Preparing Rock Samples for Analysis in the Search for Critical Minerals

  • Tristan Childress, with his field work in the Cornudas Mountains in West Texas complete, prepares the hundreds of samples the he collected in the field for analysis. For most of the analyses he needs to perform, the process begins by cutting the samples into small pieces called "billets." Once the samples are cut, they can be packaged and shipped to specialized labs for certain types of analyses or further prepared for use in the Bureau of Economic Geology's in-house labs.

    Start asking people around the world to send you rock samples with shipping so that you can map out certain locations with a promising area to find more promising samples at. More specifically try to find people around a location with a already estimated geological position with possible deposits.
