    They can cut you in college. Scholarships are only one year. That’s why you have to sign your scholarship every year you go to the school. My roommate had his scholarship taken away for a new recruit.

    • @deesee2051

      They changed that rule at lots of top schools and they can still dismiss you from the football team

    • @yungwes20
      @yungwes20 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@deesee2051 that’s not true. All you have to do is google it. Scholarships are awarded ANNUALLY. Getting a scholarship doesn’t mean it’s for 4 years. It’s only 1. As a college athlete you renew it yearly. Now 99 percent of players get theirs renewed. But there are plenty of cases like my roommate/teammate. He wasn’t dismissed for behavior/team rules or academic violations. They literally wanted to give his scholarship to an incoming freshman. The rule change you are talking about is probably getting to transfer without sitting out.

      Like if a 5 star WR goes to LSU then stops putting the work in because he’s making 7 figures through NIL that year, that’s not gonna hurt college football. He’ll get replaced and forgotten about and a different WR will take his hype and carry it to the league.

    I think the fear over the NIL is overblown. There are so many athletes in this country. Regardless of what happens at the college level, the cream will rise to the top. I could see what he’s saying for some guaranteed first round player, but scholarships aren’t guaranteed forever. NIL money isn’t guaranteed forever, especially as a young player that’s unproven in college. Listen to Michael Irvin talk about his upbringing and why he went straight from college to the nfl because he had a family to feed .. it’s a huge blessing for being able to help more families by paying top college athletes instead of just the highest level of the game .. now all that said it will hinder some people from being “in it for the game “ but that won’t stop the best of the best from still getting better and moving up.
