- In todays our main line tractor has broken down so it looks like we our stuck with the mini case 885! Can it pull the oversized tanker?

I remember when we had a new 885xl and it was a “big” tractor back in its day!

Old tractors may be a bit slower and need driven with a little more care, but they still do a job and are easy to fix 👍 Everyone needs an old dependable for when the modern gear lets them down :)
You arent a loser! Its the little things in life that mean the most really. An unexpected smile from a stranger, a little tractor standing in for its big brother, a bright sunny day after a rain soaked one…in the end it all builds up to getting things done and the happiness of a job well done! Never had a doubt. Those old red tractors will still get the job done. Maybe not as fast or comfortable as the new ones but done. Love it ❤
The Case 885 works in a pinch! Good thing it was a calm, sunny day. Not sure I’d want to slurry on a windy, wet day without an enclosed rear cab!😂

I know it's only a temporary solution but if you drop a gear while you are spreading and use more revs the tractor will stay cooler. The fan speed on those older tractors is directly proportionate to the engine revs so it is running very slowly when you keep it just above idle. :-)
And run the slurry pump too hard?
@@casefarmgirl2279... The pumps are designed to be run at 540, at just above idle it wouldn't be doing 30% of that.
engine heat in a tractor is proportional to the fuel going in the pyrometer proves that
@@chucklesx No they arent, slurry pumps run at between 380 and 420 rpm, you never worked one in your life kid
@@harrymiller3986... And the engine cooling is proportional to the amount coolant pumped around the block and through the radiator and the amount of cool air being pulled through the radiator. On older tractors both of these are controlled by the speed of the engine as both the fan and the water (coolant) pump are driven by a belt on a pulley mounted to the end of the crank shaft. With the engine at idle or just above it has a very low cooling value.
Lights on the trailer. If you keep going at this rate you'll barely be breaking any laws at all.
I seriously have a problem I am laughing so much it's hard to work out what is legal and does it not count as it on private land. Good luck!!!

The Old Girl did well there Tom, she might have a few miles under the belt but she's still got it when it counts. New kit full of electronics do make the job easier but you can't keep them going with spit, Gaffa tape and a hammer. 😉
Yup! That’s a massive load to be pulling anywhere, and the old tractor managed the job like she’d done it hundreds of times before. Love machinery you can fix directly - rather than needing a computer software expert to sort out a problem.
It's so good to see the older equipment still getting it!!
Yeah the tractor is a big expense but it's the most important piece of equipment on the farm, definitely worth spending the money on

I would be worried about the drawbar flex hauling that load! I have snapped them and thats not fun. So we used the 3 point hitch arms and chain to the drawbar to add support and take the flex out of the drawbar.
How does that work when turning? Can't imagine how that works when the arms move in line with the tractor and don't run straight with the drawbar when turning!
@@PA-ek3ul You use the broken drawbar 2 1/2 feet long underneath the new drawbar and bolt it on using the spare smaller holes on the drawbar. Weld chain on to the ends of the old drawbar and attach to arm where chains go, make sure chain is long enough to raise arm to top. Its there only to support the new drawbar to take any bounce or flex out of it.
We run a tandem axle 4000 imperial gallon tanker and it use to bounce.

I was amazed to find Rechargeable Wireless Magentic Trailer lights now available.
Plug a sender into your Tractor Socket, stick the lights on the back of the Trailer and straight to work.
No cable to get tangled or cut!
Not too expensive and fitted in less than a minute.

She got you out of trouble with the Hurliman out of action thats the main thing. Plenty of second hand tractors on the market around 130 horse that wouod suit your needs down to the ground when the purse strings allow. Great vid as always Tom really enjoy watching them

Often wondered if using old girls that that teaches you more about listening and feeling how the machinery is working than using a newer one. There is so much feedback from something so simple as a 1970s tractor that will teach you far more about handling a newer machine than just jumping on a newer machine that does it all for you.

Was safety on holiday today???😂 did I spot some PTO work with the engine running and dodgey propping under the tanker????? I think we all guilty of these H&S shortfalls. Great video loved seeing the old girl do the same job as modern tractor 4 times the size and price.👍
I’m not a farmer myself but was surprised to see Tom go near the PTO with the engine running. I worry that he’s not paying full attention to the dangers when he’s filming. Great videos though!

That Case is certainly a tractor, alright having to slow down quite a bit but it does the job well considering it's almost as old as you Tom. Think the Huliman the one to go as it seems to be costing a fair amount of cash these days.

them little nashies are a gutsy little bus,we had a 2wheel drive on a 12ton rear discharge muck spreader,was ok till muck moved to the back & took weight of back wheels.was entertaining for a cpl times.
