The mother responds in a toxic like way because she may think of the child as a mistake because she didn't want it in the first place. Therefore she responds with "they come from boys who want to sit on their ass", "they come from girls who like to grow up too fast" etc. Then at the end of the chorus it switches back to when the mother is a teenager, pregnant with the baby and she's mad because the father of her child left her and all she had left was her own mother. Then it switches back to the child's perspective asking "where do babies come from?". Then the chorus goes on and the mother responds in a toxic way. Then the mother remembers when the baby was about to be born. When her ex-boyfriend shows up for the baby's birth and the teenager's mom fears that with him there it will make her upset. Then it goes back to the chorus but it stays as the child's perspective. Repeating what the mother had said to it. Basically saying that babies always come from problematic relationships and then they become the problem. I know this is a little messy, but these were just my thoughts and how I interpreted the song.

I picture it as the life of a teen mother and in extension, her child. In the beginning she opens up with a teen mom explaining her situation, she's pregnant and her boyfriend dipped. Her mother helps care for her during her difficult pregnancy; and I picture at the first chorus its the teen mom remembering when she was a child asking her mother where babies came from, before cutting to her now answering her own question based off her situation. Next it is the teen mom again, and it sounds like to me she's detailing an abusive relationship, presumably she got into around the time her child was born. The "He" sounds like he is physically harming the teen mom as she talks about cuts and bruises and band aids. The next chorus comes into play, and I think this time it is her now toddler-ish aged child asking where babies came from and her answering them. (Alternatively this could be the teen mom just remembering her relationship before her pregnancy, and once again her younger self asking the question of where babies came from again. It would fit in the chronological event theme of telling a story, but the first concept fits better, as the last and final chorus is framed from the presumed perspective of the teen mothers child.) Delivery day comes, and the child's father arrives out of nowhere. This could be the bio dad, or the teen moms new boyfriend she would click up with who stays around long enough for the child to consider him their father. I don't have any idea what "Its my mom's greatest fear" could mean, maybe having to have the child and care for them? The song ends with the child of the teen mother internalizing what they were told about where babies come from and applying it to themself.

I picture it as the life of a teen mother and in extension, her child. In the beginning she opens up with a teen mom explaining her situation, she's pregnant and her boyfriend dipped. Her mother helps care for her during her difficult pregnancy; and I picture at the first chorus its the teen mom remembering when she was a child asking her mother where babies came from, before cutting to her now answering her own question based off her situation.
Next it is the teen mom again, and it sounds like to me she's detailing an abusive relationship, presumably she got into around the time her child was born. The "He" sounds like he is physically harming the teen mom as she talks about cuts and bruises and band aids. The next chorus comes into play, and I think this time it is her now toddler-ish aged child asking where babies came from and her answering them.
(Alternatively this could be the teen mom just remembering her relationship before her pregnancy, and once again her younger self asking the question of where babies came from again. It would fit in the chronological event theme of telling a story, but the first concept fits better, as the last and final chorus is framed from the presumed perspective of the teen mothers child.)
Delivery day comes, and the child's father arrives out of nowhere. This could be the bio dad, or the teen moms new boyfriend she would click up with who stays around long enough for the child to consider him their father. I don't have any idea what "Its my mom's greatest fear" could mean, maybe having to have the child and care for them?
The song ends with the child of the teen mother internalizing what they were told about where babies come from and applying it to themself.

During an interview with The Knockturnal in August 2015, Melanie answered another question regarding the song:
Interviewer: Is there anything you had to cut from the album? Like fans were wondering about "Where Do Babies Come From?"
Melanie: Yeah I mean there are a lot of songs that I wrote for the album that got cut just because I can’t put 30 songs on the album. Hahah that would be amazing and I wish I could. Yeah I don’t know, I definitely want to eventually put out the songs I wrote for this album, maybe for another project if it fits but “Where Do Babies Come From?” is one that I was going to put as a bonus track on the album but then I kept writing and it just didn’t work out. Maybe in the future I can put it out for fans or something. I don’t know, we’ll see what happens there.

Only thing I hate is how ppl nvr call out boys for being fast. Both men n women are sexually beings. Both hv wants, hormones and desires. Only one is taught to push it all away and the other is allowed and even encouraged to be overly indulgent (which is a bad thing). The K-12 movie was sort of a musical that played out all the songs she had on the album as for the PORTALS movie Melanie said she'll be more focused on the story rather than the songs. I never heard about a TV-series on her, though.
