- Steven is an incredible artist and a handyman who lives in a 2005 Chevy Express Passenger Van. He created an absolute masterpiece van build! He used every inch of space he had to create his "cabin" on wheels, with reclaimed wood! Steven has worked full-time on the road for 10 years. "Every quarter inch of space".. is an understatement. This rig is very well sorted out with the perfect mix of form and function, and no wasted space.
I'd like to see more about that rear A/C
when Steven is interviewing for a job he could this video as an example of his creativity and skill.
......"sometimes you're urban, and you can't dig a hole in asphalt"..... this mobile artist has so many dry throwaway lines....I'd love to hear him talk for hours. Beautiful van, beautiful mind, and pretty handsome too! Thanks for sharing and brightening up my day 🤩
I met Steven at the ND sugar beet harvest and again at Schooliepalooza. I didn't notice the double barn side doors before.

Finally, an artist in van life! I was very interested in the set-up to see how Steven did his smaller art-work in his van. I myself am an artist and this was a very interesting unique van tour concerning space and also to show who he is as an artist. Those clouds, though....🙂 And spray painting the damask pattern. Steven loves beauty. His whole space was beautiful and creative. Thank-you, Bob🙂
I’m an artist too so I was anxious to see what he has built & see how he pursues his passion on the road. Great story; I’d love to run into this guy once I’m on the road!

Steampunk is awesome! He’s so unique, intelligent, and has just an uplifting and positive attitude. He did an amazing job on that van. No wasted space AT ALL. He really made this work for height.

My 2008 Savana has barn doors on both sides that open wide, too, and they are a game changer for sure. LOVE the build, so creative, and love that you're showing great ideas for those of us with low roof vans.

Great video and innovative very functional build. I loved the tabletop that moved closer to one's lap for better ergonomics and with a desk drawer. Great feature in a low top van. If I were only a fraction as handy as Steven!

Very impressed and love his energy and his philosophy re art, as I am a pet and landscape abstract artist myself snowbirding from BC and miss my huge art table... I have a similar pull out desk system with 2 surfaces and a mock laguna table for added surface in my mini gmc safari...i think he hit the key ie 1 project at a time... I really like this van build, the dark wood, storage, even the curtains. I'm a lover of antiques, so it made me very comfortable. If a Clam would fit on top, he could have a traveling art studio/workshop. I'm sure he makes friends everywhere he goes. What an interesting man and interesting life. Thank you, Bob, for finding him.

Steve’s van reminds me of a passenger car on a train, something out of the Orient Express. It’s just like the cobbled together homes you could find in the black and white book from the 70’s…”Home On Wheels,” I think it was titled. (I checked this book out of the library constantly as a kid.) Such creativity.
Also, Steve’s energy and affect reminds me so much of my cousin ❤. He has a wry sense of humor and an intelligent that might be lost on some.

Our 2020 High Roof Ram Promaster 2500 has sliding doors on both sides, very nice access to the whole van that way.

Wow! Milo! You rock dude! You will never be broke after this! Milo himself is my favorite part of this video. Bob is always a favorite! The garage was a great surprise. The storage areas are nice and big for a small van. Space for EBike was nice and expanding bed.
I love this! A practical build but with so many artistic and personal touches. Love the full-size bed and the hanging closet. He definitely used every square inch.

I have to say, this is one of the nicest and most efficient builds I have seen. Love the steam-punk theme and the clever use of space. Steven obviously planned and executed the build extremely well.

The garage is a great idea for access. Very thoughtful. I like the accessibility to and from the cab. The slid away looks nice.

I never really considered cooking in cast iron on the road - he's right about the cleaning. Most of the time all you have to do is wipe the thing "clean".
It funny. Back in 1982 a friend in San Diego brought a van to live in. And he wanted curtains made. In Mexico he could get it done for a couple hundred. I said I can sew why not let me make them. So we went to a fabric place down on university ave. I found about 15 yards of dark blue fabric for $15. And we Picked up a few accessories. So for under $25 I custom made curtains for him. A big curtain to divide the from from back and all the windows. I had left over material for pillows cases. He was so happy. He gave me $80. And I was a super poor student. Great memory. I think I was meant to do van life. It has not happened yet but I’m 60 now. I have many more years to try it. I just thought about making my friends curtains when I saw his nice curtains. He has a great home !
The workspace, pocket/sliding door, the garage space, storage, especially the e-bike, and doggie space.
I like these kinds of builds best. Minimal build, lots of cargo. I often wonder about the decorator builds if there is any cargo capacity left.

EXCELLENT work on this van, it's truly beautiful and clearly functional for the purposes of work and travel. I admire what you created and I'd like to put as much character into my own van as you do. I've only done part time traveling in mine, but I see all the value of each fixture in your full time travel rig ✨️

As someone who has been struggling with finding the path to life again, you're bringing exactly the great questions and maybe answers as well. I have been thinking of going van living for almost a year, and you really push me to do just that this summer. Finally, I started looking for a van.
