My Itchy Boots Africa tube scarf arrived yesterday. I put it on, pulled the helmet on over it .. sat on the bike and out of nowhere, found myself saying, "Let's go!" Looked at myself in the mirror and surprised to see brown eyes looking back. Oh well.... vicariously will have to do. Stay safe Noraly and thank you for bringing such cheer and joy to +807,000 of us!
If anyone is so brave to go to such remote places alone and with such joy, I don't know of them. Plus, her video work, sound, narration, and musical additions are the best I've seen to go with where she is. Very relaxing. She is a fantastic person.
Seeing you pulling the "thousands" of thorns out of the tires with a Zen state of patience and endurance reminded me of the times in life I've confronted similar kinds of frustratingly repetitive mundane tasks, and often ones that I could have avoided. It's a reality that occasionally happens in the things we do. I enjoyed seeing the inclusion of this in your video and empathized with what you had to do, and I appreciated your cheer and good nature in tacking the thorny problem.
Noraly, I just love how happy you are ALL of the time! You never seem to stop smiling and laughing, no matter what the situation! I think you have 100% of what it takes to enjoy these adventures, and that is a positive attitude and a happy demeanor! Thanks for sharing your travels with us and stay safe!
At 21.02 ostriches crossing road, Noraly: "Beautiful birds". Ostrich and beautiful, two words that are rarely used together. But for Noraly, being positive is almost a trade mark, so everything becomes beautiful, fantastic and awesome. Wonderful.
In Zimbabwe, stopping at the roadside, even on a main road to drop off or pick up passengers is like a national pastime. Absolutely adore your videos and love Namibia. Hope to travel there again one day soon.
What an adventurer! There you are, in the middle of Africa, no roads to be seen, exploring the remains of an elephant. And giving us views that no one ever has before. Truly amazing Noraly!
In Texas we call those thorns "Goat Heads". I'm not sure if it is your infectious laugh, beautiful smile, or the interesting places, but we love your videos.
All things considered, the "not too expensive second hand" Honda 250 has gone wherever you decided to go, some of it pretty rough countryside, reliably and without complaining. Seems to have been a very good choice.
The further north that anyone travels in Namibia, the greener and more populated it becomes. But it is still sparsely populated compared with most of the rest of the world. I worked there on and off over several years, enjoying the relative lushness along the banks of the Cubango and Cuito Rivers, which are part of the border between Namibia and Angola.
There is an AMAZING camp in the Caprivi strip (western side) called Ngepi Camp. It’s in the Okavango river and has the most amazing cage pool. You should go stay there! It’s a great place with a lot of history in the area.
I've only been a fan of this channel for a week and I'm completely hooked: Production values through the roof; best use of steady cams ever; awesome navigation skills, and those gorgeous drone shots are just stunning. The fact that we have an articulate and personable host in Noraly is just icing on a brilliant cake.
I don't know how I got the recommendation for your channel but it's been really a treat. Everything about you, your attitude, your commentary, your videos is just fascinating. I'm a lover of empty deserted wildernesses. And you have made it possible for me to wander in such places. All the best wishes, prayers and regards for you.

Those little devils were a nightmare of my childhood growing up in the village. Luckily I had an uncle who made us sandals with wheel tyres, they did help a lot.
Back in the 60's hippies made that kind of sandals they called them JCWW's Jesus Christ Water Walkers. Guaranteed for 50,000 miles that twice around the world.
Not to over share but we also learnt how to make tubeless tyres for our BMXs using using plastic bags and old cloths. Or just a knot around the puncture area, not a comfy ride but it will get you from home to school and back. Good times indeed lol
Gosh what a journey again. And again, I'm extremely impressed how calm you manage everything. Maximum respect and thanks for sharing your adventures. Greetings from Germany
No problem with elephants and lions, no problem with bumpy or sandy road, no problem with thorns in her tyres.....but the city is too big and busy! I love your philosophy Noraly!! Ciao, Edoardo
I've been in a similar experience pulling thorns from motorcycle tyres after a long day off road. I was in camp, tweezers in hand near a crackling fire grilling meat and drinking beer the Jeep guys brought along. I love your adventures, stay safe!
The desolation is stark, but you just motor on like it was just another day at the office! Most people would turn around and head for home, but you just go on and on! Amazing and super entertaining, so much fun to watch! Reminds me of times when I had to stop in the middle of nowhere and fix my own bike. Those times are super intense it's kind of do or die, but you are still having fun in the process! There is nothing like a motorcycle ride in the bush! And we get to see how the other half lives.
Noraly never seems stressed even when she's lost in the desert and having bike issues. I'd be playing all the worst case scenarios through my head. She just checks out some elephant skulls and moves on
08:07 When you are following the tyre tracks of the guy who was lost before you. 12:20 those are Devil Thorns or 'dubbeltjies' and they grow throughout the arid regions of Southern Africa. The spines aren't long enough to get through a motorbike tyre, but they go straight through a bicycle tyre and tube. We used to run around barefoot in the veld as kids and would sometimes get them in our feet. THAT HURTS!
In the Southern US we call them sand spurs and sand burs. In the Bad Lands of Oklahoma they have a version locally called goat head stickers as they are shaped oddly like a goat’s head with two large sharp points. Loved this video.
It just gets better and better. Loving the isolation. Namibia looks like it’s the place for me, wide open spaces, interesting animals no people and a new hobby of tyre thorn picking. I never realised just how un populated some parts of the world are. Great vid again looking forward to the next Thank you.😃
As kids we use to walk bare feet in the feild and you step in those thorns called "duiweltjies" or "duweltjies" in afrikaans. It was pure hell! They also caused a lot of bicycle tyre punctures.
Thorns called, In socal usa, Goat heads. Bicyclists worst nightmare. Got 5 flats one 100deg f day on a 30mi ride. Repair "Gel" in first tubes did not last long. Three spare tubes and walking last 1/4mi got me home. They are truly the Devils spawn. I am truly impressed by those tires though, on n off road especially in sand !!
One woman riding on her bike alone, mygoodness my heart was pounding watching you all alone riding to an ending quiet unknown rough roads ! Dear Noraly may the good gods of all..will keep you safe on your many more exciting, thrilling journeys to come tc 💕 🤗😍
Those thorn/stickers look just like goatheads. They are the bane of bicycle riders in the american southwest, they are shed by a plant that is endemic there and spreading to other areas. One of them will puncture a tire and in the season I have found more than twenty in each tire. It’s enough to make you give up bicycle riding. The only solution will be solid tires that can’t puncture. I assumed the plant that produced them was native, but the southwest desert is full of invasive species and it looks like the goathead plant may come from Africa because those were goatheads or I’ve never seen them. It takes tweezers to pull out the broken ones, this really brings back memories.
I really enjoyed your choice of music in this episode! Very calming, fits the mood and scene nicely! As always, the drone footage is spectacular! Ride safe Noraly!
I love the early morning video in the desert. The desert color and appearance of the landforms are so responsive to the angle of the sun. Once again, thank you for making and sharing this video. Hello and peace to everyone from the U.S.

@@ngj874 In Itchy's home land there is hawthorn which has spikes 1 inch long and rock hard. They puncture tyres that have anti puncture belts, as if going through sliced bread....
@@Pozi_Drive Yeah same here in Blighty, re `thorn` ,as the shrub/tree is colloquially named. I`ve done some hawthorn hedging by hand this week, removing eight foot off the top and some thorns were over 6" long. I remember thinking that if I trip and fall on one of those, it`d be like being daggered. One section I did was an evergreen blackthorn-esque plant that is even worse. Don`t want any of those in my Enduro tyres....again.
it's amazing how You gave a hope, to see the bright side of all among senteint beings, colours love, even in the dried desert lands to the mountains they put a smile on my face how beautiful they are in hard unsustainable lives, thank to you noraly.
My Partner and I picked up some of those thorns while out cycling one day. My partner's tyres went down instantly. I was lucky enough to just make it the 10kms to home to get the car and bike carrier. No it wasn't in the middle of a desert, so hardly worthy of a mention. P.
GOATHEADS! I know you well (puncturevine). ....when you walk through a patch of goatheads and all the thorn seeds fill up the bottom of your shoes. If you take them out, best to keep them in one pile and bury. The dried thorns can be viable for years and will sprout new vines. Nasty little things. And the tip of the thorn can break off in your skin. Enough about thorns....Another wonderful adventure today. Thanks!
Look an elephant puzzle...I know I can put him back together but will he fit on my bike? Great video, as always Noraly! What a place to explore...thorns and all. Let’s go!🏍🇺🇸
Yes, ‘goat heads’ in Arizona. Caused me a puncture the first time I rode in the open desert. Not fun. Also very bad for my poor doggo’s paws. Make sure you don’t track them in on your boots, they’re murder on bare feet. Safe travel!
You said something in a latest video that summed up 'the whole experience'...and i quote you: 'I just want to ride.' That just said it all...me too..don't we love it...we're on an adventure!
Kudos to you Noraly! I really appreciate your adventurous spirit in the wild bushwhacking you do, thanks for the off road vistas. We call those thorns “goat heads” in California, gnarly! 🙏🏽❤️🥳 Dugo
Blijft geweldig hoe je de gehele aarde aan het ontdekken bent. Wij genieten vanuit Nederland met je mee;) Keep safe en houdt de onderkant naar beneden!
Loving seeing your travels. Brings back many memories of my 6 weeks over there in a landrover in 1996. We actually drove that river bed road before turning east and entering Etosha game reserve by the west gate at Otjovasandu [we had special permits as the western half of the reserve was closed to tourists at that time]. Wish I was still young enough to contemplate another such trip.
"Every now and then, you just pick up a thousand thorns." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😍 ~Noraly? You're a riot Gf! Loved the ride, the scenery, the music, the drone footage... EVERYTHING. Thank you so much for you! The vastness is incredible as is your bravado in exploring it all. You hug that Savannah because she's doing a great job too! 😂 ~~God bless and as always, much love and prayers for you from The Great Smokies area of The USA. Ride on girl, ride on! 👋🤠👍💛
Those thorns are called goatheads in the southwestern area of Idaho. I can't believe you didn't stick yourself pulling them out! They will flatten a bike tire quickly but car/motocycle tires, not so quickly. Adventure just means getting stuff stuck in your tires every so often. Soon I will be caught up on all of your old vids. What adventures you've been on. Happy riding!
I have puncture vine on my property. It's not possible to walk barefoot in my yard, or ride a bicycle. The thorns get stuck in the soles of my boots and I end up tracking some in the house, which I occasionally step on with my bare feet.
I am so glad you are here to help us explore the world. I proselytize for you at every opportunity. Waiting for my stickers and Africa Buff so everyone will know that I too have Itchy Boots!
i rode with a mountain bike group in Kuwait's deserts for 25 years. We had the same thorns there. We insisted that newcomers fitted anti-puncture stripes between their inner tubes and tyres and filled the tubes with slime sealant. We usually had to help the newcomers do that. You would literally pick up hundreds of thorns but the tyre kept enough air pressure to keep going. Some newcomers were obstinate and didn't take the puncture strip and slime advice and there would be harsh words said as the group waited in up to 50 degree C heat while we loaned them our spare inner tubes and changed the tubes for them. Every year or less the inner tubes would finally give out and be thrown away and you could see the beads of dried slime where the thorns had penetrated. I always carried 2 spare pre-slimed inner tubes but never used them myself, just loaned them to others during rides.
Yes, exactly! I have made the same recommendation for tyre sealant. We actually used it on our old VW bus when we did Namibia. Never had a single flat tyre... But got stuck in sand plenty! And got ourselves into a bit of a spot after a guinea fowl flew across the road and made a rather large dent just below the windscreen... 4 days later we did some hasty panel beating when we were caught in flood rains in the middle of nowhere and the wiper actuator got stuck on the dent. 🤣 ...such good memories. 😬
"@John Lewinton I rode with a mountain bike group in Kuwait's deserts for 25 years." Nice to see you made it out ;) Dunno what I did wrong, but to one of my mountain bikes I fitted new tyres with slime tubes and they`re both flat and I`ve not even ridden it yet. Yes I did inflate them. And yet I got a puncture while in Haarlem on my Guzzi in `81 and bunged a load of slime in and it worked well until I fixed it properly.
I wish I could go on a 25year bike ride. 😂😂 I spent time in Kuwait in the Army. The desert is both beautiful and harsh. Sand/dust storms were some of the worst I’ve experienced and yet the sunsets were some of the most spectacular I’ve ever seen.
Good luck with removing a thousand thorns from your tyres. You stay calm and relaxed where most of us would scare out. Thanks for showing us the world, Günter from Nürnberg/Germany
We have those things here in West Texas too. We call them "goat heads." Not good for bare feet or bicycle tires, not as bad for dirt bike tires probably.
Wouldn’t stress with the devil thorns. Those mt07 tires still have thick tread and the thorns will wear down as you ride. Had plenty of them in thinner softer tires.
There are thorn apple trees near me and those thorns will puncher a truck tire. It's good that you are being safe and taking care of your tires. Another great video Noraly.
Oh no! Torritos!!! We had those little buggers where we lived in Mexico. We needed to use a product called 'Slime' (ITW Global Tire Repair manufacturing) to keep our tires from loosing air. About 10-12 oz per tire will keep them from leaking from so many small punctures. Stunning video! Best wishes! Animo!
Oh Noraly , I know you have your GPS but you are so brave going off the road and exploring when there is absolutely nothing and no-one around. I love it!
i have milions of thorns at my yard, it is tribulus basicaly..ive never have flat tire at my Tenere xt660z or my smaller bike Kymco spike 125.. But i have lots of flat tires at my bicycles!!! cheers from Greece!!!
Thx Kosatas. The farmers in the Boland (RSA) told me that the taxi's also get flat tire from the Duwweltjies (Tribulus terrestris). When the taxi is on the farm the vehicle do a 180* turns in a farm road. The wheels go of the road. The some of the Duwweltjies get stuck in the side-walls the tire and u have a slow puncher...
Devil's thorns are truly awful! Looks like you're following animal tracks, not a road 🙈 Much to the envy of us off-roaders 😉🥰 Btw, elephants are known to scatter the bones of those who died in their herds. Supposedly their burial rites. 🐘💚🐘
Thanks for sharing that. I was thinking that predators may be close by because who else would have scattered the bones? I guess scavengers could have as well, but never thought the elephants themselves would do that. How interesting. 🤓👍

Let’s go!🏍🇺🇸
"Ok, let's leave the elephants in peace..." Perfect. Always something utterly new when riding with Noraly...
Looks like Nevada desert and sage brush. “Lost my track. Oh well, make my own!”
The more I watch your videos, I am got motivated and amazed ....
Much love to you Norally ... No one can be bored watching you.... 💝💝💝💝💝💝
Yes, ‘goat heads’ in Arizona. Caused me a puncture the first time I rode in the open desert. Not fun. Also very bad for my poor doggo’s paws. Make sure you don’t track them in on your boots, they’re murder on bare feet. Safe travel!
Love the way the sun rising climbs down the hills/mountains
Noraly: "... That's the plan,... Let's go!?"
Everyone : "Absolutely!"
🙏🏽❤️🥳 Dugo
Your exploration, in many ways, is our exploration, for we are all explorers in life.. So thank you for sharing such fascinating moments.
I hope you enjoy making the video as much as I watching the video.
for those who were wondering @ 2:53 zendmast = cell (phone) tower (sorry Noraly could not help myself to help out).
Great footage again!
Good morning Itchy Boots, and welcome back to the InterWebs!
Tough going on the most important part of your journey, Noraly love ♥️ you
Noraly, I particularly like your choice of music for this episode.
Thank you!
Me too suited the video perfectly
Yes, great choice of music! Brilliant…
Population in this country very less but nature is so beautiful there desert and desert every where nice video Noraly 👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍🙂🙏
We call those thorns "duwweltjies!" :-)
"Every now and then, you just pick up a thousand thorns." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😍
~Noraly? You're a riot Gf! Loved the ride, the scenery, the music, the drone footage... EVERYTHING. Thank you so much for you! The vastness is incredible as is your bravado in exploring it all. You hug that Savannah because she's doing a great job too! 😂
~~God bless and as always, much love and prayers for you from The Great Smokies area of The USA. Ride on girl, ride on! 👋🤠👍💛
Himba country! Went for dinner there a long time ago. My wife asked if they had veggies. Yes they said: Chicken.
I'm awe-struck! You must be stark raving mad- in the best possible way, of course.
Thorny things are duwweltjies in afrikaans! 😊🇿🇦♥️
Dave Hodges of The Common Sense Show gave u a huge compliment!
That sounds much too nice for these stingy buzzers.
...such good memories. 😬
John, you have a rich experience bro. Great story there, you're a legend

Nice to see you made it out ;)
Dunno what I did wrong, but to one of my mountain bikes I fitted new tyres with slime tubes and they`re both flat and I`ve not even ridden it yet.
Goat heads must be a universal name for these nasties. They were hard on my barefoot childhood in Calif.
Thx. So U also have the bastard too. Roadbikes have a problem with the Bastards too. "Goat Heads" & "Duwweltjies" ....mmm.
We have them here in NM. They'll pierce through flip flops and stab you in the foot. Nasty little buggers.
Someone accidentally brought them to the US from Africa. Curse on man-kind
Fascinating as always. What a magical country. Thanks again Noraly, glad you're riding a super reliable bike.
Another great video Noraly.
we call those goat heads here in New Mexico USA. Bad memories and many flat tires.
We have those same goat head thorns in Texas as well. Always hated those things!
Oh no!
Animo!
22:19 - nostalgic memory for me to see a Herero woman .... and the devil thorns!
"Then see what happens next". THAT is my favorite way to travel and you do it well. Have fun, stay safe.
Devil's thorns are truly awful! Looks like you're following animal tracks, not a road 🙈 Much to the envy of us off-roaders 😉🥰
Btw, elephants are known to scatter the bones of those who died in their herds. Supposedly their burial rites. 🐘💚🐘
In Colorado they're called "Goat Heads"...they eat bicycles, and the right one can take out any tire.
@@bigcity2085 eye concur fellow coloradan!
✌
Thanks for sharing that. I was thinking that predators may be close by because who else would have scattered the bones? I guess scavengers could have as well, but never thought the elephants themselves would do that. How interesting. 🤓👍
Wow! All alone in the African wilderness archiving your trek! Very impressive! Great drone footage!! Thank you!! 👍🏼🙏
