    The most I can get into emo core is the band Make Me. Hello moon has the best bassline ive ever heard in my life. Another genre that is a hit or miss for me is midwest emo. I like more just emo like Brand New and Movements type emo. Shoegaze emo is amazing also

    It feels similar to Melodic Hardcore. Is it the same?

    • @EMOtiveHXC
      @EMOtiveHXC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good observation!! Emo-core spawned out of hardcore punk, post-hardcore, melodic-hardcore, post-punk, and indie-rock. So of course its going to have similarities to Melodic Hardcore. However, there are elements emo-core uses that separates itself from the rest of hardcore i.e. Loud-Soft dynamics, introspective lyrics, and of course a melodic sound. Though other genres can use "emo elements" the whole thing about emo is that it uses ALL of these elements.

    • @EMOtiveHXC
      @EMOtiveHXC  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pre '85 emo? Thats just gonna be the Rites of Spring demo and maybe live shows of The Hated and Embrace. There is no recorded "emo" music before 1984, anything before that is either alleged dates of live shows or just straight up post-hardcore. Good luck anyways.

    • @garmr214

      @@EMOtiveHXC There are multiple pre NDR Hüsker Dü songs that can be considered Emo. Mission of Burma has some notable songs, the Faith (band by Ian MacKaye's brother, three of their members joined Embrace later on) has one important song called 'Say No More'. These people were actually friends with Picciotto, I think one of the Faith members later joined OLW aswell. And there's Government Issue.

    • @Motsham
      @Motsham ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One is primarily screams...the other includes some clean singing or spoken word.

    • @gwgwgwgwgwgwgwgwgw
      @gwgwgwgwgwgwgwgwgw ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Emocore refers to the first wave of emotional hardcore that came from the DC hardcore scene in the mid 80s, with bands like Rites of Spring, Embrace, the Hated, Moss Icon, etc.
      Midwest emo (I know you didn't ask, but this is related) was the second wave of emo in the 90s, moving away from the hardcore elements and taking more inspiration from indie rock.
      Screamo came about at roughly the same time as midwest emo, and went in the opposite direction. It took emocore and made it faster and more intense, while also taking more inspiration from post-hardcore, mainly with soft/loud dynamics. And, of course, screaming. There are many more modern bands (Bring Me the Horizon, Asking Alexandria, Sleeping with Sirens, etc) who are described as screamo despite having nothing to do with this or any scene of emo, so fans of the genre came up with the term "skramz" to distinguish this original wave of screamo from the false screamo bands. Some bands include pg99, city of caterpillar, saetia, antioch arrows, heroin, orchid, jeromes dream, and many others.
      There's also been a very recent resurgance of screamo/skramz that combines it with elements of midwest emo. Some bands include foxtails, I hate sex, william bonney, merchant ships, and your arms are my cocoon

    • @EMOtiveHXC
      @EMOtiveHXC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Emo-core uses screams less often and doesn't sound as harsh

    • @EMOtiveHXC
      @EMOtiveHXC  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gwgwgwgwgwgwgwgwgw I wouldn't say "false screamo" just Old-School screamo. Just as Snapcase isn't "false hardcore" they're just not old-school hardcore. The "fake-screamo" sound does link back to real screamo bands (Grade and KeepSake are the two main perpetrators) so its kinda wrong to say there is zero ties back
