James Brolin said when he read this book as part of his audition for the role of George, it had him so on edge that when a pair of pants he had hanging fell on the floor, it startled him so much he literally jumped out of his chair.

When I was 9, my sister told me the Amityville story as well as parts of The Exorcist film. They commingled in my young mind into a cocktail of dread that stayed with me for a very long time. (I love my sister)

So many horrible things said here about Dawn. She was a young woman attending secretarial school. Her close friends all said she was quiet, well mannered and had no boyfriend. She was not wishing to join a boyfriend in Florida because the alleged boyfriend wasn't even in Florida at that time.
There was no evidence of anyone else involved in the shootings, only one Marlin was used. The alleged handgun remains were too old to have been used at the time.
No DNA was found on guns or Dawn - there was NO DNA testing at that time - please do your homework whoever stated that one
Please ask yourself who, other than Ronnie DeFeo has damned his sister, mother and father? How many more times can he change his story?
The good thing is he will never leave prison again that is a relief for the good people in this world: that one is stuck in the past and the past is welcome to him.

That's not a bad idea to be honest with you make it into a miniseries like a far part mini series because part one could be about the murder in the house before the let's move in and then in each part in the me series is where you see the events happen when the lights move in what was going on in the house you know all that sort of stuff and the very very ending of the miniseries you know when George gets possessed by the house goes after his family and everything and they bring them back just show the family getting in the car leaving and then you see Ed and Lorraine Warner pull up with 13 and investigate what happened in the house after the let's move and she can and the actress who plays Lorraine Warner say this is the closest I want to get the hell I have the movie in that way and roll the credits but have it followed the actual book

Why did Mr. George Lutz leave his dog , Harry outside in a dog house in the freezing temperatures? I understand the times, guard dog etc. We know better now. Right? Dogs are pack animals and are not suited for living in harsh freezing weather away from their human family. I am familiar with the horrific deaths, RIP 😔. As well of this Ocean Avenue home's history. @Michelle FaithLove Ikr?!Poor Harry...duh George maybe that's why he wouldn't eat, he was too cold to exert the energy to eat! 😢🐕😢🐕 Even large dogs who come from backgrounds where their job is/was herding or guarding homesteads from wild animals cannot bear extreme temps. If they are actively working, they must have a place like a barn to retreat to. If they are just a family animal, they cannot be in extreme temps at all. My Mastiff almost had a heat stroke because my ex-fiance thought it would be good for her to sit in the sun at 4pm! After 20 minutes I discovered her and screamed when I saw her. She was panting very heavily, moaning, and I had to help her get up. She weighs 145 pounds! She drank 2 full bowls of water immediately and laid down exhausted. I had to keep a cool towel on her. In snow, she runs out only to potty!
Plus, why did George always have Harry on a damn leash?! Asshole.

I was in fourth grade when the movie came out in ‘79. I begged my parents to take me to see it but they refused because “The Exorcist” had terrified my younger sister so badly that they declared a moratorium on any and all horror movies until we were a bit older. We had seen seen a double feature of “Jaws” and “The Exorcist” at our local drive-in the previous summer. A few weeks later, we saw “Logan’s Run” and “Star Wars”. The 70s were awesome!
In the library of my grade school, there was a single copy of “The Amityville Horror”. I probably checked it out at least ten times that year. I was a little Catholic kid, totally obsessed with anything involving demons, witchcraft and the paranormal. After I’d checked out the book for maybe the fourth or fifth time, the school librarian called me over to her desk and said, “You really like that book, don’t you?”.
    I said, “Yes.”
She smiled and asked me if I’d seen the movie. I said that I hadn’t but I really wanted to because it was such a good story. She leaned a little closer and whispered, “Do you think it really happened?”.
Without hesitation, I said, “I sure hope so.”
She laughed so loud that it scared everyone in the library.

I wasn't too much myself into scary movies at the time, now, it doesn't too much bother me but I do tend to watch scary movies at night sometimes. I so enjoyed the 1979 version than the 2005 but the movie and story today is still great and unsolved of the house. Believe It or Not!! This has to be one of the most frightening books ever, and probably one of the most controversial stories .It seems no matter which way you go with it ;the facts don't add up 100% .My mom grew up in the next town from over from Amityville. Although she was only in grade school when the murders happened; she says it was a really big thing. Everyone was talking about it,and people had theories ; even before the whole haunted demon house angle was introduced. Many people in the area felt that DeFeo did not act alone. I have always been fascinated by this story. I've read many books on it including The Night The Defeos Died by Ric Osuna. I have been down that block several times, and have gone past that house. Don't know what it is, but there really is a very strange and unpleasant energy in that general area.
