aloft City Centre Deira) had black JBL Horizons in every room. It is a really nice and neat little product, especially in a nice 4-star hotel room. Although I found this video right after I found the product in the hotel, I am commenting way later after that. The design is very nice and modern, and the glass over the display is a nice addition. I did do one of the basic functions of this product, that is, setting an alarm. I used the alarm sound named "2-Solar", which I think is my favourite of the three melodies. I also like the other two melodies. Of course, as you know, you can also choose FM radio, Bluetooth streaming and beeping as the alarm sound. I also connected my phone to the Horizon via Bluetooth, and I do recommend doing so. The sound quality is very good, and the speaker gets quite loud. I pretty much did not use the FM radio function though. Overall, I really like this product, and I really liked to have a JBL Horizon in the hotel room. I did have good memories with it during that trip, and I would like to have this product again in my bedroom at my Bangladeshi home.
Dubai is such a beautiful city. I miss being there. I’m definitely due to go back! 😊 so far I have only been to DoubleTree Hotels and the Bab al Shams Desert Resort. (Amazing!) but thanks for your comment!
Nice video. I just received my product. I believe there is as battery. Turn it upside down, and there is a slotted area. I haven't opened it yet, but i believe that is why when you unplug the product the time will stay on. Make sure to first remove the clear, small, plastic tab.
Can the light alarm turn on without any music playing or sound? If sound always comes on with the light, is there a way around it so I am only getting the light turning on to wake me up?
Just recently bought the black one. It was on sale and I've been eyeing it for a while. So couldn't resist. Set up was fairly easy for me anyway. Sound quality for a small alarm clock radio is good. It's a JBL so you know they have good speakers. I like the ambient light. I find the display really good and the fact that it dims nicely when the lights are off a plus! The gradual alarm sound is a plus and the ambient light option is a good thing. Over all I'm impressed so far. I found the pairing for my Samsung to this device was pretty quick and simple.
Thanks a bunch for a nice review! I got mine today and I must say it is a really nice piece of tech. Originally, I was considering of purchasing Philips Wake up Light but decided to go with JBL alarm clock. So far, no regrets. The only thing I am not really happy is placement of control buttons, but I am being picky here ^^ I would recommend it to anyone without any reservations!
+Adam GIZLIN Well, the Philips Wake Up Light is something totally different. My gf has one and its much more therapeutic in terms of sunrise and sunset lighting for your sleep cycle, where as the JBL is really just a night stand speaker 😊 But glad you liked the video and the product.
Thanks. This is a good review. Actual walkthrough the functions. I learned from it that the buttons have a loud click click when pushed... If you are sharing a bed and need to set the clock while partner is sleeping then it's a deal killer.
They should make new version of this with a subwoofer on the back of it or 3D sound speaker on it. Although most people wouldn't turn these up loud enough to notice it.
Florian Uhlemann look at Flossy Carter's video of that unit... Its not worth $300 .. I would wait until it drops or get a $220 sony micro system or something like the $170 700w LG system... Those are worth the money
I dont mind it either bc it has good sound but i like bass even for an alarm system but i think i could live without it... Probably gonna get a used iHome Bluetooth because of the brand name and that the last one I had didnt have bass or a custom EQ (AT least with bASS and treble control) but it was loud and had some good sound
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, JBL is a great company when it comes to audio quality. I have, however, found that there are a couple of newcomers on the market that are really worth it as well! Stay tuned, there will be a few more videos on that topic in the next year. 😊 (i.e. Libratone, etc.)
I believe it can be set so that it turns on when the alarm goes off. But you can also manually turn the light on. It should not turn off automatically.
Hi I find that when the alarm goes off it stops after about a minuite we like to wake to FM radio and listen to the news before getting up but this stoppes half way through can I extend this
+Shirley shadbolt That is about the only real downside I have been reading of with this alarm clock. Initially, they complained about the fm radio station to keep turning up volume until its so loud it actually hurts, or that it doesn't just turn on the radio (like you say), but rather uses it as a alarm sound. Not much I can help you with, might have to get in contact with JBL and see if they do have another firmware update lined up?
Hi Florian, I once had a Philips wake up light and the light gets brighter very slowly. It takes half an hour. The Horizon does it in a few seconds. Do you know if this can be modified on the Horizon?
Nice review ! Danke ! Can I ask you if you have problems with the display at night ? Isn't it too bright for sleeping ? Can it be dimmed to very dark ? Because I have a radio now and just the digits alone are so bright it lightens up my whole room at night. thanks !
+ScHiZoPhReNi74 Thank you for your feedback. I think the display is absolutely no distraction at night. I would actually consider it a little on the (too) dark side. Can be hard to read if you just turned the light off and your eyes aren't in night vision mode yet 😉
@ Florian Uhlemann Great review, but , I don't know if you have this problem (for me he is a problem ), in the night when it is quiet, very quiet, the volume at VOL 01 (min), its too loud on the radio, can I adjust him some how ? THX .
+Aldo DeNigris Well, I've only been using bluetooth audio via iPhone (which has an additional volume control) thus I can reduce the volume while on the lowest VOL 01 step. I could image that the radio can be quite loud. The only "fix" i can think of is hanging a towel over it to dim the volume - but yeah, that's certainly not the whole point. The volume is indeed a little flawed on the Horizon. Most people complain about the immense volume raise when listening to the radio after being wakened by the radio (instead of alarm sound) as it would keep getting louder and louder if you do not "disable" the alarm.
+owais shaikh It doesn't feature an integrated battery, so unless you provide a stabilized powerpack there's no way to use it as a portable speaker. If you have a regular power outlet for the power supply, then yes, it can be used as a simple speaker.
For the size and price, it is pretty good. I currently have it in my living room as a bluetooth speaker until I get a 360° omni-direction speaker. So far it proceeds better sound than my TV, I think.
No, it will work with any bluetooth audio device, such as tablets, laptops, mp3 players, smartphones, etc. It only uses the Bluetooth protocol for audio commands and playback.
Unfortunately, I have not yet had a similar experience with any Apple device and bluetooth. You could try and use the "Reset Network" function in the iPhone. To eliminate the JBL from the list of causes, you should try another iPhone from a friend of family member of yours.
Daylight Saving Time. Instead of changing the time each time summer time comes and goes, you need to press this button or off. All decent clock devices have this.
i have no idea how i need to connect my iphone (5s) with this device, i turn on my bluetooth and play a song but the clock radio remains silent... all help welcomed :)
In your bluetooth settings you must pair the device with your iPhone. In order to achieve that, long press the Bluetooth button on the device and it will show up in the Bluetooth settings of your iPhone. Click the device to pair it. Then ensure that the volume of the Horizon in bluetooth mode is sufficient, as well as your iPhone's audio is routed to bluetooth device, not internal speakers. (Airplay-like symbol usually)
Hallo, ist es möglich dein Weckton per Bluetooth einzustellen ohne, das jedesmal das Bluetooth das handy an sein muss, also auf dem Weckerspeichern? Gruß teufel
Hello Michael! I'm currently out of town, but will check when I get back home. Must admit, I haven't used much of the radio functions, but I'm also not certain that there is such a thing as presets for stations.
We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning th-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.
Hi, is it possible to change the brightness of the display? I can barely see displayed numbers and only under an angle. I can't see anything when i look from the front.
Good luck with this device. The "manual" is almost useless. It only points out what is spelled out on the case itself. There are no detailed instructions as how to set things up. I tried to set the alarm and I gave up on that. The display light dims according to amount of light in room and it was too dim to see what I was setting because the legend was almost invisible. You can turn off the lights so to make the display brighter but then you can't see the legend on the buttons. There is not way to set the display lights to your preference when needed. There's a big light on the back that kept coming on unexpectedly (OK, I hit some button or other that activated the light) and once on I could not turn the light off. The radio was loud and clear which I liked. But, you need lots of patience or maybe get somebody who writes computer software programs to help you get things going. As much as I wanted to make this thing work, I couldn't. The quality of the clock itself seems pretty good. JBL could do a lot better if they provided a manual that was usable.
Not every one is "tech savy" you could say. I'm not a computer programmer by any means. Yet I was able to figure things out without even looking at the "how to manual". It's pretty basic like most other alarm clock radios out there when it comes to setting the alarms. But that's just my opinion. I find mine which i just got recently as it was on sale just right.
Thank you for the feedback. I agree, some features may not be intuitive. turning off the light will not be immediate as it's using the phase-in and phase-out delay to make it seem more natural (sunrise / sunset). Thus, when you push the button, it will not happen immediately. I hope you could figure out how to correctly set your alarm clock.
is this the only choice of jbl products that no need to charged? i already had jbl flip. 3 and clip+ and too lzy to recharge it everyday..what i need just plug it, i try jbl charge 3 and could play while im plug it but im afraid theres issue w the battery later
I understand your issue. Most audio products nowadays are battery powered devices for on the go. I also do not appreciate that. Example: Libratone Zipp. Ideal home speaker (360°), but it's battery powered. Why? The Horizon is purely powered off a wall adapter only.
there is also JBL pebbles. but why would you specifically want JBL speakers if there are tons of great speakers that sound better for the price and don't have batteries. btw if you leave them charging all the time it's not going to hurt the battery that much, and you said you don't care about the battery anyway. there is also the Xtreme, but it's expensive, it seems like it kinda was designed to play while charging though.
Hello Lars-Ole, I'm sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your connection to the JBL speaker. I'm using my speaker almost daily now and we keep switching between Amazon Echo Dot, iPhone and iPad. Once paired you can easily connect with your other device by just tapping on the JBL Horizon name. Keep in mind that if a device is already connected to the JBL Horizon, it will not accept the new connection.
hey we unstalled this clock in our hotel room. It seems to turn off at night? Any idea how to get the display to stay visible through the night? It seems ridiculous
Hallo Luke. Natürlich könnte ich die Videos auch in Deutsch machen, spreche dann aber leider deutlich weniger Zuschauer an, als dies mit Englisch der Fall ist. Tut mir leid.

Glad you liked the product. I was surprised I found them in a hotel room recently, at the Biltmore Resort in Phoenix, AZ.

How much did u pay for it.
@@florianuhlemann Me too! There were black JBL Horizons in every room of the hotel we stayed at Dubai.

Ha, true! Personally, I don't mind it the way it is. For a room speaker, I'm still hoping to get a Bose Wave Sound System for myself.

not exactly a question about the alarm but what was the song you play during the 7:13 mark?
Astral Romance by Nightwish
Is this JBL device USB can plug in with USB thumb drive and play a song ?
I have yet to try that, but I think there is no functionality to support this.
I don't think so.
how to i set a alarm with my own music?
Another viewer commented that you can connect your phone and use that playlist as your alarm sound.
Is it possible to use as an alarm only will produce sounds by its own or it should be bluetooth connected device
Zuhair Yassin yes it is.. Just connect your phone to this speaker and the alarm on your phone will play your own sound 😁
Thank you for answering the question. 😊 I've been a little busy and would have to refer to the manual anyways.
It doesn't come with a charger??🤔

This JBL Horizon also supports FM Radio stations, but I agree, they have become quite rare.

Personally, I think it was sufficient. Quite strong for a night stand alarm clock.
How do you adjust clock
Were you able to adjust your clock? I believe I've tried to describe and show it as good as possible.
So there isn't a battery inside to use it without connecting it to the outlet ?
