- The 2nd motorcycle in Harley-Davidson's retro-style Icon's Collection has been announced. Modeled after the 1983 FXRT, the El Diablo embodies the spirit of the 1980's counterculture "Harley scene" while delivering a contemporary bike that gives a nod to the southern California style. H-D's Icons Collection is a series of bikes that comes out with a new retro style version of a significant motorcycle in Harley's history once a year. The El Diablo has been an instant hit because of the wide appeal of the Low Rider ST that was just launched this year. Combine that with the FXRT inspiration, amazing paint, exclusivity, and stereo and you have a extremely high-demand bike. Limited to only 1,500 world wide this bike is going to be a hard one to get.

Good to see your dad again. I have the last RT made. Followed it down the line in York and road it back to Milwaukee. 30 years working for the motor company, I I had your dad in several company classes along with your grandpa. Glad to see the revival of the RT over the last few years - best bike HD ever made, I have 275,000 + miles on mine and ride it every day. Thanks for the memories.

I thought the same thing as I was listening to Jerry talk about those times. History definitely repeats itself in the Harley world with people's initial perceptions of the new engines/motorcycles coming out. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching

I love the el Diablo ! But I’ve grown sick of black and plain Harley paint jobs. Love the colourful cvo paint work jobs ! I can’t say the low rider st is the most comfortable Harley I’ve ridden due to the high mid mounted pegs and somewhat strange riding position in relation to the bars but I’m 6ft 3. Stunning bike tho one of my favourite looking Harley bikes.

I had a FXRD in 1986. Put 77000 miles on it within no issues,traded it in on a 91 fatboy. That FXRD was a great bike. Funny how people I ran into thought it was a Japanese bike,it was such a departure from my other Harley’s

I hope that HD finds some success in the El Diablo! I’d love to see a new generation of FXR riders. I still miss my 87 FXLR 10th Anniversary Low Rider! Biggest regret of my life was selling my first big twin!

Wow that throw back picture of your dad looks exactly like you.
I had a black, '84 FXRT. They also had the air valve on the forks for "anti-dive". My enclosed chain never leaked a drop. It handled like a dream.

Its great to see your dad in the videos, I fell in love with Harleys in 1978 when I saw the tan electroglide classic as a kid. I used to hang out at Laidlaw when I was t teenager riding an ironhead in the mid 80s. Love your channel and all the content, thanks Matt.

Beautiful machine Matt and thanks for the stories Mr Laidlaw. Both my Harley’s are 2002, FLHT and Fxstb. Night Train has hard bags and is a blast to ride around after getting off the touring, the weight difference is night and day, almost feels like a dirt bike when coming from the touring frame but none the less, I could ride my softail across country just as east as my Electra Glide.
I love the videos with your dad! Such cool guy with great stories. I had to laugh at him riding El Diablo, he makes it look like a mini bike!

As much as the bike looks great i believe they should have added a little more. The side skirts on the fxr that look like the road glide ones. As well as a small tour pack matched with the paint would have been an extremely nice addition to seperate it from the rest of the bikes. The add ons really make a difference like they did the first icon bike with the pogo seat and the new bag guards.
Yea, they could have taken it to a whole new level which would have been cool. Their costs for a niche bike though would be tough to cover. That would be cool to somehow do that though

I purchased a two tone red one one in 91. Turned out to be the last one. Ran off to Colorado with a friend who had a 88 BMW krs. Here the Peoria area of central Il it didn't sell,
well. Just didn't look like a Harley! You dad's input was great to hear and I believe it's spot on. We rode all over rockey mountain national park etc. It hung with K bike very well. I believe I had a larger smooth bore machuni on it. The new one will be hit this time, even with out a cassette player...
Honestly Harley Davidson needs to stop with the boring paint jobs and start doing real paint jobs like the El Diablo and all of their classic bikes. Just my opinion.

Great video and great stories! I like new ST's. Yea, those old BT Evos are great engines. I have '93 Heritage with well over 100 000 miles on a clock and it still pulls like animal. And engine is unopened. Just basic maintenance done to it. Even rear shocks are original.

T.u. I love my 83 FXRT true it wasn't excepted by the Harley crowd as it was viewed as a Gold Wing bcuz of the fairing and bags, I left the bags at the dealership installed custom made large leather bags.
One nite when I had a Lincoln continental toying with me like Jerry's story we passed an 🚑 at 110+-
Later on I dropped the faring.
P.s. presently a basketcase.
To elaborate: I purchased as a leftover demo in February of 86 with 2,683 miles, I had been actively searching for several months, I had decided to purchase the metallic Gray 82 low rider the dealership had, it was a snowy day I missed a turn on way there, when I did arrive I opened and held the door for people exiting, as it turned out I held the door for the guy who just purchased the 82 lowrider, the salesman was quick to sell the 83 FXRT next to it, dealership was proud he sold 2 Harleys b4 coffee break in a snow storm.
