    The boffins at Trinnov have innovated more in the past few years than all of the legacy audio companies combined. I love what they do, even though it is significantly outside my scope and budget!

    I don't have one, but my friend had one installed in his studio. This is for anyone watching this video thinking what's the fuss. It really has to be heard to believed, it's night and day switching it on and off. It clears up some of the issues related to drivers and crossovers, each driver has different phase, and this seems to figure out the driver's cross over points and bands, correct for any issues, and aligns the stereo image with laser precision.
    It's actually wild, pin point precision details so you can actually judge, and not second guess mixing decisions. It's not cheap, but neither is acoustic treatment, or your speakers. It optimises the best of ingredients. It is the audio equivalent of MSG. Sorry for the rant. Before you judge, hearing is believing.

    Just got a Nova installed in the studio and I must say i'm very impressed by what it has done for the audio and my mixes so far - very impressive tech! I tried to use Sonarworks once but I turned it off after a few days as it wasn't doing it for me at all. The Nova is a totally different beast! I hope they iron out the bugs soon (apparently there is an update coming) Also, the latency it adds of around 20-30ms could do with being reduceable when tracking synths both hardware and software....

    Instead of letting you daisy chain NOVAs, they’ve added a Dante option to MC-Pro. So, you do have the option of running ATMOS with Dante, just with another box.

    I can understand that they want to differentiate the Nova from their higher end devices. Maybe it's just time for a MC Pro and/or D-Mon Mk2 or one combined successor? Something with Dante, the new microphone and enough channels for up to 9.3.6 would be amazing. With more and more studios building Atmos rooms there would surely be a market for a device that can keep up.

    • @PresentDayProduction

      It will cause latency while tracking, but some are more sensitive to that than others. Trinnov are soon to incorporate a hard bypass for those situations. And it will add another stage of conversion if using analogue in an out. But we can’t hear any degradation at all.

      The ST2 and MC-Pro mute the audio for a few milliseconds when the system is bypassed, but not when it’s active. It’s a known thing on those two models - our MC-Pro does it too.

  • @Seraph137
    @Seraph137 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think Trinnov went this way because of possible user 'confusion'. It seems to me, they want to make it clear that the Nova is for stereo calibration with extra IO for outboard gear. For someone like me, waiting on Atmos gear to work outs its issues AND pricing , it is a nice option to have one interface that will allow me to hook a preamp, maybe some outboard mastering gear or even a synth and I am good to go. Then, for Atmos, they will create a SuperNova *shrug*, that will be targeted at Atmos users. So it won't be confusing, Nova for Stereo, SuperNova for Atmos.

    Hello chaps and thank you for another thorough and informative video :) I'm lucky enough to have a pair of Ex Machina Pulsar 2 monitors and was wondering if you can answer a specific question. The speakers have around 3ms of latency in tracking mode and 46ms with the full DSP operating. Do you happen to know if that can be taken into account when calibrating a system with the Trinnov? I realise I may need to ask Trinnov this but you seem to be pretty familiar with the details! Cheers, Dave

    • @PresentDayProduction
      @PresentDayProduction  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Dave! Any system latency will be taken into account by the Trinnov. So you could do two calibrations, one in tracking mode and one with full DSP and save them as different presets - although the Nova processing latency is around 25ms, so you might want to bypass it for tracking. There is a full hardware bypass coming as a software update in 2024 too. I hope that answers your question! Cheers, Mark

      I have a set of Pulsar MK2’s too. I was told by Ex Machina that it’s not recommended to calibrate the Pulsar’s in DSP mode with the Trinnov. They also claim their DSP for the Pulsar is tighter than the Trinnov. Therefore, I would recommend you calibrate the Pulsar with the DSP on and off and providing you can bypass the phase of the Trinnov, see which one you prefer best.

      The main problem with this would be controlling the volume (and telling the second Trinnov what the other six speakers are, you'd probably have to turn the mic around and do it backwards!). We use La Remote and that will only control one unit. Let's hope they come up with a solution soon, because our MC Pro calibrates an Atmos system to absolute perfection in about 2-3 minutes! If the Nova can be upgraded to do that in the future it will be a game changer, and you won't need an interface, monitor controller, or consumer decoder any more.

    selling a piece of hardware and hiding key features behind a paywall instantly disqualifies this.
    especially in a pro setup you want your hardware to work whether the company that built it is still going or not.

    • @PresentDayProduction
      @PresentDayProduction  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have a two channel license by default when you purchase the unit. There’s no paywall for that.
      The extra channel licenses though, they must be purchased to expand upwards to bigger systems. They have always done this with their older products. It means that you can scale the system up to how big you need it and not pay for unnecessary channels.
      To clarify, it’s a one off purchase, and it works forever, it’s not a subscription

    (After listening to five minutes of Tech Support James) and this is the easy solution? 👴🏽
    Edit after watching the whole video: Trinnos is like the audio version of Panasonic.
    For years they completely ignored the massive, screaming wall of amateur and professional photographers and videographers telling them to finally get with the times and equip their cameras with phase detect autofocus, and when they finally, begrudgingly did with the LUMIX S5 II, they where completely overrun and shocked by the sales numbers. And why is it such a success? Because Panasonic was already the best or tied for best on (maybe?) all other measures, but unusable autofocus is an obvious deal-breaker for most people.
    How can big-brained hardware companies that cater to creative people be so tone-deaf?

    • @weschilton
      @weschilton 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your comment makes no sense. Panasonic is massively bigger company than Trinnov. And the consumer camera market itself is huge compared to the professional recording market. (NOVA is not a consumer product--and is even a niche product within the pro recording world)

      It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription. So you'd rather pay £13,800 for a 16-channel Trinnov with no option to only buy two channels? This solution they run is fantastic because you can pay for the channels you need, once, and don't pay for what you don't need. And if you expand your setup, rather than having to buy a new unit, you just unlock more channels, again as a one time payment. It's like buying a new interface but without buying a new interface. I really don't see the issue.

    • @Mtaalas
      @Mtaalas 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PresentDayProductionthey must be making a profit for each unit, regardless of the license level someone buys, ight? So why have the licenses at all? Just sell one version of the unit, with full capability, and it doesn't have to costs 13k, clearly... or are they making a loss on those cheaper units?
      I feel that if I buy a piece of hardware, I buy a piece of hardware in full. Having licenses means that they are just taking larger margin from those who need more capabilities, but are making a profit on each unit regardless.
      You can go ahead and read what happened when Yamaha closed down license servers for their DM1000 consoles and one can't get the upgraded effects for the console anymore, no matter how much they want to pay.
      So all DM1000 consoles are forced to be in that configuration they were before servers were closed even if the hardware itself is still very capable and usable...
      So it's also an environmental issue. Let's say Trinnov goes under tomorrow and can't provide upgrade licenses anymore... the hardware units are locked into the configuration they were in when they were bought, forever.
      So they're more readily thrown away when the next thing comes along because they're low spec.
      So it's an environmental issue as well.
