What an amazing job everyone did. I was there a few years ago and what a difference! And the stairs look like they work well enough. (-: That's one seriously furry cat. I imagine hairless varieties don't last long over there.
Wow!! I think this is the first WOFATI build way, way back. The minor 'remodel' is fantastic, and the ATI results will be invaluable in achieving it's ultimate purpose... indoor heating without needing the 'cook stove'. I think the 'guts' of the WOFATI are invisible... under the 'roof' : )
Congratulations on this! I've been keeping an eye on the WOFATI projects for a while (after finding you via the Mike Oehler rabbit hole), and I'm very stoked to hear y'all are at the point of doing annualized thermal inertia tests =)
Great to see the evolution of the structure. I hope to see it in person some day. Off topic, but how much concern do coyotes cause for a cat outside there?
How cold does it become in your neck of the woods and how much snow? I reside deep in the forested hills of northern Scandinavia and winter is a 5 month season here. Show us your home life in deep winter? Is the abbey located far from the rest of the populated world?
Could anyone tell me in a nutshell how the WOFATI is different or special outside of other earth sheltered homes? I think it looks fabulous btw - and the people seem really nice too. What an idyllic spot to enjoy life from.
@@paulwheaton Thats a seriously lofty goal. Was your thinking to reduce the carbon footprint/eco damage that Portland cement is by substituting with Cob?
@@LitoGeorge Portland cement has far more problems than simply the carbon footprint. I think building without portland cement is a critical component to build a better world.
I want a tour when I visit Wheaton Labs!
Oh YAY! Looks great! Great music choice as usual Josiah (and the stairs are great). So many reading nooks!
Is this song accessible somewhere?
I cannot wait to pay this place a visit.
Wow, that looks so comfortable. I love how light it looks in there. Good plastering job!
Amazing. This really puts all the descriptions from the forum and the podcast together.
Great to see how good it's looking! Really awesome!
Beautiful!
It's looking great!
I love this! 😙
Nice one, Paul!
Allerton is looking sweet!

very beautiful

Is it true that Paul is giving Allerton Abbey to the first person who spends four years in the Permaculture bootcamp?
yes. at this time there is also the caveat that they start on/before march 23, 2025
Looks beautiful. I saw somewhere else that the stove was a cook stove. Is it also sufficient as a room heater?
In previous video, she said not really, because the design burns through the wood so fast.
It is designed to heat food and then send the remaining heat outside as quickly as possible.
@@paulwheaton How does she heat the cabin in midwinter cold?
What else do we need to make a video about for allerton abbey?
I was thinking about making something about the roundwood timber framing. And based on some other youtube comments - cooking with the rocket cooktop.
English fred built quite a bench out back. It has a cat shelter underneath and a planter along the top.
I'd be interested in seeing more about that front door
@@kev5782 I mentioned it to josiah.
I suggest showing more of the cat too. Cats seem to do well on TH-cam 😺.
It's beautiful! The video I've been waiting for! 😊 Is the thermal inertia test officially underway with Jen staying there now?
Jen is staying there now. The ATI test cannot officially begin until next winter since the mass is not properly charged.
Any update?
Interested to hear the legal / zoning / building code restrictions on such a project and if u can legally live in there and costs involved

There is concern for coyotes.
I like the stove
I need a parts list and plans

this might help th-cam.com/video/A9xyEFY__TM/w-d-xo.html - the tipi is on the same property
@@paulwheaton Thanks, that is -33 degree celsius. Impressive tipi and stove construction.

Average ground temp here is 45. With the umbrella, the hope is to get that to 72. Plus, heavy use of logs and cob instead of cement.

@@paulwheaton tx. I agree, alluded to that with my eco damage reference. 👍
has anyone else built a wofati yet?
