    Thanks for the making this video. I was hoping to see you tested in a more yellow water turns clear. I read several carbon regen method requires at least 800 degrees C to burn off whatever carbon absorbed. Your testing method between wet vs. dry bubbling might not be as effective to conclude that this regenerative technique is working. Good work still.

    This is only going to cook off the volatiles, you need a zero oxygen high heat environment, around 800c.

    your process is interesting, i'm going to have to try it, but your conclusion is flawed. 1: the test should have been to head to head the freshly pulled carbon DRIED against the regen. 2: the bubbling says NOTHING about the regen. it's just releasing the air vs teh wet carbon which is still saturated. process=plausible, test=fail.

    Careful how you re-release all the toxins it was made to absorb.... If re-heating in a household oven, surely they will just be released into your carbon filter cooking hood..? And bear in mind what the toxins might be - should they be released at all? And the electricity cost..?

    Of course the activated carbon drawn in the glass due to wet, whereby the other is dry and newly heated it will first float and slowly dissolve in water. Common sense

     @EconomicalReefer hi, great video, have being using the same method for many years but have never had the results scientifically, analytically tested for how well the process works, so thanks for your demo, appreciate. However getting lazy these days and with the cost of gas, wife pan issues, personal time used etc., find using new , just easier. But i see the cost range these days for activated carbon is quite large, 5 USA dollars in our country for 1kg, and going up to like 10 USA dollar and more for 1kg of the expensive brands of activated charcoal .... so i' m going back to your method. thanks again. and good luck with your wife's mercy..... hehe

  • @tutacat

    If you reduce the water, you may not remove it...
    Basically, you are clearing the pores in the wood/charcoal are that were opened by the activation. You need water and maybe want soap to to remove the compounds that attach to the carbon.

    Couldn't this process simplified by boiling the carbon in deep water only once then just baking it in the oven?

    • @1969fishtank
      @1969fishtank  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the idea of boiling it a few time is so you are getting as much crap out of the carbon first and then yes bake it .
      If we had ovens that can produce extremely high heat would be great.👍

    • @boneybone8123
      @boneybone8123 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1969fishtank Ah, so we need more than conventional 220C(some ovens go 250C) of heat and that's why you use a pan; which can go well around 400C over a regular household gas stove. Does heat required in this process only to completely dry out the carbon granules or it serves some kind of purification? If it's only to dry it out, maybe 220C of a regular oven would suffice with longer periods of baking with occasional stirring of the carbon and airing out the steam inside the oven. I am going to try this with a 3 liters of carbon and doing that in pan, I have to repeat your method 12-18 times which is not feasible.

    Neat!
    Thanks for testing and sharing idea. I’m sure that the organic matter is mostly ’burned’ off, leaving the minerals. But that’s fine for your aquatic pets.
    I bet if you were to heat it in an oxygen-poor chamber it’d reset the carbon to freshly activated form.
