The story Rodney tells is from the first POKEMON mystery dungeon games. I remember that all happening. Only one thing: instead of a Medicham there is a shiny gardevoir.
Each retelling is a bit different, so I imagine the part of Gardevoir being the partner or the human that touched one of Ninetales' tails got mixed in with the Gengar's cronies at some point and another point added Gardevoir being shiny. Also, considering there is no mention of the human from the future that took Time Gears to Temporal Tower, I'd say this a) at the same time, b) before the events of Explorers, and not just the parts that happen in the future, or c) based on the events of Explorers. I'm leaning heavily on c since we saw Dusknoir talking to a silhouette that looks like that of Dialga's (probably Primal Dialga if I'm correct).

Brenden Mathis If this comic follows Red Rescue continuity Del is most likely the human who stopped Gardevior's curse and turned good. Most likely he turned into White Shiny Gengar to show his change of heart.
