#Kleitoria, also known by its older name #Mazeika, is a #village in the Prefecture of Achaia. It has 650 permanent #residents, while it is built amphitheatrically at an altitude of 535 meters, in the middle of the plain of "Katsana" or "Mazeikos", at the point where the Kleitoras river flows into the Aroani, and is surrounded by Mount #Helmos. It lies 200 km from #Athens , via the Nestani - #Levidi Vlaherna road, 25 kilometers from #Kalavrita, 98 kilometers from #Patras, and 60 kilometers from #Tripoli.
Here was located Kleitor, an ancient #Arcadian city-state known for its #copper mines.
Before the revolution of 1821, the residents of the nearby village of Mazi had their #gardens and fields in the area, some also had huts, which is why the area was called "Mazaeika Kalyvia". Very quickly the village became an important commercial center of the area and a transport hub node. During the #German occupation and on December 14, 1943, the German Nazi army looted and burned the largest part of the village as part of "Operation Kalavryta".
Nowadays, Kleitoria is highly developed and has many #attractions and historical #monuments that are worth admiring.
The Holy #Church of Agios Dimitrios of Kleitoria stands out.
The central #square of Kleitoria, or #National Resistance Square, where the #Folklore #Museum is located.
In the village you will find traditional #taverns famous for their delicious food and several #guesthouses.
Nearby, lie the Bouloubassi #waterfalls and the Kalavryta #Zoo.
To the south of Kleitoria you can explore the village of #Tropaia and the artificial lake of #Ladon.
Heading north we reach the #Monastery of Agia Lavra. And the lakes cave.
Then we arrive to the beautiful Kalyvryta town and the #Ski Center.
With the cog railway we can visit #Zachlorou and the #Mega Spileo, an impressive Monastery.
Finally, in the northeast is located the village of #Planetero. And then Ancient #Feneos with the famous lake #Doxa.
