Found this today before my clinicals for IV insertion. Very thankful for the clear demonstration on how to insert the IV and what mistakes to avoid 🙏 Hopefully I will successfully perform the IV insertion perfectly for my demonstration 🍀🍀🍀
I love how in these videos they always tell you to ask your patient for their consent. I think we as healthcare givers (especially in the US) can forget that sometimes patients don’t know that they have the right to say no, OR that it can be hard for a patient feel like it’s ok to say no. Sometimes asking “is that ok” can help a patient feel more in control and more confident in their health care.
All the videos I watch are clear veins. Pls try on an anaemic patient or kids too where the vein is quite difficult to locate I want to learn more. Thank you
Thank you very much for this very important nursing procedure being demonstrated here.❤ Please continue to upload such procedures for us to learn more 🙏
I think it was most likely that IV fluid leaked from the cannula into your tissue. It is common that the needle nicks the vein as it's inserted and the fluid leaks into the tissues, making the tissue swell.
I'd like to add that If you're working with transparent tape and tiny tape strips: put on the tiny tape strips on so that it is easy to see where the puncture of the skin is (this is to see if it gets irritated without removing the tape). Not all hospitals can provide this but if they do then you should put them on correctly Do not put your fingers directly on the needle/catheter or on the place where the needle has punctured the skin. These places must be as sterile as possible. You don't necessarly need to try on a different arm if you've failed to put in an I.V. on one arm. This is especially true for patients with an AV fistula used in dialysis (not allowed to puncture any blood vessel on the same arm where the fistula is, blood pressure shouldn't be taken on that arm either). If you're having trouble getting the I.V. to go in all the way in, you can put on the saline and try to push the I.V. in as you gently flush (Sometimes needed to open valves that block the insertion). Of course you have to keep on examinating the skin to notice if it's swelling like in the video incase the vein has been damaged.
Winner of the Most Explicit IV Insertion video. Genius!
Best!
I wasn't able to insert cannula, but I'm able to insert one now after watching this video. Thank you so much.

Can the cannula be rejected by the body of the patient?because l had the same case,my hand was swollen
