Thank you for the very concise Dhamma Talk. Always very helpful. A question concerning good governance. You said one should not take it literally as one can cherry pick. You cite another "socialist" sutta to make your point. Two problems I have with your comment: First, where does "don't take it literally" begin/end? Second, I don't think the second Sutta you mention in this context can be taken as a pointer to socialist ideas. To lend money to people and/or give land to them is the opposite of leftist ideas which want to control individual freedom under a state rule. Buddhism has helped me a lot to see the great value of tradition not only for my personal wellbeing but as well for the wellbeing of whole societies. Therefore I think it would be good to take the advice in the Parinibbana Sutta literally, and I wish my country would follow those seven rules wholeheartedly. If it did I am very sure we would not have most of the problems our society has been suffering for the past centuries. After all: That's what the Buddha said to keep a society prosperous ...
The Kuru destroyed the imperial Yadava in the Kurukshetra war 1500-1200 bc, under the Babylonians and broke the spine of the Indians when they replaced the superior theology of Sanatan religion with Semitic Hinduism, practicing ULU culture of the Semites.
