Yes, great stuff Neil, but one point of critique: I don't think it really counts as a John Heisz challenge unless you say "polyurethane construction adhesive" at least once in your build video. 😂. Jk, love both of your channels!
Wow! I love this project. John Heisz’s clamps (these and others) are on my ‘to do’ list. But Neil, you’ve taken them to another level. I can’t recall who said it - Ruskin? Le Corbusier? - but the ultimate in making is to make things that are both beautiful and functional. You nailed that perfect combo. Love it! I particularly like the stacked leather handles. More of that please!
Really interesting touches to John's clamp. I just bought those plans last week, and am studying them prior to building. Always cool to see someone else's 'take' on a project. While I will likely not use your brass touch, I may add accent woods to my chosen primary of Western Ash. Well done! Both you and John should be happy.
Those are gorgeous in so many ways that I'm not even gonna bother trying to list them! They look like something from a century ago when tools were made by the craftsmen who relied upon them!
Sweet! I have over 50 of these and the wedge version of John's clamps that are used daily in a production shop by others and myself. They have proven to be strong and bulletproof. Of course the light weight of wooden ones is their beauty compared to my Bessey clamps. These are really nice, especially the handles. I'm thinking aluminum instead of brass since I have a big supply of scrap pieces. Great build!
There's a good argument for 'functionality above all else'... but then you look at things like old watchmakers' tools, and instantly dream of pieces of art that just happen to also be useful lol! These turned out great Neil!
Three qualities you want your tools to have, in order of priority: you want them to be functional (so you can use them to get things done), ergonomic (so you don’t cause unnecessary wear on your body while getting things done) and beautiful (because beautiful things make us happy).
It's the sandwiched leather handles with the hex/round brass bits holding them, for me. Also the most satisfying part has to be 16:22, when gluing on the second clamp pad, when you can use the clamp itself as a clamp to clamp on the clamp pad. haha
Man I'm a fellow maker and huge fan. Keep em coming friend. I would like to see those leather handles on some nice chisels with mild steel spine and hardened steel cutting edge
Neil, I always love your videos regardless of the topic. You are so creative and entertaining to watch you work. After this video though, you are now hereby christened "Mr. Fancy Clamps". If you teach nothing else to your viewers, it is to get out there and try something. You show where things didn't work as you intended and what you did to fix them. I cannot state how much that helps those of us struggling with our own craft.
Pask! You, sir, inspire me on a daily basis. I love the projects and the vast array of techniques used. It all started with some crazy video I watched about making an airplane propeller. Keep going my man. I love the repurposing value added. Thank you for getting me in my shop more.
10:36 That squeaky brass tapping sound! :) How about making an old fashioned wooden tennis racquet? Perhaps the leather handle idea could be adapted. Aus Open is on the horizon... Or some other wooden sports equipment? skis? a surfboard? a toboggan? brass and timber golf clubs? (With leather handles of course!)... Great video as always mate.
Brass, hardwood and leather combined with excellent skills and performance = WAUW!! And yes, brass absolutely looks best with patina. Brilliant, as always! (Y)
I'm happy to see someone else shares my over the top love of brass. I'll go out of my way to include it wherever I can, even if it's a little detail no one will pay attention to like a washer, some screws, or a dial. Those clamps look great, btw.
These have the flavor of those old rosewood and brass squares. Nothing wrong with having (making) tools with style. I make bows and would love to see those stacked leather handles on a draw knife.
Nice...!!! My suggestion for new tools with the leather handles would be a set of screwdrivers, maybe four, with two flatheads and two Phillips, all of which you make yourself! Merry Christmas!!
The project came out great. I think the handles would be a perfect fit for a hand forged screwdriver or to replace the handle on a fence (bandsaw, table saw, etc.)
been watching your channel for quite a while now and have been in awe of your skills from the start. But it's only since starting my own channel that i've really come to appreciate all of the extra work that goes into your videos so just want to say thank you for doing what you do. Regards, A fellow Queenslander
I love when you use brass and black wattle. It would be great to see you make another ‘precision tool,’ like your low angle jack plane with the same colour contrasts, or adding copper!!!!!
Sweet! Can we refer to you as Mr. Fancy Clamps? Seriously, the brass looks really good. As far as the handles go, I think a Diresta ice pick would look totally cool with the stacked leather. The pieces would be small but the finished product would look great IMO.
Another fantastic project. I've finally given you a long overdue "Subscribe", as your videos are well worth it and I always enjoy your laid back presenting style and humbleness about your awesome skills. Thanks for all your hard work!
Suggestion for those amazing handles is definitely that you forge another chisel and put those handles on it. 🤗 PROPER PASKINS has now became a catchphrase in my life ☺️
I could see the leather screw handle as and awl or marking knife. The clamps look like upscale clamp you would pay top dollar for. Another project that takes a standard idea to the next level.
Love it! Well done, Neil :)
2 in 1 I love both channels
A musician always enjoys praise from the composer.
Yes, great stuff Neil, but one point of critique: I don't think it really counts as a John Heisz challenge unless you say "polyurethane construction adhesive" at least once in your build video. 😂. Jk, love both of your channels!
Thanks John! I really did have fun making them and they are an awesome design! :)
Thanks Neil and John ! I love your clamps !
Wow! I love this project. John Heisz’s clamps (these and others) are on my ‘to do’ list. But Neil, you’ve taken them to another level. I can’t recall who said it - Ruskin? Thanks very much Sebastian - glad you liked them! You should definitely have a go at making them, they're a great clamp. :)

Man well over the top, class Neil.
Beautiful! Another display of your high level of craftsmanship we've all grown accustomed to seeing on your channel!
Thanks you! :)

Great build!
They really are a great design Ed, I should make more but using John's method. :)

Chris from _Clickspring_ would be proud of you for your work with brass and wood!
Excellent result with these Fancy Clamps
Nice combination of woodworking, machining and leatherwork. Brilliant!
This reminds me of tools from far back, the creators combined good looks with good material and functionality.
There's a good argument for 'functionality above all else'... but then you look at things like old watchmakers' tools, and instantly dream of pieces of art that just happen to also be useful lol! These turned out great Neil!

Thanks! Hand forged chisels have been on the list for a long time and I agree, leather handles would look great. :)
Two of my favorite makers in one video... AWESOME JOB!!!
Nothing wrong with using good looking tools, and those are good looking! Love the leather handles.
Thanks David - I'm not sure how much use they'll get but they'll be on show for sure. :)
Very lovely video; the leather handle and the logo inlay are very nice. Thnx Neil!
Definitely over the top, Neil. Beautiful and functional.
Very nicely done, Neil. You have definitely made them your own. Their first use was to clamp the clamp pads in place to cure - that's a nice touch!
It is a truth universally acknowledged that the first task of a homemade clamp is to clamp its own pads as they’re glued in place.
@@ragnkja well I'll be hornswoggled. You really DO learn something new every day.
They built themselves
This was so totally EXTRA and I loved every second of it!!
Touch of brass always classes things up. Looks great! Thanks for sharing!
The handle was a piece of class and ingenuinity. Great Work.
Wow!!!! So good. Always great to see stuff made by the super stars of woodworking.
Wow, I didn't know i'd love fancy clamps tho with everything you make - i love them!!!
Thanks Teresa! :)

John's gonna love these!
Bravo. Nicely done and what a beauty of a result!!
Beautiful job Neil.
As always, gorgeous! Nicely done! Thanks for sharing!
Brass looks very nice. A beautiful tool and work is more pleasant. Thanks.

Beautiful! I would dip the handles in varnish, and put a removable clevis pin at the end of the clamp so the jaws can't slip off.
This channel is my Christmas present! Thanks 'Ol Saint Nick!

This turned out beautiful Mr. Paskin!
Lovely pair of clamps
This is how all clamps should be
The clamp handles are gorgeous!
The lowkey shade on the t-nut was great.
I'm happy to see someone else shares my over the top love of brass. I'll go out of my way to include it wherever I can, even if it's a little detail no one will pay attention to like a washer, some screws, or a dial.
Those clamps look great, btw.
Those brass and leather handles look gooooood 👌👌 Nice job, Neil!
Frank's toolbox with gears buld was awesome too. Can't wait to see the rest!
They look brilliant Neil and so do John Heisz's. Great video mate 👍🏻👍🏻
These were great when John made them, but these look extra strong and sturdy with the brass on them
Thank James - Glad you liked them! I'm sure the wooden ones are just as strong and they'd certainly be more than strong enough. :)
Wouldn't have expected anything less from you sir. You always kick it up a notch or two. Perfect clamps.
Nice looking clamps! I like the brass on them. Good job.
Project turned out nice!
These have the flavor of those old rosewood and brass squares. Nothing wrong with having (making) tools with style. I make bows and would love to see those stacked leather handles on a draw knife.

Great design from John and great execution from you, Neil. They look very fancy - love the brass👏🏼🙏🏻
This was a cool video. My two favorite makers from the Makers Mob!
So happy for you to be reaching 1M subscribers very soon! So well deserved.
I love watching both of your channels!
Absolutely love your version of the clamps. (I'm a big fan of brass and wood combinations.)
Now that's a good looking clamp!
I really like the stacked leather look and feel.
The project came out great. I think the handles would be a perfect fit for a hand forged screwdriver or to replace the handle on a fence (bandsaw, table saw, etc.)
I turned a handle to replace the grimy red one on my table saw fence. I love using it every time!
Thanks and great ideas! :)
As always, that was a terrific build Neil! Love these "challenges" series! 👏👍😉
Glad you enjoyed it Steve! :)
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Just beautiful Neil ... Cheers
I love the leather handles. They’re gorgeous.
Love the Estwing handles!
Heirlooms for future generations! Wonderful build, Neil! Cheers1
Nice work, as always.
Cool Beans! Nice work as always.
I know these are over the top but they came out so great, glad you had an opportunity to be creative with a prepared build.
Really beautiful work, Neil! 😃
Fantastic looking clamps!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great work Neil. Very nice!

beautiful project. Well done Sir.
Very nice. Love the brass.
"...because these nuts are a bit too big, I rounded them off on the belt grinder."
I nearly spat my coffee out 🤣
Oh my, those are magnificent
JH regretted starting this competition)))))
Simple movements, simple stuff.. but with your hands every job looks like - perfect!
You are very talented. Good work 👍👍👍
I really enjoyed seeing your take on these clamps. Well done indeed!
Great work!!! Handle would look great on a set of screwdrivers for sure!!
Great Video!!! A set of screw drivers would be beautiful with those leather and brass handles.
I love the way you made the handles. I bet they are amazing to use!
I made John's clamps and they work great. Love them. You've done an excellent job at making these look dynamite.
Great stuff Neil! Need to make some clamps so this is perfect!
I love when you use brass and black wattle. It would be great to see you make another ‘precision tool,’ like your low angle jack plane with the same colour contrasts, or adding copper!!!!!
Those clamps turned out amazing...would love to have a pair in my shop.
Those handles are a step above the rest. Wow.
Brilliant clamps Neil, Gripping stuff!
Beautiful work, as always!
Beautiful piece of art.
Very nice clamps , liked the way you made them !!
I like the flavour you put on them. The look awesome
Lovely job Neil (as usual!) :)
تعجبني تلك الحلقات التي يلتقي فيها المبدعين أمثالكم
I like those episodes where creators like you meet
I feel like that handle would be pretty nice on an awl. Similar to a diresta ice pick
That's a great idea and I've been thinking of making an awl too. :)
Beautiful clamps! The handles looked great. Maybe you can use them on a pair of locking bit drivers; a short one for close quarters and a longer one.
Sweet! Can we refer to you as Mr. Fancy Clamps? Seriously, the brass looks really good. As far as the handles go, I think a Diresta ice pick would look totally cool with the stacked leather. The pieces would be small but the finished product would look great IMO.

Quality clamps and stylish too.
These look so cool! I would love to see your take on someone else’s project using only hand tools!
Nicely done!!👍
Looks fantastic! I reckon that big empty space on the shaft is a great spot to burn in a "Pask Makes" 👌
I could see the leather screw handle as and awl or marking knife. The clamps look like upscale clamp you would pay top dollar for. Another project that takes a standard idea to the next level.
