Western Game development has just gotten too big and heavy for it's own good. Just have to wait until the chair collapses underneath the big names as they sit at the dining table.
If it's going to cost $100, it needs to prove it'll be *_worth_* $100 before players actually open their wallets - the highest end graphics, smooth 60fps, hundreds of hours of vanilla gameplay that'll keep you busy for the majority of a year, as few bugs and glitches as possible. But let's be honest, it'll be a $100 pricetag on a product worth only a quarter of that.
I pretty much gave up o gaming in 2013 when microtransactions and always online really took off. Gaming is a luxury, we don't need it, these companies need to be reminded of that.
Games being 70 dollars (minimum) might've been the only thing keeping AAA studios from going completely under, with the higher priced variants being optional. If they bump it up by an additional 30 greenbacks, I expect them to make LESS overall sales as less people are willing to put down 100 bucks down on anything for a whim, especially now when more people are pinching as many pennies as possible due to a poor economy.
It's hilarious because rockstar are probably the only ones that COUOD get away with it but the greed of some of these studios will make them copy rockstar and then yea they'll fall into their graves haha and I dare them to try 😂😂😂
That's funny, because my rule of thumb is that if the game costs $70, don't buy it on release. No exceptions. Not even if I'm excited as hell for the game (Monster Hunter Wilds looks pretty good. And even so, I won't buy it until there's a significant sale on it).
Maybe, but it is definitely not due to development costs. With technological advancements, ease of distribution and number of gamers around, competent studio can make AAA game, sell it for 40 bucks and still make a good profit. Reasons for 70, or even 100 dollar, games, are not economical. It is either incompetence or greed, or both.
@@terrykrugii5652 _That's funny, because my rule of thumb is that if the game costs $70, don't buy it on release. No exceptions._ My rule is game either being 50% off or below 10 euros. Only exceptions for indie or AA studios, if i think that devs earned it.
If it was some sort of “Special Edition” or “Premium Edition” that gave you additional and exclusive content, then possibly the price could be forgiven, but if it’s just a “Standard Edition” or the core game at that price, then I’ll wait several years until I find a physical copy in the discount bin at a third party retail/resale shop. I’d rather spend $100 on actual necessities like groceries or my health prescriptions.
They can price it whatever they want, they're not getting a dime out of me. Rockstar died with RDR2, now we're just watching their carcass slide along the road, leaving a sticky red trail of burnt out developers and ruined products. Go evil, go broke.
Its even worse if you live outside the West. We already get massive game price increases, so much so that the price of video games is getting beyond what the average person can afford.
New AAA games down here in Brazil are costing 350 BRL. The average monthly household income is around 3.000. Over 10% of what most people make in a month for 1 single game that's likely filled to the brim with micro-transactions.
Last game I bought? Soul Reaver remastered. Haven't gotten around to it yet. What I'm playing? The Quest for Glory series, been on my list for over two decades now I don't think rockstar will be getting my money
I started bauking when the price went to $60... but then again I can remember the days of arcades the prices of old cartridges... affordable on kids allowance from chores. Now thr prices make parents look at it like big purchases... they are missing the price point in favor of the bottom line.
Sad thing is it will probably sell pretty well. Why do i say this? Because EA Sports games sell every year despite the nonsense involved, features disappearing between editions, then being reintroduced, reduced performance etc... (Just see AngryJoe's vids about these issues)... There's already an enormous fanbase they can pillage... Now, GTA 7? That is the question on how well it will sell.
Well good luck trying to get £100 from me, I don't agree with 2K business model or their stance on the games industry so I bid you adieu! Games Industry: We want MORE money for less work and more money for our unqualified Managers & Shareholders, NOPE!!!
I’ve been saying for a while that we’ve been over due for a mass industry crash here in the West since the tail end of the PS3/360 generation. And I don’t mean what we saw in 2009-2011, no, I mean the next big thing like The Great Video Game Crash of 1983-an almost micro depression focused solely on the games industry and mostly affecting consoles and console makers that lasts a couple years and ended by the marketing sorcerers at Nintendo. Basically we need is a collective consumer rejection. Are we going to get that? Probably not.
I would buy a AAA game for $100 if AND ONLY IF it had NO MICROTRANSACTIONS, everything in the game is unlockable without paying for it. Maybe a $40 expansion add on being released once a year, twice at most. But the AAA Videogame Industry won't do that because a single whale 🐳 dropping $1,000 on the cash shop is worth more than 10 $100 purchases. So I simply won't be buying their 💩!
If it’s good, classic GTA, I might buy it. But if there’s the slightest hint of wokeness or pandering or political correctness, then I will become non-buy-nary, and Rockstar will have to learn a very expensive lesson. Ball’s in your court, Rockstar, and I very much hope that you don’t fumble it. Give us what we want, or become completely irrelevant. You have no other choices.
6:03 You got that right. Too many morons hyping up GTA VI purely on how big the budget is... the complete inverse of what the movie industry are coming to terms with; Big Budget =/= Bigger Profit. You try explaining to these simpletons they're trying to offload their crap financing decisions onto us, they'll never wrap their head around it.
Civ 6 kind of did that, too. They locked a bunch of features behind DLCs, then sold DLCs that had *more* content for the content that they had already paywalled.
I’ve never understood the concept of the set price point of games. Why spend $60 on game that only has maybe a week or two worth of gameplay vs a game I can sink into for 6 months straight and still not do everything. I can see gta 6 being justified for $100 if you get years of play out of it like some other releases but never would you spend that money on a single campaign game like a sniper elite middle market game. Also it wouldn’t be as bitter a pill if you got everything up front without surprise transactions and a finished game.
Based on how it took about 5 years for gtaV to not be shit after release, I'll just wait until its actually good and on sale for 80% off then snag the deal. No pre orders, no buying crap when its half baked.
3:00 IIRC, the worst example of this was Overwatch 2, in which at launch the ONLY thing that worked was the cash shop. And the chat system was so buggy that it triggered sales in the cash shop.
Played games my whole life, could never understand why a digital download costs the same as a physical manufactured product sent here from across the world.
Maybe GTA will cost over a 100 but once its out... but whats left that could possible get near that level of hype afterwards. Also gaming is the only medium i know of where the value of the product goes down so quicky after release. Game comes out at 70 in 3 weeks its on a keyseller website for 30 and in 6 months you can find it on the official site for 30-40 and for 20 on a keyseller. name one other entrainment industry where you pay so much more to see it early?

"If you're screwed over for 100 dollars you'll remember that for a while."
I'm fairly sure you've skipped over more than 100 bucks worth of superchats from me, Arch, just saying!
That's a week budget in Ireland for food.
$100 for a reskin of GTA 4/5? Wake me up when Fromsoft announces something.
Does he know?
@alarictheredboi276yearsago4 *something mech related
What? The same game for the 100th goddamn time? How about we stop rewarding mediocrity?
That’s a hard pass from me
Yup, even If then, wait for 75% off on Steam. But that's asking a lot at this point lol
@@nathanscarlett4772yep, i guess that’s the western industry in a nutshell. At this point the future is asian.
Nope, not buying it for 100$. Several reasons:
- DEI Age, no point playing GTA VI if i starts to take itself serious rather then being the sterotypical parody of the madness in the realworld.
- Microtransactions, looking at GTA V you see the testbed they build themself up for microtransactions.
- 100$ Too much money
I will just wait for a discount
If this goes through and it's a success,
Every other company will try to do it.
And most of them will fail because of the price increase without increase in quality.
And even more companies will go down.
you say that like it's a bad thing
Western Game development has just gotten too big and heavy for it's own good.
Just have to wait until the chair collapses underneath the big names as they sit at the dining table.
That's the best joke I've heard all day, $100 for a video game...wait, they're serious?
If it's going to cost $100, it needs to prove it'll be *_worth_* $100 before players actually open their wallets - the highest end graphics, smooth 60fps, hundreds of hours of vanilla gameplay that'll keep you busy for the majority of a year, as few bugs and glitches as possible.
But let's be honest, it'll be a $100 pricetag on a product worth only a quarter of that.
Ill accept it for $100...as in them paying me $100 to play it... Per hour, installation time included.
And with interest if game is unsatisfactory. And full legal impunity to beat those responsible for lousy quality.
They could always tighten their budgets by getting rid of all the DEi hires and hire based solely on merit.
No exceptions._
My rule is game either being 50% off or below 10 euros.
Sure! Here's a $100 bill... of monopoly money.
More folks are going to move to the high seas. And that's a good thing.
Looking at Rockstar, GTA 6 is gonna be 100$ for a 100hour lesson in why Orange man is ... le bad.
No game is worth $100+. Ever.
The first bad signs of GTA 6
I thought that was the reveal trailer.
@vadandrumist1670 That's why I said "bad *signs* " if were merely one red flag. There would be less cause for concern.
FIRST? The funders and writers left, its all woke now and its gonna be multiplayer focused....and they ban mods.
Haven't paid attention, eh?
Last game I bought?
Soul Reaver remastered. Haven't gotten around to it yet. What I'm playing? The Quest for Glory series, been on my list for over two decades now
I don't think rockstar will be getting my money
I paid 100 $ for japanese chrono trigger import in like 1995.
I quite enjoy the sight of those companies disassembling this particular jenga tower. Seems like Ubisoft will be the first to crash out of the game.
Yea no chance im paying that, I'll be giving it a miss.
I cannot afford a 100.
Geus its back to sailing the seven seas for me.
Prove to me its' worth. Then I will consider visiting the Bay to not give you money anyway.
Eu4 ? Sir, let us look at the elephant in the room that is the train simulator ...
Robbie rotten: do what you want cause a pirate is free you are a pirate
Well good luck trying to get £100 from me, I don't agree with 2K business model or their stance on the games industry so I bid you adieu!
Games Industry: We want MORE money for less work and more money for our unqualified Managers & Shareholders, NOPE!!!
Unless it's COMPLETELY DEI FREE in not even bother pirating it...
But what if I refuse to pay?
IMPOSSIBIRUUUU!!!
Well don't crow *too* much, you predicted $150
Yes rockstar please do it cause i guarantee it's not gonna outsell gta V
i only buy games when there 20$ max. no game is worth 100$.
Me too. Plus fully patched with all content months later. So you get the best version
The old Secret of Monkey Island quote still holds strong.
Agreed haha alot of content was cut but oh people think its ok 8t will be added to online ha ha
Paradox gets away with selling its games in pieces that total hundreds of dollars.
They're trying to eliminate piracy...............by pricing most of their customers out of the market?!
Very Modern(TM) logic.
That'll be the end of AAA devs. Also, GTA 6 will be beautiful but shallow. This will be the end of a very arrogant era.
Based on how it took about 5 years for gtaV to not be shit after release, I'll just wait until its actually good and on sale for 80% off then snag the deal. No pre orders, no buying crap when its half baked.
So the game goes from being non-buy-nary to being doubly so.
It can cost whatever. I'm pretty sure I don't want it regardless of price. Sweet Baby Inc kiss of death is a thing.
Can wait, can look how the Game is, and can than buy a fixed Game for a lower Price.
And after that it'll be 200. Stay diligent against corporate greed. It won't improve anything either anyways
Other devs will try this, not understanding that GTA is one of the few games that might get away with this.
I already refuse to buy games at $70, $100 is just straight up clown shoes.
100? Nah, I'll Yo-oh-oh it unless it blows 5 and RDR2 out of the water
100$? that game probably wont worth 10$
Sigmar forbids this!
Over the years the cost will drop down gradually… so… I don’t think people are going to buy this at full price… Majority of people anyway.
GTA7 in 2035: $175 and a pint of blood
And a kidney
They're digging too greedily and too deep, but instead of encountering a balrog, they'll find that the mines are empty except for a sign saying "gone to play indie games!"
